The proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on Artificial Heart and Assist Devices (July 30-31, Tokyo, Japan). With contributions by numerous experts
In this book the authors describe how they reproduced the redox functions of biocatalysts artificially. It includes the introduction and discussion of synthetic reactions via electron transfer, hybrid ¿-conjugated systems, and biorganometallic conjugates as novel redox systems. The work was conducted in pioneering fields based on redox systems, in synthetic organic chemistry, synthetic materials chemistry, and bioorganometallic chemistry. The step-by-step process is illustrated by the three major parts of the book: redox reactions (selective synthetic methods using metal-induced redox reactions), redox systems (design and redox function of conjugated complexes with polyanilines or quinonediimines and molecular bowl sumanene), and design of bioorganometallic conjugates to induce chirality-organized structures (bio-related structurally controlled systems). This systematic and up-to-date description will be of special interest to graduate students who are meeting the new challenges of chemistry, as well as to post-doctoral researchers and other practicing chemists in both academic and industrial settings.
This book presents an overview of material-specific factors that influence Tc and give rise to diverse Tc values for copper oxides and iron-based high- Tc superconductors on the basis of more than 25 years of experimental data, to most of which the author has made important contributions.
This book is the first one that brings together recent results on the harmonic analysis of exponential solvable Lie groups. As well, various related topics are presented to motivate young researchers. The orbit method invented by Kirillov is applied to study basic problems in the analysis on exponential solvable Lie groups.
Geometrization and symmetries are meant in their widest sense, i.e., representation theory, algebraic geometry, infinite-dimensional Lie algebras and groups, superalgebras and supergroups, groups and quantum groups, noncommutative geometry, symmetries of linear and nonlinear PDE, special functions, and others.
Financial authorities face a number of key challenges, including maintaining financial stability; ensuring long-term finance for stable economic growth; promoting greater access to financial services for both households and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); and fostering a competitive financial industry. Access to finance for SMEs is particularly important, given their large shares in economic activity and employment in Asian economies. Striking the appropriate balance in achieving these objectives through financial supervision and regulation is an important policy issue for financial regulators. This book is the record of a joint conference in 2014 organized by the Asian Development Bank Institute; Financial Services Agency, Japan; and International Monetary Fund Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific on the topic of financial system stability, regulation, and financial inclusion. Participants included noted scholars, policymakers, and financial industrial participants from Asia. ADB InstituteThe ADB Institute, located in Tokyo, is the think tank of the Asian Development Bank. Its mission is to identify effective development strategies and improve development management in ADB¿s developing member countries. Financial Services Agency, JapanThe Financial Services Agency, Japan is responsible for ensuring the stability of Japan¿s financial system, the protection of depositors, insurance policyholders and securities investors, and smooth finance through such measures as planning and policymaking. International Monetary Fund Regional Office for Asia and the PacificThe International Monetary Fund Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific contributes to economic surveillance and research, leads the IMF¿s involvement in regional cooperation, manages regional capacity building programs, and promotes the understanding and two-way dialogue of the IMF in the region.
This book focuses on the latest reactor concepts, single pass core and experimental findings in thermal hydraulics, materials, corrosion, and water chemistry. It highlights research on supercritical-pressure light water cooled reactors (SCWRs), one of the Generation IV reactors that are studied around the world. This book includes cladding material development and experimental findings on heat transfer, corrosion and water chemistry. The work presented here will help readers to understand the fundamental elements of reactor design and analysis methods, thermal hydraulics, materials and water chemistry of supercritical water used as a coolant in nuclear power reactors. It will also help readers to broaden their understanding of fundamental elements of light water cooled reactor technologies and the evolution of reactor concepts.
This book provides the latest findings on neuroprotection and neuroregeneration as potential therapeutic strategies for various eye diseases, namely, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal detachment, and retinitis pigmentosa.
This volume containing the proceedings of the 13th Yamaguchi Symposium on Liver Disease includes discussion of the direct cellular effects of hepatitis C virus (HCV) proteins on hepatocytes and reviews evidence that oxidative stress caused primarily by the HCV core protein plays a key role in disease pathogenesis.
The series is designed to bring together those mathematicians who are seriously interested in getting new challenging stimuli from economic theories with those economists who are seeking effective mathematical tools for their research. Conversely, mathematicians have been stimulated by various mathematical difficulties raised by economic theories.
The author has first defined the categories of "generation-basis" and "incidence-basis" economic effects in addition to the categories of direct and indirect economic effects, and has shown that it is essential to measure the incidence-basis indirect economic effects for decision making about public investments.
There is more to biological rhythms than circadian clocks. The book's two sections address the moon-derived circatidal, circasemilunar, and lunar cycles on the one hand (10 chapters), and the sun-derived circannual cycles on the other (6 chapters).
This book provides a comprehensive review of established, cutting-edge, and future trends in the exponentially growing field of nanomaterials and their applications in biosensors and bioanalyses.
and 3) Environmental radioactivity, radioactive waste treatment and geological disposal policy. State-of-the-art technologies for overall back-end issues of the nuclear fuel cycle as well as the technologies of transmutation are presented here.
The book has an underlying concept, namely, that the key to economic transformation is to start the development of modern services and that only by transforming the development pattern of the service industry can the transition and upgrade of the economy be effectively achieved.
The impaired brain has often been difficult to rehabilitate owing to limited knowledge of the brain system.
This book provides head and neck oncologists, oral oncologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, medical oncologists, dentists and other members of dental teams furnishing supportive care with a systematic review of recent diagnostic and therapeutic advances in oral cancer.
Finally, the historical relationships among women's survival rates at reproductive age, the theoretical fertility rate to maintain the replacement level and the recorded total fertility rate (TFR) were analyzed.
Conversely, mathematicians have been stimulated by various mathematical difficulties raised by economic theories. The series is designed to bring together those mathematicians who are seriously interested in getting new challenging stimuli from economic theories with those economists who are seeking effective mathematical tools for their research.
This book identifies and analyzes livelihood impacts of recent environmental and socio-economic changes in urban and rural settings of the mountainous state of Himachal Pradesh, north western Himalaya, India.
This book investigates the reasons for persistent public deficits and delayed fiscal reform in Japan, placing a special emphasis on political economy aspects.
Analyzing the relation between population factors and technological progress is the main purpose of this book. The increase in technological progress, which is measured as total factor productivity (TFP), is realized both by improvements in productivity in the short term and by economic developments in the long term.
Child and adolescent psychiatry is a complex clinical discipline whose practitioners work in close cooperation with their professional colleagues in clinical medicine, education, social welfare, sociology, family relations theory, and legal affairs.
The 8th International Congress of Biorheology was held at the Pacifico Yokohama, Japan, a brand new, versatile convention center for international meetings, from August 3 through 8, 1992. This monograph, which is intended to provide a bird's eye view of recent trends in studies of the venous system, is an outgrowth of the Gifu Workshop.
