Jerry Ray Holcomb is a big, mean redneck from Tung, Mississippi, who believes Satan has kept him from being killed or thrown in jail in his criminal endeavors. When Holcomb posts a short tribute to Satan, which boasts of the fun people would have if they stopped honoring Christ and enjoyed a devil-may-care lifestyle, a majority of the people agree. Thus begins a robbing, raping, and killing spree in the dog days of summer, as those who hungered for excess in the past but were cowed by Christian ideology feel set free to plunder and pillage in the little town of Tung. Lorrie Woodson is both bright and beautiful. When her former father-in-law gets wind of the violence in Tung and worries about his grandchildren's safety, he asks Lorrie to come back to Dallas and offers her a position as Director of Human Resources for Woodson Oil and Gas. But Martin Woodson, Junior later dies of a stroke, his son has a nervous breakdown, and Lorrie is cast into the role of acting chairman, CEO, and president of the Woodson Foundation. She concludes that since the devil has been protecting Jerry Ray Holcomb, it's possible he has had a hand in her own promotion, as well as the tragedies befalling the Woodson family-and she suspects Satan has taken a life form in the very man she wants more than anyone...

  • - Short Stories of Joy & Pain
    av Terry D Connor
    213

The realization of our inability to love ourselves cuts like a knife. Have you ever lived your life on the premise of what others have fed into your spirit? For years you feel trapped inside of your own body and your own head. You begin racing against the clock and feeling like you have to figure out how to rid yourself of these demons and make yourself desirable enough for someone to love you. We go out of our way to convince others how much we love ourselves, but the reality is, the vast majority of us have been taught just the opposite-to put everyone else before "US!" These behaviors spill over into our adult life, and it's easy to form an opinion about someone you know so little about, just like it's equally as easy for an adult to mold the opinions of a child. If you're not careful, you will look in the mirror, and the reflection you see will be that of a stranger.

For some time now the Holy Spirit has been tugging and pulling, yes gently pushing you to move to the next place in God. The comfort of your current place has lulled you into being satisfied with not progressing. The next place means change... commitment... more responsibility... the stakes are higher and the work is harder. You really are slow to embrace everything that that entails. You want to stay hidden behind the scenes. The enemy is showing you all the dangers of coming out, but God is calling you and you know you must answer. Operating in the light is a transition that occurs when you make the choice to change your posture (Arise), apply your God-given abilities (Shine), and embrace the opportunities that are presented to you (Thy Light Is Come). God''s glory can then be fully manifested through you and all will see the power of the Hand of God at work in a yielded vessel. However, this transition is not an arbitrary one. God ordains a specific and unique process for each one of us to prepare us for this awesome time of manifested glory. This work gives us an overview of several men and women of God whose lives reveal to us the purpose and the power of the process prior to operating in the light. A close inspection of this Divine transition examines three Old Testament women who graphically show us the three components leading into operating in the light. While each of them has a separate and unique story, collectively they map out for us the process required to truly walk in God''s will for our lives. Esther was a Jew whose beauty positioned her to be part of an elite group of women who went through a lengthy process of preparation for a special audience with the king. At the end of that lengthy process, God selected her to be the next chosen queen. Her identity as a Jew was totally hidden during this time. A hideous plot to extinguish the Jews did not immediately endanger her because her heritage was not publicly known. She made the choice to arise from

This is a true to life story of one man's struggle to meet the everyday demands of a tempting and ravaged environment. On his way to becoming a professional drummer, a debilitating hand injury all but diminished his odds of ever building a career in the music industry. Although he wasn't a child prodigy, with determination and daily practice his talents had grown to where he performed with many famous and not-so-famous musicians and entertainers as a well as publishing educational material for the aspiring drummer. But after all his hard work to get where he thought he wanted to be in life, something happened along the way. Earlier thoughts of becoming an Eastern Orthodox priest had resurfaced and he decided that all the things he worked so hard to achieve no longer held precedent. Subsequently, he found himself thinking in two different and conflicting worlds. One harbored a sophisticated identity and carefree lifestyle and the other portrayed a life as a humbled servant. Frustrated with one and unsure of the other, the proverbial fork in the road became his nemesis. What it took to conquer this and other adversities is what this story is about.

Ps-It's All About Love: How a Painful Journey with Psoriasis Became a Life Devoted to Healing OthersFor more than twenty years, Kim Weiler struggled with psoriasis, an auto-immune skin disease. No doctor could offer her successful treatment, and she began to feel frustrated and hopeless at the seeming lack of answers and understanding from the medical community. Help finally came from a most unlikely source: her dog Max's vet. From that introduction to how food and toxins affect the body, Weiler started on a journey of exploration of nutrition and self-love. She found that diet, not pharmaceuticals, can get to the root of illness. Through nourishing her body with whole foods, boosting her mind and spirt with self-love and positive thinking, she was able to deal with the valid feelings of anger, depression, and shame and heal herself of Ps, a.k.a. psoriasis. Now, as an internationally certified holistic health coach, Weiler helps men, women, and children who have suffered from a variety of skin diseases, auto-immune illnesses, and she encourages people to take control of their own health and heal from the inside out. Through Ps-It's All About Love, part memoir, part guide to better health, Weiler compassionately offers a mind-body-spirit solution while setting an example for what self-love and self-healing really means.

How many coincidences and chance meetings can occur before it becomes clear that they are not coincidences, and none of the meetings have anything to do with chance? Gloria "Sweetie" Larosa is a fifteen-year-old hurdler looking for answers while struggling through a challenging freshman track season at a high school in rural Ohio. After her family abruptly decided to relocate from Columbus, Sweetie is reacquainted with three girls she has seen only sporadically as a child, yet all four of them have a unique connection to one another, and to a record-setting relay team from twenty-five years ago. Sweetie and her friends experience a series of unexplainable setbacks, but is all of this adversity actually designed to funnel the four toward a common destiny? Sweetie senses that there's something big waiting for the four of them, something that is "meant to be," if only they have the courage to embrace it. With an unlikely coach at the helm, their course seems to have been set by a greater power - a power unleashed a generation ago when three members of that record-setting relay team promised to keep alive the memory of their teammate. Love was the catalyst that ignited their journey, but it will take every ounce of faith they have to finish.
