The European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information (ESSLLI) is organized every year by the Association for Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI) in different sites around Europe.
This book, edited and authored by a closely collaborating network of social scientists and psychologists, recasts typical research topics in these fields into the language of nonlinear, dynamic and complex systems.
The 99 papers (56 full papers, 32 short papers, and 11 demo papers) presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 153 submissions. Part I contains the full papers whereas Part II contains the short papers and the demo papers.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 5th International Information Retrieval Facility Conference, IRFC 2012, held in Vienna, Austria, July 2-3, 2012. This fifth conference aimed to tackle four complementary research areas: information retrieval, machine translations for search solutions, and interactive information access.
The papers are organized in topical sections on contrast-enhancing imaging, digital mammography methods, tomosynthesis system design, tomosynthesis - image quality and dose, clinical tomosynthesis, functional breast imaging, breast computed tomography, computer-aided diagnosis and image processing, tomosynthesis reconstruction, and breast density.
Summarizes polyethylene glycol (PEG)-promoted CO2 chemistry on the basis of understanding about phase behavior of PEG/CO2 system and reaction mechanism at molecular level. This book focuses on special applications of PEG in CO2 capture and utilization, including PEG-functionalized catalysts for efficient transformation of CO2.
This volume on the evolutionary aspects of neuro-endocrinology is based on contributions from the 7th International Symposium on Neurosecretion, which took place in Leningrad, on August 15-21, 1976. The book deals with three major approaches in elucidating the general evolutionary events responsible for the structure and function of neurosecretory elements: (1) phylogenetic development of neurosecretory elements and their function, (2) ontogenetic development of neurosecretory elements and their function, and (3) the role of neuroendocrine mechanisms in realizing species adaptation, i.e., mechanisms causing the evolutionary process. Half of the chapters deal with evolutionary aspects. The majority of them are concerned with the role of different types of neurosecretory cells in the regulation of homeostasis and of the function of endocrine glands, primarily that of the adenohypophysis. The other half are concerned with various aspects of neurosecretion, featuring two main problems: (1) investigation of neural and hormonal mechanisms regulating the function of neurosecretory cells and neurosecretory centers as a whole, and (2) investigation of the role of neurosecretory systems in the regulation of adaptive reactions of the organism.
Gerard van Koten: The Mono-anionic ECE-Pincer Ligand - a Versatile Privileged Ligand Platform: General Considerations.- Elena Poverenov, David Milstein: Non-Innocent Behavior of PCP and PCN Pincer Ligands of Late Metal Complexes.- Dean M.
Contains the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Business Process Modeling, Development and Support and the 17th International Conference on Exploring Modeling Methods for Systems Analysis and Design held together with the 24th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineeringin Gdansk, Poland, in June 2012.
Sintering process studies have re-emerged strongly in the past decade due to extensive discussions about the stabilization of nanoparticles and nanostructures, and the development of controlled nanograined bulk materials.
This book provides an overview of more than a decade of joint R&D efforts in the Low Countries on HLT for Dutch. It details concrete results (resources and tools for Dutch) achieved that have now become available for both academia and industry worldwide.
This white paper is part of a series that promotes knowledge about language technology and its potential. Consequently, the actions that are required to further support research and development of language technologies also differ for each language.

Second volume of a 40-volume series on nanoscience and nanotechnology, edited by the renowned scientist Challa S.S.R. Modern applications and state-of-the-art techniques are covered and make this volume essential reading for research scientists in academia and industry in the related fields.
For specialists in computer science, the book bridges the gap between computer graphics and human-computer interaction, while for general readers, it offers a wealth of insights and practical advice on how to use pictures as a medium of communication.
Many different opinions exist as to the appropriate diagnostic workup and therapy for spinal tumors. By addressing in detail all of the relevant topics and areas of contention, it should prove of great value in establishing rational imaging and therapeutic protocols for spinal tumors.
Microbial extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) are the key components for the aggregation of microorganisms in biofilms, flocs and sludge.
Reservoirs for Wastewater Storage and Reuse is a compendium of available information on this emergent technology, from the role that wastewater reservoirs can play within general water resources management and wastewater reuse policy, to the design and operation of the units, including removal efficiencies for different pollutants.
The book proposes a unique and generalized interpretation method for single and multiple pumping tests made in groundwater reservoirs with layered heterogeneity and with or without lateral anisotropy. This method eliminates the drawbacks of the numerous and frequently applied interpretation methods.
Fertilization in higher plants is a complex process consisting of two events, the fusion of the egg with one sperm cell resulting in the diploid zygote, and the fusion of embryosac nuclei with another sperm cell, leading to a triploid endosperm.
Since the mining industry is still expanding, comprehensive information on the effects of mining activities on the environment is needed.
Paul Popescu, Directeur de Recherche at INRA, has also played a promi nent part in the development of animal cytogenetics, especially in domestic animals. She showed the fascinating correspondence between bovine and human chromosomes and the com pared gene maps of domestic bovidae.
