  • - Poems by DeGaris Reeves

    277,-

DeGaris Reeves was a teacher, historian, gardener, athlete, school superintendent, husband and father. His poems were written between the 1920s and the 1940s, but they spent all of their life in a box-until now! With this first publication, Reeves gives us a window back in time to see how he perceived life during this historical period. The collection spans many topics, presenting poems on the virtues of friendship; questions on life, purpose, and destiny; an appreciation for nature; a memoir; a love sonnet; faith in God to guide us; and the conviction that good will prevail in the end. If there is one message we can glean from his life and his poetry, it is this: even in the midst of troubles, disappointment and rejection-strive on. Strive on! The God that made the earth, labored hard and long, Strive on! And duly prove your worth and do it with a song.

  • - USS Constitution's Escape from Armageddon
    av Alan Ables
    249,-

With nuclear war approaching, the President orders USS Constitution to escape. The Contingency of Government scenario is hopelessly romantic: hopes are that the icon of America's founding ideals may survive somewhere in the South Atlantic and return someday to inspire a post-apocalyptic world. On the eve of sailing, Old Ironside's sailing master embarks on an unexpected and fantastic voyage of his own. He is transported back to the early nineteenth-century. There he finds himself caught in the intrigues of espionage drawing European nations and the young United States of America into the War of 1812. In the past, he realizes he must do nothing to change the future, even though he is tempted. He survives battles at sea, captivity by Barbary pirates, political intrigues, desertion on a barren island and discovers renewed patriotism, romance and -- most of all -- himself. He returns in time to sail Constitution, America's oldest continuously commissioned warship, on a seemingly impossible mission which thwarts the last possible launch of a nuclear holocaust.

  • - A Coming of Age Story
    av Millie B Mehnert
    277,-

Without warning a violent earthquake strikes just inside Yellowstone National Park. It is August of 1959, peak of the summer season in the park. YOUNG WORKERS AT YELLOWSTONE Park call themselves "savages." Through their dialogue and activities, they exhibit the mores of the day. They provide organized entertainment, write a "savage" newsletter, go 'hotpotting' in thermal pools, hang out at West Yellowstone Bar and Grill, and hitchhike in and around the park. But it is the action in a tender love story that transports readers to the 1959 Yellowstone summer. The park is adapting to a different world after World War 11 and the Korean War. The Grand Loop road passes directly through the Villages and the impact of tourists with automobiles is taking its toll on natural phenomena. Outdated caretaking, such as open garbage pits, has not changed. Tourists and young workers risk daring visits to the pits at night to view grizzlies attracted by free food. The bears ingest glass and metal objects along with the rotting morsels. Modernization is long overdue. Ellie Sue Clayton, a young girl from southeastern North Carolina, is lured to Yellowstone Park by her cousin. As a bus driver in the park in 1958 he tells stories of adventure that she longs to experience. By securing a waitress job at Old Faithful, she literally runs from the life she knows, seeking independence and courage to start anew. She is not disappointed on arrival. Boiling water shoots from the ground. Mud pots gurgle. Huge waterfalls take her breath away. But there are obstacles to her goals. She finds herself dealing with two older adults who have unnerving issues of their own and two very different boyfriends who vie for her attention. Beyond that, her mother reacts dubiously to her newfound freedom and independence. Just as she begins to resolve these relationships in earnest, a terrible tragedy occurs-one of the strongest earthquakes in recorded United States history. The epicenter is 25 miles from Old Faithful. Communication is cut and no "savage" seems to know exactly what happened or what to do. A merciless horror dominates all. Nature's violence claims the summer season, reshaping the earth when Hebgen Lake shifts and a mountain falls and dams the river. Inside Madison Canyon, the survivors beneath the mountain are now faced with a threat of death by drowning. At Old Faithful, the lighthearted spirit of summer is overtaken by a heavy weight of disaster. North and West Entrances are closed. Tourists at Old Faithful stream toward the South Entrance. Most park services are directed toward rescuing people trapped in the canyon. The needs of "savages" must wait. Fearful accounts of the calamity reign down on all who remain. Stories circulate about people who disappear beneath rocks and water. There have been horrible injuries and more deaths among some who initially survived. The story of Ellie plays out, with friends saying hurried goodbyes, or forgetting to say goodbye at all. Ellie is not among the earliest to leave. But staying in the park longer gives her time to reevaluate her life for the future. The final decisions she makes are hers alone. She has come of age.

These poems reflect experience that is both universal and unique, illuminated by a personal voice and sensitivity that allow the reader both a sense of community, and a glimpse into something beyond the everyday. Moving, inspiring, and honest, A Journey Through My Soul is a perfect companion for every life path.

  • - Dealing with the Devil
    av Cordell Mitchell

Deliverance Ministry. . . The greatest textbook about delivering men from demonic power is the Scriptures, primarily Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I point you to those men and women who have received a special anointing in this area to read their writings such as Frank Hammond's "Pigs in the Parlor." You will find others if you wish; however, the first answer to a Deliverance Ministry is to do what Jesus did in the gospels. As you read this book you will soon see that I have stayed on a narrow truth in each of them but sufficient for the title I address. Turn to the Scriptures for the final answer to any question. I have over the years come to the conclusion that the Deliverance Ministry is in truth a "Miracle Ministry." As you read my book you will see why. I entered the ministry from my first early days and found myself confronted by demon spirits that required they be dealt with and so we learned: 1st: Use the name of Jesus and the demons could not stand. 2nd: Be bold in casting out demons. 3rd: Miracles and healing took place when demons were cast out. If you follow Jesus and do what He did, you will see what I saw and more.

  • - One Woman's True Life Story of Survival and Selfless Love
    av Kimi
    239,-

When a Perfect Dream World Is a Nightmare. . . By all appearances, Kimi's family was the perfect role model: two hard-working parents and two well-mannered children, at church every Sunday, pillars of the community. When Kimi got married, everyone wanted their marriage to be like hers. Kimi and Kevin were so great together-so attractive, so responsible, such a "Ken and Barbie" couple. But people saw only the surface of Kimi's life. The truth was very different-a life of loneliness, fighting, screaming, and fear behind closed doors. Unwanted at birth, adopted at the age of three and a half, Kimi had already overcome abandonment and pain before she married the man of her dreams, who turned out to be a severe Bipolar. As Kevin's illness worsened, he fell into uncontrollable fits of rage, which were directed at Kimi. Trapped in an impossible situation, terrified that her husband would seriously injure or kill her, Kimi learns that she has one resource left: the gift of faith. This is the story of Kimi's survival against all odds, as the power of God delivered her with miracles and angels, and made possible her escape.
