Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding (BFSU) is a complete K-8 science curriculum in three volumes. This Elementary Science, BFSU is Volume II for grades 3-5. The BFSU science curriculum addresses all the major areas of science: nature of matter (chemistry); life sciences; physical science and technology; and Earth and space science. Lesson plans in each area provide for systematic, step-by-step learning (a learning progression) that leads to a comprehension of basic ideas and concepts fundamental to each area of science. In addition to providing rigorous learning progressions, BFSU guides teachers and homeschoolers in using teaching techniques that have been proven to be most effective in developing students' proficiency in exercising the practices of science. Writing can take that which is invisible in our minds into visible form on paper. It is said, Spirits walk among us in this world. As the Urban Legend, of the Governor's Bridge in Bowie, MD has it, a young girl lived in Bowie in the 70's. When 17 years old she had a baby out of wedlock. She kept the secret from her parents by going to Atlanta to live with her aunt, and have the baby. While there, her mother passed away. Shortly after, she returned home with her infant daughter. Since her father was a minister, it was taboo in the town where his Church had many nearby residents. After a heated argument with her father, she ran to her room, picked up the baby, and wrapped her in a blanket. She fled her home and walked to the Governor's Bridge on that cold and chilly night. While standing on the bridge, she felt the pain of her mother's passing and the thought of being alone and cold. It is said she dropped the baby over the railing into the icy waters below, and then realizing what she had done, jumped in to try and save her. They both perished and on a cool October, foggy, evening it is reported you can still see her standing on the bridge, crying and holding the baby in her arms. Now it's the year 2000 and a new family has moved into the same house she had lived in. They have a daughter, Sarah, also 17. One stormy night, while staring out of her bedroom window, Sarah thinks she sees a young woman on the bridge, holding something in her arms. The next day, she tells her friend Alice about it, who in turn reveals to Sarah the story of the urban legend, The Ghost of Governor's Bridge.The Ghost of Governor's Bridge was picked, by Marcus Smith, award winning photographer, to have a trailer filmed and will be completed late summer of 2009.

Culver City completed its one-year centennial celebration on September 20, 2017, exactly 100 years from the day Harry Culver received his City Charter. Paul Jacobs, former mayor and President of the Centennial Celebration Committee, said that during the year we all searched for words which could describe the pride and enjoyment we have experienced living in and visiting Culver City. The Centennial Poetry Contest organized by Culver City's Honorary Artist Laureate for Poetry, Dr. Hoult, who is the editor of this book, provided an opportunity to articulate our feelings in poetic form which simple words could not. This collection pays tribute to Culver City through the writing and reflections of its citizens and visitors and conveys a sense of pride and love for the city.
