¿This book explores the everyday lives of gay men in Hainan, an island province of the People¿s Republic of China. Taking an ethnographic and phenomenological approach, it asks how these men construct and experience ways of ¿sexual being¿ ¿ as gay, homosexual, tongzhi and/or in the scene ¿ and what these mean for the ways of living they see as possible within a socio-cultural, political and material context characterised by pervasive heteronormativity. It explores what it means for gay men in Hainan to ¿come into the scene¿, how internet and mobile technologies figure in their everyday processes of sexual categorisation and how these men negotiate orientations and disorientations towards the future in relation to dominant heterosexual life scripts of marriage and reproduction. This book offers vital insights into the production and restriction of non-heterosexual lives in diverse settings, while addressing universal questions of how certain ways of living are enabled and curtailed in living together with others through powerful conditions of uncertainty and precarity. This book examines the foreign policy of the Republic of Cyprus, particularly since 2004¿the year of its accession to the European Union and of the failed Annan Plan V of the United Nations which aimed to solve the decades-old Cyprus Problem. Scholarly work about the politics and foreign policy of the Republic of Cyprus (RoC) has been almost entirely analyzed through the prism of the Cyprus Problem. This is not without justification since the Cyprus Problem is indeed central to the social, political, and economic life of Cyprus. However, Cyprus is located in a highly neuralgic area of historical and geopolitical importance that is, more often than not, characterized by rapid developments, instability, and insecurity. Therefore, the RoC¿s politics and foreign policy go well beyond the confines of the Cyprus Problem, or so they should. Although the subject of the book is not international by definition, the book touches upon many regional and international dimensions that renderit relevant for anyone who wants to better understand not just Cyprus but also the broader region and its importance for regional and international actors.

This book offers a critical deconstruction of radicalism as a political category and through this analytical approach seeks to interpret and assess the presidencies of the former Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad. It contextualizes radicalism within a broader framework of Western-derived political categories, which are too frequently used to simplify the complexities of Iran's domestic political landscape, generally reducing any comprehensive and objective understanding of Iranian politics. This book provides an introduction to information theory, focussing on Shannon¿s three foundational theorems of 1948¿1949. Shannon¿s first two theorems, based on the notion of entropy in probability theory, specify the extent to which a message can be compressed for fast transmission and how to erase errors associated with poor transmission. The third theorem, using Fourier theory, ensures that a signal can be reconstructed from a sufficiently fine sampling of it. These three theorems constitute the roadmap of the book. The first chapter studies the entropy of a discrete random variable and related notions. The second chapter, on compression and error correcting, introduces the concept of coding, proves the existence of optimal codes and good codes (Shannon's first theorem), and shows how information can be transmitted in the presence of noise (Shannon's second theorem). The main theme of this book is the social dimension of the circular economy (CE). This book¿s objective is to provide a foundation for the discussion of social aspects of CE that also allows the integration of CE with the UN SDGs. The emphasis is on geometric constructions over the complex numbers, notably the construction of important classes of abelian varieties and their algebraic cycles.The book begins with complex tori and their line bundles (theta functions), naturally leading to the definition of abelian varieties. After establishing basic properties, the moduli space of abelian varieties is introduced and studied.
