Discover 17 essential secrets of what it is really like to become a missionary! I stood there in the bookstore saying to myself "God, please don't make me become a missionary!" I hoped there would be a book on the shelf that said 'Read this to make it all better.' That's the book I wrote. 'Read this to make it all better.' There are too many books about how to become a missionary. None of them say the things written inside these covers. Join me on my own personal journey of becoming something I never aspired to be, a missionary to Papua New Guinea. I've read plenty of books on the topic and none of them were nearly as insightful as sitting down with someone who has actually been there, and asking them the hard questions. Did you face hardship? What was the grossest part of living there? What was the best part? Would you do it again? Aspiring missionaries, missionary supporters, missions minded people, frustrated missionaries, families of missionaries, friends of missionaries .... all of you need to read this book. Don't Call Me Missionary is humorous, candid and a little bit irreverent. If the only thing holding you back from becoming a missionary is the fact that you don't like other missionaries, then you need to read this book. I might be the first missionary who ever wrote a book inspired by the fact that I never wanted to become a missionary in the first place. I'll point out the silly and the ridiculous. I'll warn you about dangers that others failed to mention to me. In this book, you'll see the naked underbelly of the missionary life. I purposely avoid politically correct terminology because it is confusing. Too many books are trying to make missions attractive. This one isn't. The way I see it, if God is putting a call on your heart, you have to obey. This book is about giving you the information so that you can obey to the best of your ability. I tell plenty of stories in this book. For some, the stories about my journey to becoming a missionary will b
The majority of my clients in the salon were women, of course, so there have been countless numbers of conversations on the topic of why are men passing up good women. I don't think it really matters what ethnicity a woman is because when she is looking and feeling good about herself and her sexuality you can't tell her anything! She may have gone out of her way to color those roots, pluck those eyebrows, shave areas the sun don't shine or other things to get ready to attract a man. Whether the encounter is a mall, coffee shop, grocery store or nightclub, it is always a little nerve-racking. She goes through 100 self-checks in her mind but then realizes that she is fine and he will notice. Is my stomach sticking out; hope my eye makeup isn't smudged; is there food in my teeth; are the girls at attention? So you can imagine she is a little perturbed when a man she finds attractive passes her by without as much as a "hi, bitch, hi." It's almost as if he didn't notice her or if he did, he just wasn't interested. I have to address this issue because for the men reading this book you are probably thinking 'welcome to our world heifers!' You would be absolutely right. You have been getting rejected from the time you were 10 in fifth grade and Mary, the cutie with the bubble booty and braces, smiled past you. You thought she was looking at you in the lunchroom and you got up the nerve to walk over to the table with her and all her friends (big mistake). You said "hello" only to get laughed at by all of them because Mary was actually looking at Todd at the table behind you. This started your journey of learning to deal with rejection, after rejection, after rejection. "No" after "No" after "No!" I don't think people realize the true definition of success. It's doing something over and over again until you perfect it enough that you win because you never quit. Men, I have to congratulate you on your diligence and perseverance in dealing
History has repeated itself. The ancient Christians of the Middle East are being attacked by their neighbors. They are killed, deported, and forced into conversion while their women and children are raped and sold in the sex slave markets in Iraq and Syria. Yet another genocide is in the horizon-the fifth genocide in less than a century. The Christian Assyrians-the predominant Christian population in both Iraq and Syria-have formed militias and have armed themselves to defend their families and what is left of their honor. Unsupported by the international community, outnumbered and lacking the necessary weapons to fight back, the Assyrians must now depend on their Christian faith, loyalty, and integrity to face a ruthless enemy. Battle drums echo throughout the land as war is on the horizon. It is a historic battle of good versus evil that will determine the future of the Christian Assyrians in the Middle East.
A Boyhood Story of Surviving Family Crisis... When severe mental illness strikes a young family in 1961, each member must sort things out as best they can: typically on their own. These are days of mystery, confusion, and secrets, where "normal" is an elusive prize. As the middle child of three small boys, the author invites us into his world as he attempts to makes sense of their shared isolation. It's a story of adversity and resilience, love and pain, and the unrelenting compulsion to overcome through achievement. Yet there are few villains or victims in these pages. Bruce Hendrick relates with refreshing humor and transparency what it was like to grow up in an environment of well-meaning people who faced life's challenges without the coping tools or understanding they desperately wanted. As the chapters unfold, we participate in Bruce's journey as he gets himself into and out of trouble on a regular basis. We smile as we witness the foolhardiness of a decent but often misguided boy and watch as a budding trailblazer comes of age, one who is repeatedly the last to recognize his own leadership potential. Readers are often carried back to their early years as they recall similar predicaments and victories, taking comfort in their own measures of spirit and...well, dumb luck. The bittersweet boyhood adventures of this future CEO are sure to leave you moved, inspired, and thirsting for more.

A mother's biological experience of "birth" overwhelmingly captures every ounce of her physical being and has drawn endless cultural attention as a cataclysmic event. The actual moments of birth are indeed spectacular and amazing - a miraculous event that reflects the Heart of God. But surprisingly this sensorial transaction accounts for perhaps one tenth of what is actually packed into this small window of time. The remaining ninety percent of this phenomenal wonder occurs in a world unseen by our human eyes. There is a supernatural process of radiant creativity in operation that goes back to the beginning of time and forward to the end of time. Birth, the biological moment of transition, merely connects the small tangible piece of the flesh to the bigger pieces of a supernatural journey which is stunning and amazing, because Yahweh God is an absolute genius at doing life. As a believer in Yeshua the author's journey to fulfill her destiny has led her down an exquisite path of discovery into this unseen world. Working as a Midwife for the last 50 years has taught her to live life, not from this small, tangible, temporary world, but from the magnificent spirit world that encompasses it and lasts forever. The true stories in this first book have focused on redeeming the gift of Kairos moments for God's Kingdom, and a tiny bit of how angelic forces help us do that in the midst of a world of darkness. This book is not about birth or midwifery. It is a collection of stories that demonstrate the faithfulness of Yahweh God, the designer of birth, and the author of its supernatural dimensions, who engages intimately with earth to touch our every need. It is His story written through the lives of His people.

Ever go for a stroll and get blown away by a hurricane? That''s what happens to Neil Riley, the protagonist of the novel With the Children. It''s 1969 and, to dodge the Vietnam era draft, he takes a job teaching 6th grade in South Harlem. He knows nothing about teaching, but presumes it''ll be a snap. Only when he''s confronted by thirty-three street-smart children who know exactly how little he knows does he realize the trouble he''s in. He''s begun a demanding profession with no idea how it''s done. Desperately in need of tutoring, he submits himself to the direction of a mentor who demands a respect he has never before been willing to give anyone. And to complicate matters he falls for a captivating woman whose love unearths the loss and anger that has haunted him since childhood. After his first chaotic weeks in the classroom, Riley begins to realize how intelligent, talented and engaging his students are. And how at risk because of the perilousness of their circumstances. He finds himself driven to prepare his students for the gritty way that lies ahead. What motivates him is his intense empathy, a trait he sees as a bad habit and everyone else, including the children, understands is basic to who he is. With humor, romance, pathos and wry observations of the customs of an inner city school, the novel follows the transformation of a raw youth into a caring adult.
