This book deals with Vitoria, Charles V and Erasmus. Vitoriäs ideas had a major influence on Charles V and his European and American policy. In turn, Erasmus¿ humanism was decisive in the formation of a new international order intellectually discussed by Vitoria and put into practice by the Emperor.Shedding new light on the influence of Francisco de Vitoria and Erasmus on Charles V¿s imperial policy, the book¿s goal is to explore the impact of Vitoriäs thought with regard to the history of, and contemporary issues in, international law, while also comparing his thinking with that of the well-known humanist Erasmus and assessing their respective influences on the imperial policy of Charles V.
It covers a range of behavioral health disorders using an approach that is most relevant to the practitioner: it provides basic definitions, and describes the specific roles of both the primary care provider (PCP) and the behavioral care provider (BCP) as well as specific resources presented in a stepped care model.
This book explains the ethical and conceptual tensions in the use of psychopathy in different countries, including America, Canada, the UK, Croatia, Australia, and New Zealand.
This book discusses the design and implementation of, as well as experimentation on, an open cross-layer framework and associated methodology to provide voluntary interoperability among heterogeneous Internet of Things (IoT) platforms.
This book presents recent advances in computational optimization. Our everyday life is unthinkable without optimization. We try to minimize our effort and to maximize the achieved profit. Many real-world and industrial problems arising in engineering, economics, medicine and other domains can be formulated as optimization tasks.The book is a comprehensive collection of extended contributions from the Workshops on Computational Optimization 2020. The book includes important real problems like modeling of physical processes, workforce planning, parameter settings for controlling different processes, transportation problems, wireless sensor networks, machine scheduling, air pollution modeling, solving multiple integrals and systems of differential equations which describe real processes, solving engineering problems. It shows how to develop algorithms for them based on new intelligent methods like evolutionary computations, ant colony optimization, constrain programming and others. This research demonstrates how some real-world problems arising in engineering, economics and other domains can be formulated as optimization problems.
This work is volume 123 in the Flora Neotropica book series (Lawrence M. Flora Neotropica volumes provide taxonomic treatments of plant groups or families growing in the Americas between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
This book brings together studies that contribute to the emergence of a latinx queer psychology. LGBTQ+ studies have gradually included the perspective of sexual and gender diversity, but they have been predominantly elaborated from North American and European perspectives. This book focuses on different understandings and practices developed by Latin American researchers that contribute to a broader application of psychological knowledge in LGBTQ+ studies, as well as sexual and gender diversity issues, but goes beyond the region by also incorporating chapters written by European and North American authors influenced by latinx perspectives.Latin American psychology has developed original approaches to LGBTQ+ studies based on a new theoretical critique to the mainstream psychological theories that has given rise to a new queer psychology. The chapters in this book showcase both theoretical contributions and empirical researches in this emerging field from six Latin American countries ¿ Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Uruguay ¿ as well as from Spain, the United States and Puerto Rico. Latinx Queer Psychology: Contributions to the Study of LGBTIQ+, Sexual and Gender Diversity Issues aims to contribute to the decolonization of psychological knowledge and practices addressing sexual and gender diversity issues, and to serve as a useful resource for social, community, clinical and educational psychologists working with research and practice involving LGBTIQ+ populations, as well as to social scientists in general interested in queer and gender studies.
This edited volume examines the contemporary practice of human trafficking on the African continent. Section Two focuses on the regional and nation-state perspectives of human trafficking along with selected cases of trafficking.
Addressing a complex issue in contemporary African politics, this volume will be of use to students and scholars interested in African studies, African politics, human rights, migration, history, law, and development economics.
Moreover, we present new results by demonstrating all essential features of Laguerre geometry on the example of checkerboard incircular nets. Classical (Euclidean) Laguerre geometry studies oriented hyperplanes, oriented hyperspheres, and their oriented contact in Euclidean space.
This book presents key principles of the hydraulics of river basins, with a unique focus on the interplay between stream flows and sediment transport.
This book explores what new light philosophical approaches shed on a deeper understanding of (im)politeness. There have been numerous studies on linguistic (im)politeness, however, little attention has been paid to its philosophical underpinnings. This book opens new avenues for both (im)politeness and philosophy.
This book provides a unified exposition of some fundamental theoretical problems in high-dimensional statistics. Based on a surprising connection to a concentration of maxima probabilistic phenomenon, the authors obtain a complete characterization of the exact support recovery problem for thresholding estimators under dependent errors.
The nonequilibrium behavior of nanoscopic and biological systems, which are typically strongly fluctuating, is a major focus of current research. However, new theoretical challenges emerge when the fluctuating system is additionally subject to time delay, e.g. by introducing a versatile approximation scheme for nonlinear delay systems.
The book, after two introductory chapters on seismic design principles and structural seismic analysis methods, proceeds with the detailed description of seismic design methods for steel building structures.
This collection of essays by leading scholars explores the present, dynamic state of metaphysical religion in America.
Owing to the increased accuracy requirements in fields such as astrometry and geodesy the general theory of relativity must be taken into account for any mission requiring highly accurate orbit information and for practically all observation and measurement techniques.
This book comprehensively covers the topic of COVID-19 and other pandemics and epidemics data analytics using computational modelling. Biomedical and Health Informatics is an emerging field of research at the intersection of information science, computer science, and health care. The new era of pandemics and epidemics bring tremendous opportunities and challenges due to the plentiful and easily available medical data allowing for further analysis. The aim of pandemics and epidemics research is to ensure high-quality, efficient healthcare, better treatment and quality of life by efficiently analyzing the abundant medical, and healthcare data including patient¿s data, electronic health records (EHRs) and lifestyle. In the past, it was a common requirement to have domain experts for developing models for biomedical or healthcare. However, recent advances in representation learning algorithms allow us to automatically learn the pattern and representation of the given data for the development of such models. Medical Image Mining, a novel research area (due to its large amount of medical images) are increasingly generated and stored digitally. These images are mainly in the form of: computed tomography (CT), X-ray, nuclear medicine imaging (PET, SPECT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound. Patients¿ biomedical images can be digitized using data mining techniques and may help in answering several important and critical questions related to health care. Image mining in medicine can help to uncover new relationships between data and reveal new and useful information that can be helpful for scientists and biomedical practitioners. Assessing COVID-19 and Other Pandemics and Epidemics using Computational Modelling and Data Analysis will play a vital role in improving human life in response to pandemics and epidemics. The state-of-the-art approaches for data mining-based medical and health related applications will be of great value to researchers and practitioners working in biomedical, health informatics, and artificial intelligence..
The book covers the area of 'Nanotoxicology' but primarily from the point of view of nanotoxicology at the interface with other disciplines including human toxicology;
