This book aims to create a bedside resource for physiotherapists and exercise specialists dealing with a defined movement problem and plan and apply functional therapeutic exercises that can be diversified for the patient.For physiotherapists, exercise is undoubtedly the greatest weapon in treating diseases and improving health. Functional exercise approaches aim to improve physical performance and activities of daily life by adapting exercise prescriptions to the movements that the individual makes frequently in daily life or in sports. The daily activities vary from person to person due to our different habits and lifestyles. Therefore, functional exercise training should be designed differently for everyone. When designing a functional exercise prescription, physiotherapists should consider previous injuries or surgeries that may limit physical activity, as well as general health, muscular strength, endurance and strength, aerobic capacity, and activities that the patient should do in daily life. The functional exercise prescription should be customized considering both the fragility of the patient due to injury or surgery, and the strengths of the patient such as sports/exercise history and healthy eating habits.The book consists of four different parts: the concepts of exercise and physical activity, exercise types, and prescriptions are presented in the first part. The second part is dedicated to musculoskeletal anatomy specific to functional exercise, while the third part explores functional exercise-specific systems physiology and illustrates the compliance of each system with exercise, basic exercise physiology information, and the evaluation and treatment of individuals who are healthy and have diseases that affect each system. Finally, the book has the part of a special topic dealing with nutrition/nutritional supplements affecting recovery in the rehabilitation process after injury or surgery and supporting physical performance during exercise/sports. This book will be of interest to physiotherapists as well as health and sports professionals.

The narrative of the progression of the ¿horse family¿ through geological time, from dog-sized fruit-eating animals with four toes on their front and three toes on their hind legs, to the valiant long-legged, single-toed modern grazing horses, beloved by racing enthusiasts, is the poster child of evolution. However, like the rhinos or tapirs, the horse-like zebras, wild asses, kulans, kiangs, onagers, and the real horses are often portrayed as being past their evolutionary peak as compared to the more recently evolved ruminants (especially bovids and deer) which now dominate the grazing niche. That story of a species group over its evolutionary zenith is compelling, but anyone who has travelled in the remote savannas of Africa or the cold wild deserts of Central Asia is awed with herds of glorious animals that clearly do not ruminate. It appears as though these, so-named ¿hind-gut fermenters¿, are perhaps much better adapted to these environments than one is led to believe. The purpose of this book is to dispel the myth of the inferior Equidae by describing, and investigating, the evolutionary and ecological journey of the horse family in all its glory.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the development of the human central nervous system (CNS) in the context of its many developmental disorders due to genetic, environmental and hypoxic/ischaemic causes. The book contains three general, introductory chapters in which an overview of the development of the human brain and spinal cord, a summary of mechanisms of development as obtained in experimental studies in various invertebrates and vertebrates, and an overview of the causes of congenital malformations are presented. The developmental disorders of the human brain and spinal cord are presented in a regional, more or less segmental way, starting with neurulation and neural tube defects, and ending with developmental disorders of the cerebral cortex. These chapters are abundantly illustrated in colour with carefully chosen clinical case studies with imaging data, and when available, postmortem verification of the developmental disorders involved.In thethird edition, more emphasis has been given to the developmental ontology based on the prosomeric approach, and fetal development. Prenatal diagnosis by ultrasound, MRI and DTI, and classifications of developmental disorders have been updated. A number of new Clinical Cases have been included. Several new co-authors participate in various chapters. The book is intended for advanced medical students, and all those clinicians working with children and adults with developmental disorders of the CNS. From early 2020 for a period of two years at the end of which this book was written, air transport suffered unprecedented setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the pandemic may eventually fizzle out into another flu like occurrence, the restraint with which air transport services were offered would remain with us for a while with some practices being sustained, particularly those pertaining to public health. One of the main areas of air transport that was and will be affected significantly by the changed circumstances - is facilitation ¿ a subject that is regulated by the Chicago Convention of 1944 and its Annex 9.
