The most common problems for which patients present to the Emergency Department are neurological disorders, including stroke, syncope, back pain and headache.
Various kinds of masks obscure our view of our galaxy, the Milky Way, as well as of other galaxies. Masks of interstellar dust affect our measurements within galaxies, on scales ranging from individual supernovae to the galaxies themselves. The ¿mass mask¿ (our inability to image mass rather than light) gives astronomers a very incomplete picture of the size and structure of galaxies themselves, because we cannot image the dark matter which provides most of the galactic mass. Another mass is the ¿dynamical mask¿: as galaxies form, much dynamical information is lost in the birthing process. A new thrust in research is to retrieve such information by means of chemical tagging. About 50 astronomers flew into Namibia in April 2010, to celebrate the 70th birthday of Professor K.C. Freeman, Fellow of the Royal Society. At age 70, Freeman, a father of dark matter in galaxies, continues to be one of planet¿s most highly cited astronomers. The current volume affords readers a unique perspective on galaxies by probing the thoughts of some of the greatest astronomers of our age. Contributions focus on galaxies from within our Local Group to those in our high redshift Universe. Approximately 40 in-depth review and contributed papers are contained in the volume, each written by an expert in the field. Two unusual features of the current volume include the ¿Star Country¿ of the San people of southern Africa as well as the introduction into astronomy of ¿The Treachery of Images¿ by the Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte. ¿Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see¿, said Magritte. These words resonate the theme of the current volume ¿Galaxies and their Masks¿, which is written at a level to be appreciated by both specialist and doctoral student alike.
Traumatic Brain Injury: A Clinician's Guide to Diagnosis, Management, and Rehabilitation is a concise guide designed for neurologists, primary care, and sports physicians and other medical providers, psychologists and neuropsychologists, and athletic trainers who may evaluate and care for patients with TBI.
Pharmaceutical Perspectives of Cancer Therapeutics covers a wide variety of therapeutic approaches including gene therapy, immunological therapy;
A comprehensive approach to the basic science behind the development of this ground-breaking technique and its introduction into clinical practice, the book discusses the entire spectrum of currently available reversible treatments, the emerging irreversible applications, and their impact on patient care.
Dating Neurological Injury: A Forensic Guide for Radiologists, Other Expert Medical Witnesses, and Attorneys presents a unique way to approach the dating of neurological injury as imaged by modern computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) and ultrasound (US).
Chrisler The Development of Gender Studies in Psychology Studies of sex differences are as old as the ?eld of psychology, and they have been conducted in every sub?eld of the discipline. First, social psychological studies of person perception show that sex is especially salient in social groups.
The goal of this book is to provide a general overview of the rapidly developing field of novel scanning probe microscopy (SPM) techniques for characterization of a wide range of functional materials, including complex oxides, biopolymers, and semiconductors.

Most researchers agree that biological confocal microscopy was jump-started by the confocal design first published by White and Amos in 1985 in the Journal of Cell Biology.
This authoritative book provides state-of-the-art practices and new developments in the imaging of cartilage, associated pathologies, and repair procedures.
This is the first comprehensive text-atlas that shows how to use ultrasound technology and nerve stimulation techniques to guide regional blockade in children.
This volume provides a unique and valuable contribution to our understanding of the impact of stressful life events and mass trauma on the person, the culture and society in the course of the life span.
A comprehensive book on isoprenoids does not exist. Isoprenoid Synthesis in Plants and Microorganisms: New Concepts and Experimental Approaches fills this gap by presenting the latest and the most applicable information on isoprenoids.
Geochemical kinetics as a topic is now of importance to a wide range of geochemists in academia, industry, and government, and all geochemists need a rudimentary knowledge of the field. This book summarizes the fundamentals of geochemical kinetics with examples drawn especially from mineral dissolution and precipitation.
In the second part, Giulio Magli uses the elements presented in the tour to show that the fundamental idea which led to the construction of the astronomically-related giant monuments was the foundation of power, a foundation which was exploited by 'replicating' the sky.
Like the other volumes in the series, this volume presents information on the latest scientific information in applied plant breeding using the current advances in the field, from an efficient use of genetic resources to the impact of biotechnology in plant breeding.
In Vitro Fertilization: A Comprehensive Guide represents the next frontier in the integrated clinical and laboratory practice of ART. This comprehensive book covers all aspects of IVF and includes special sections on oocyte and embryo donation as well as gestational carriers, making it ideal for practicing clinicians.
An invaluable resource for all clinicians, allied health personnel, and administrators concerned with the mental health needs of service members and veterans, Military and Veteran Mental Health: A Comprehensive Guide is a gold-standard addition to the literature on military healthcare.
The third edition of the Handbook incorporates advances across the discipline, including new developmental models of depression, ADHD, anxiety, suicide and OCD. New and updated chapters cover refinements in assessment methods and report on current research.
Addressing issues in our cognitive and linguistic past, this book places intelligence in an evolutionary/cultural framework, exploring differences between humans and other primates, and human thinking about its own intelligence. The works of thinkers from Plato to Darwin, Binet to Piaget, illustrate major events in the evolution of theories.
This book explores juvenile borderline personality disorder (BPD) through a biopsychosocial model. It addresses wide-ranging behaviors that disrupt the lives of children and adolescents with BPD as well as details the various treatment options.

Innovations in HIV Prevention Research and Practice through Community Engagement
This book provides an introduction to the topic of transcendental numbers for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. While the first part of the book focuses on introducing key concepts, the second part presents more complex material, including applications of Baker's theorem, Schanuel's conjecture, and Schneider's theorem.
Schizophrenia: Recent Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment is a major addition to the literature, offering practical, comprehensive coverage of diagnosis and treatment options, genetic issues, neuroimaging, long-term management of schizophrenia, and future directions and predictions of how clinical care of schizophrenia will change.
