This book investigates indigenous knowledge systems (IKS) in sub-Saharan Africa, thereby highlighting its role in facilitating adaptation to climate variability and change, and also demystifying the challenges that prevent it from being integrated with scientific knowledge in climate governance schemes. This book, the first to explore the politics of definitions from an interdisciplinary perspective, encourages readers to reconsider the value and limits of definitions in confronting antisemitism and Islamophobia. This book mathematically analyzes the basic problems of biology, decision making and psychology within the framework of the theory of open quantum systems.In recent years there has been an explosion of interest in applications of quantum theory in fields beyond physics. The main areas include psychology, decision-making, economics, finance, social science as well as genetics and molecular biology. The corresponding models are referred to as quantum-like; they don¿t concern any genuine physical processes in the human brain.Quantum-like models reflect the special features of information processing in biological, cognitive, and social systems which match well with the quantum formalism. This formalism gives rise to the quantum probability model (QP) which differs essentially from Kolmogorov's classical probability model. QP also serves as the basis for quantum information theory.Recently QP has been widely applied to the resolution of the basic paradoxes ofdecision making theory and to modeling experimental data stemming from cognition, psychology, economics, and finance thereby shedding light on probability fallacies and irrational behavior.In this book, the theory of quantum instruments and the quantum master equation are applied to the modeling of biological and cognitive processes, in particular, to the stability of complex biological and social systems interacting with their environment. An essential part of the book is devoted to the theory of the social laser and the Fröhlich condensate.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is one of the most common procedures performed in sports medicine centers. However, these procedures can carry a long-term failure rate as high as 5-15%%, and when these procedures fail, revision is significantly more complex. Considerable factors need to be assessed in patients that are indicated for surgery, as revisions carry a higher failure rate and potentially less optimal outcomes and return to sport and activity. These factors include, but are not limited to, the status of the meniscus, overall alignment, graft options, placement of prior implants or tunnels, collateral ligament quality, and whether or not the revision must be staged into two procedures.  This text provides a comprehensive, case-based presentation of the most efficient and practical treatment algorithms for patients in need of revision ACL repair and reconstruction. This book provides a comprehensive and updated review of the concepts, models, and interventions related to the process of adjustment to life course transitions. In times of transition, an individual is exposed to experiences that require them to assume new roles and exhibit updated behaviors. Regardless of the characteristics of these transitions, exposure to normative trajectories imposes on the person an intensive engagement in a process of (re-)adjustment. Sometimes this demand is beyond the scope of one's ability, motivation, or comprehension. Hence, some people might ineffectively perceive and/or react to the change and end up feeling unable to handle the change and inclined to escape the situation. A preventive intervention that either reduces the impact of possible risk factors or fosters possible protective factors would support the people in managing the transition.While the importance of prevention of maladjustment is repeatedly mentioned in the literature, this is the first-known book on how to prevent maladjustment.
