Just as we finished the oysters, Amber appeared with two more frosted mugs of Dixie Draft. Dolph kept firing a steady stream of questions at me as we consumed the oysters. I answered most of them, although a couple I avoided by asking him a question in return. I wanted to avoid any questions regarding sex, religion or politics, for now. I felt we would get into all that soon enough. I noted, Dolph was careful to do the same. We ended up talking mostly about his businesses and the firm I was building. Amber arrived, along with another waiter, whom she addressed as Andre', who was carrying a large tray laden with two plates, a large covered serving dish and a covered loaf of warm, buttered French bread. Amber arranged the plates and uncovered the serving dish, and the most delightful aroma assaulted my nostrils. I observed a pile of angel hair pasta in a creamy Alfredo sauce, topped with plump jumbo shrimp, juicy oysters, and succulent crawfish tails. Amber dipped generous servings onto our plates and grated fresh Romano cheese on top. She asked if we would need anything else. I thanked her, and Dolph told her that would be all. She and Andre' removed the tray and left. Dolph uncovered the warm buttered bread and tore off two large chunks, placing one on each plate. I bowed my head and said a small silent prayer. As I opened my eyes and made the sign of the cross, Dolph was doing the same. We dug in. I felt as though I had died and gone to heaven. I said, "Dolph, this is fabulous, your chef is a genius." He smiled, thanked me, and we finished our lunch amid small talk. Amber and Andre' reappeared, and once they had cleared the table, Dolph and I continued to make small talk. Shortly, Amber returned with two steaming cups of cafe au lait and a large saucer of bread pudding with a rum sauce, and two spoons. I wasn't sure I could eat another bite until Dolph picked up a spoon, dipped it into the bread pudding and offered it to me. I gazed into his eyes, opened my m

There are thousands of parents who have children with developmental disabilities and nowhere to turn for help. Now, Dreams Die Hard: Family Histories of Adults with Developmental Disabilities as Told by Family and Caregivers is here. Talking anonymously, parents related their pains, frustrations and fears; they spoke honestly about their marriages and friends. Some of the parents made things happen by starting schools, and creating various programs. Dreams is about hope. Many children whose doctors predicted they would be in an institution now live independently or semi-independently. Many work in the community or in a sheltered workshop, have a social life, go to camp, and travel. Some have married and have children of their own.

I had no hope or will to live growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. In my younger years I started drinking wine on the corner with my friends. In my upper teenage years I started using microdot and windowpane acid. As a young adult I joined the military and gravitated to weed and powder cocaine. Soon after the military my drug of choice was crack cocaine and continued to be for 27 years. I accepted Jesus Christ in my life at the age of 36, but my troubles were far from over. Several years later, after I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, the Lord placed these steps in my spirit. Little did I know that it would develop into a book. My entire life has changed now as I serve the Lord in various ministries as a living example of God's grace, patience, and love towards me and you as well.
Tale of the Tape... By the 1980s, the Dixie Mafia was at the zenith of its power; its tentacles spread from New Orleans to State Department bureaucrats, Colombian drug cartels and around the world to the men just beginning to invent modern terrorism and trade in nuclear materials. Today's headlines are only now exploring the depth of that corruption. Tale of the Tape takes historical events - CIA-sanctioned drugs-for-guns trade in Central America, a Soviet "sailor" returned by U.S. authorities to the ship from which he had just escaped and intrigue behind the 1988 Republican convention in New Orleans - and embarks on a riveting adventure. From New Orleans to Washington, D.C., South America to Alaska, Tale of the Tape reveals that power-hungry decade. Tale of the Tape is a story of betrayal and redemption, honor and disgrace. It is a story of men who would do anything for power and prestige, and it is the story of the two unlikely heroes who took them down. Alan Ables is a career U.S. Navy officer who served in Asia, the Middle East and South America. He is a print and broadcast journalist and photographer, editor, speechwriter, crisis communication expert and a college English instructor.
The Obexlanders and the Assassination of JFK represents the penultimate in conspiracy theories. Anyone who thinks the John F. Kennedy (JFK) assignation could have been a conspiracy will find The Obexlanders enthralling. (No, it wasn¿t the FBI, CIA, or Mafia). Flying saucer and UFO buffs will discover a new twist in the answer to these phenomena. Time travel enthusiasts and Futurists will not be disappointed. Those interested in the nature of the Universe, the Multi-Verse, cosmology, or the Big Bang will find some weird thinking here. Holograms, immortality, species extinction, the nature of consciousness, crop circles, Area 51, extraterrestrial life, and terrorist are topics highlighted by applicable quotes from Albert Einstein, Dwight David Eisenhower and an interview with Fidel Castro. The Oberslnders provides an imaginative answer concerning why Fidel Castro survived so long as Cubäs dictator, why the Vietnam War really took place and why and how 2 million Cambodians were allowed to be killed by Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. For those of you who do not mind a little humor and a light sexual innuendo seasoning with their history, this will be an easy and fun read. The Obexlanders and the Assasination of JFK allegedly written by the Obexlander Historian, TES, is a secret and classified document chronicling the history of this group from the future specifically from the year 3138. The Obexlanders have come here to change history and save humanity from itself. In order to carry out their mission, they undertook dreadful actions for which they were not proud. Somehow this document was purloined from the Obelanders and made available to us. A plethora of interesting characters appear, play their role and move on. One consistent character is the charismatic and brave Obexlander Leader Dewey Steele. Todd ¿Flash¿ Gordon, Chief Field Operator, has adventures in exotic places like Thailand, Vietnam and Pohnpei Island. Jane Phandora, the rebel with a cause, left the Obexlanders to live in Las Vegas in protest against Obexlander planned actions. The Obexlanders is an exciting, provocative and fun deception; historical fiction on the cutting edge of immagination. However, is it possible that elements of the Obexlanders may appear in the reality of our own future? A fascinating if not fantastic read.
Approximately four million people in the United States have Sjögren's syndrome, a chronic illness which is extremely difficult to diagnose, and even more difficult to treat. Sjögren¿s syndrome is an autoimmune disease characterized by an overactive immune system that targets moisture-producing glands in the body. It manifests itself in multi-system dryness potentially affecting every system in the body including, but not limited to, the eyes, mouth, joints, lungs, nervous system, liver, kidneys, and bladder. People with Sjögren's often go undiagnosed for years, their symptoms dismissed by doctors or classified as psychosomatic. All the while, the patient is increasingly unable to participate in daily life. Written by Sjögren's sufferers from various regions of the United States and Canada and including a foreword by Steven Taylor, CEO of the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation, Tales From the Dry Side offers up the stories of thirteen courageous men and women who share their journey with diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment of Sjögren's, as well as candid portraits of how this illness has affected their families, their personal lives, and their careers. Each first-hand account brings the reader through the medical maze that each contributor has had to navigate in their quest for wellness. This book brings hope and comfort to the millions suffering from Sjögren's syndrome and to those who suffer from any of the eighty other identified autoimmune diseases, as well as to anyone faced with overwhelming obstacles. "Books like this are a wonderful opportunity to have the Sjögren's story come to life. I am humbled by those patients that are willing to tell their story. Women and men who are willing to stand up, share their struggles and their triumphs as they manage this confusing and common, yet unknown disease." - Steven Taylor, Chief Executive Officer, Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation
"Described by Portland Book Review as an enjoyable read, War of Dreams was runner-up in the History category at the 2021 San Francisco Book Festival."It's the Second World War and the setting is Europe. Alexander, a German, enters the war as a teenager. He is quickly forced to face a number of life challenges; drifting away from close teenage friends, hurtling towards adulthood, coming to terms with his sexuality and seeing his family disintegrate. In a short space of time he exchanges mountain hikes and carefree living for a life of secrecy as an informant and agent in the Nazi's war machine. Alexander participates in the War not out of free will. It is pressure from family and friends that leads him to volunteer to join the Storm Troopers, the division that starts out as a security outfit to protect Hitler. Instead of being dragged along by this mob's unruly behaviour, sexual exploits and hatred for the Jews, Alexander rather wants to get on with his life. He wants the war to be avoided and wants his family back together in the setting that he loved as a carefree teenager. A transfer to the SD (Sicherheitsdienst) is a welcome escape from the Storm Troopers, although he suspects it was arranged by his good friend, Claus. Despite the war and their different circumstances Alexander maintains contact with Claus, who pursues a successful military career but then develops his own agenda with the war and its outcome. Their paths would cross a number of times, controlled by a strange destiny. Although each of these accidental encounters with Claus highlights how different their war aspirations are, they ultimately desire the same for their country, the end of the war. The war and the roles his family members play in it become a major source of conflict. Alexander's father and brother become members of the Nazi regime early on, but with a passion that eludes Alexander completely. We get a glimpse of what his father and brother's lives are like as engineers in the Luftwaffe. Although fanatically dedicated to his motherland, his father turns out to be a double agent for the Russians and Alexander learns about this in a situation that is horrible for both of them. It is also at this point that Alexander's newly found sexual identity leads to a catastrophic consequence. This novel is a "coming of age" story. It seeks understanding from the reader for a young German who is, after being uprooted from a happy childhood, dragged through a world war. In this war he justifies being a murderer, makes deadly enemies and loses close friends as well as close family members. Much has been written about Germany's Nazi regime and how Germany's enemies experienced war. Has enough been written about the other side? Innocent Germans who did not want war, were unmoved by its propaganda and yet were involuntarily dragged into it, often with consequences no less devastating than for Germany's enemies? This is a fictitious story about humanity and passion, set in a historically accurate timeframe. Although Alexander and his family are fictitious, other characters are based on real life figures as documented in actual World War Two historical accounts. The plots, schemes and espionage scenarios are also based on real events as recorded in historical accounts. This novel sheds light on the often overlooked aspects of war, shows us the understudies, and gives us a glimpse of the acts and actors behind the side curtains.
It's out of the frying pan and into the fire... It's 1955, and Charlotte "Charley" Mason has just moved to New York, leaving behind her hometown in Georgia, her group of baseball-playing best friends, and her boyfriend, Frankie. Things in her perfect new town aren't all they're cracked up to be, though. Her relationship with her mother has gone from bad to worse, her grandpa's leukemia is slowly killing him before her very eyes, and the athletic tomboy has to begin her sophomore year at the preppy, snobby all-girls school, Our Lady Queen of Angels. When a confrontation with the most popular girl in school, Angelica Whitman, goes horribly wrong, her chances at social acceptance are completely destroyed. What's a poor tomboy to do? She'll have to make lemonade out of lemons with the help of her new best friend, Victoria, her amazing boyfriend, and her perseverant attitude. She will join the softball team, attend a sock hop, get detention, run for Homecoming Queen, have a sleepover, make friends (and enemies), stay true to herself, and overcome all odds. But even then, it might not be enough. All that she loves may be lost. The Last Time is an engaging novel about a girl who faces universal high school challenges with grace and courage.
