This book describes applications of Jaya and Rao algorithms on real case studies concerning different renewable energy sources.In the last few decades, researchers have focused on renewable energy resources like solar energy, bio-energy, wave energy, ocean thermal energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy, and wind energy. This has resulted in the development of new techniques and tools that could harvest energy from renewable energy sources. Many researchers and scientists have focused on developing and optimizing the energy systems to extract and utilize renewable energy more efficiently.In this book, recently developed Jaya and Rao (Rao-1, Rao-2, and Rao-3) algorithms are introduced for single- and multi-objective optimization of selected renewable energy systems. The results of applications of the different versions of Jaya and Rao algorithms are compared with the other optimization techniques like GA, NSGA-II, PSO, MOPSO, ABC, etc., and the performance of the Jaya and Rao algorithms is highlighted compared to other optimization algorithms in the case of renewable energy systems.The book also includes the validation of different versions of the Jaya and Rao algorithms through the application to complex single- and multi-objective unconstrained benchmark functions. The algorithms and computer codes of different version of Jaya and Rao algorithms are included in the book that will be very much useful to readers in industry and academic research.

This book investigates how neoliberalism shaped the women¿s movement in Aotearoa/New Zealand from the mid-1980s to late 2010s and looks at the future of the movement. Based on an empirical study that encompasses the three levels of the movement¿individualised feminism, the work of women¿s organisations, and state feminism¿it explores how neoliberal rationality, promoted by governments over three decades, has impacted feminist identification and activism as well as political opportunities for organisations and institutions working within the movement. Exploring the diversity of feminist voices, the author analyses intersectional, (post)colonial and intergenerational debates within the movement in the context of neoliberalism¿s influence on feminist values and strategies, and examines whether neoliberal rationality succeeded in depoliticising, individualising and fragmenting the movement. The book comes to the conclusion that despite some severe drawbacks, internal conflicts and changes of strategies, the women¿s movement in Aotearoa/New Zealand has survived the impact of neoliberalism.This book will be of interest to scholars of Gender Studies, Sociology, Political Science, and Women¿s History, as well as feminist activists.

Reflecting emerging scholarship on the entanglement of colonial histories, this book examines British and South African perspectives on, and involvement in, the genocide of the Herero and Nama in German South West Africa from 1904 to 1908. Seeking to present a transnational and trans-colonial perspective on the war imposed by Germany, the book sheds light on Anglo-German relations during ¿native' rebellions and exposes shared experiences of colonial violence. This approach aligns with a new surge of historiography which emphasises the co-operation between colonial powers to maintain order in Africa. The author focuses on British involvement in counter-insurgency efforts, its awareness of the extent of the genocide, and how the Herero-Nama War impacted colonial rule in British territory. The book sheds light on how the British government intentionally managed sensitive information on German colonialism according to the geopolitical needs: While reports were ignored and censored prior to 1914, these became instrumental to Britain¿s foreign policy in confiscating Germany¿s colonies in 1919. Not only exploring the war years, the book covers the entire period of German colonial rule in Africa (1884-1919), and highlights British and South African perspectives throughout this period. This book offers a comprehensive interpretation of Sextus Empiricus based on his own view of what he calls the distinctive character of skepticism. It focuses on basic topics highlighted by this ancient philosopher concerning Pyrrhonism, a kind of skepticism named for Pyrrho: its concept, its principles, its reason, its criteria, its goals. In the first part, the author traces distinct phases in the life and philosophical development of a talented person, from the pre-philosophical phase where philosophy was perceived as the solution to life's disturbing anomalies, through his initial philosophical investigation in order to find truth where the basic experience is that of a huge disagreement between philosophers, to the final phase where he finally recognises that his experience is similar to that of the skeptical school and adheres to skepticism. The second part is devoted to explain the nature of his skepticism. It presents an original interpretation, for it claims that the central role in Sextus¿ Neo-Pyrrhonism is played by a skeptical logos, a rationale or way of reasoning. This is what unifies and articulates the skeptical orientation. The skeptic goes on investigating truth, but in a new condition, for he is now tranquil, and he has a skeptical method of his own. He has also acquired a special ability in order to balance both sides of an opposition, which involves a number of different skills. Finally, the author examines the skeptical life generated by this philosophical experience where he lives a life without opinions and dogmas; it is an engaged life, deeply concerned with our everyday actions and values. Readers will gain a deeper insight into the philosophy of Pyrrhonism as presented by Sextus Empiricus, as well as understand the meaning of anomalía, zétesis, epokhé, ataraxía, and other important ideas of this philosophy.
