  • - A Comprehensive, Simple, and Practical Youth Ministry Resource, In Color
    av Larry S Swann
    333,-

This book was written to address some of the chaos or disorder often associated with youth ministries. It evolved as a result of my own experiences working with young people for the last sixteen years. I was convinced that there had to be way to structure the youth program so that any one aspect is not sacrificed at the expense of another. I came to realize that in my attempt to satisfy the desires of the youth, who could not get enough fun activities, I sacrificed order, purpose, and aim. It appeared that we were, for many years, shooting the air - shooting at nothing, hitting nothing. I had to come around to asking myself the question, "Why was I doing what I did with the youth ministry." In examining that question, I discovered we had no structure, no guiding principles, and no core values. This book attempts to address the confusion that is often associated with youth ministries lacking in these areas, and suggests an action-driven style without losing sight of these orderly components. This work for youth leaders is unique, not only because of its unusual format but also because of its biblical basis, philosophical positions, practicality, and simplicity. It breaks with the black and white style in which youth materials are usually written, and it adopts a new color approach based on acrostics. As a template or model, this work will assist youth leaders with the flexibility of structuring programs that can be unique to their own ministry needs without ignoring core values and guiding principles, and/or afford them the availability of a youth ministry resource as is. It presents activity ideas to instill the core values of the Christian faith in youth in these modern times when the foundations of such values are being shaken and undermined. It includes colorful, illustrative diagrams and graphics in the interior, making it different and appealing to youth workers and other readers. It is goal-focused. That is, it lays out goals and sub-goals that should be common to all youth ministries to some degree, and presents activity ideas, as well as instructions, in some cases, to meet targets. With its concise, outline format and intervening comments, it makes for easy reading while conveying what the author has in mind on some subjects. These features should allow not only youth leaders, but also youth, themselves, to discharge meaningful and leadership duties in an environment geared for them and their peers.

  • - A Guide of Japan for Teenagers
    av Constance Noziere

Upon arrival in Japan, one inevitably undergoes culture shock. The Japanese way of life is so unique that it appears incomprehensible. Foreigners, or "gaijins" as they are commonly referred to, are initially disoriented and mystified. I have written this travel guide to help teenagers discover Japan and decipher its inhabitants' customs and habits. The guide may be equally valuable for adults. It covers everything from "DOs and DON'Ts" to "What to Visit and Where to Eat". It is essentially a compilation of my experience living in Japan. I provide my readers with valuable advice, exceptional addresses and useful suggestions.Although the first few days in Japan are unsettling, one rapidly learns to appreciate the country and its superb culture.

U.S. Route 101 is the westernmost highway of the 1926 U.S. Federal Highway System. A north-south federal highway, it "mirrors" U.S. Route 1 on the U.S. east coast U.S. 101 originally connected our borders with Canada and Mexico between Blaine, Washington and San Ysidro, California. It was, and remains, a major north-south transportation corridor serving Washington, Oregon and California. It is also the longest U.S. highway in California. The highway in 2013 serves in the shadow of the much newer Interstate 5. U.S. 101 also survived the Great California U.S. Highway Mass Extinction of 1964. The 377 mile San Ysidro - Los Angeles segment was decommissioned in the 1970s because a parallel segment of Interstate 5 was nearing completion at the time. For his fourth U.S. highway adventure book, Mike Newlon drove his 1969 Porsche 912 southbound on the full surviving 1,540 mile length of the highway. As with his previous books about other U.S. highways, Mike's perceptive eye and digital cameras present readers with the highway and some of its previous alignments. In addition to the highway itself, Mike's book brings readers the historic architecture, the magnificent California Redwoods, the spectacular Pacific Coast and very active geology along the highway.

Growing up in rural central Texas from the early 1960's to 1970, this book is a series of short stories that takes two young children through adventure after adventure so they can craft their skills in the art of nature exploration and self-reliance. As you read through the different stories, you realize it is not the things your parents told you that helped carve your personality, but it is those things they silently allowed you to do that had the greatest impact. Let each of my stories guide you through a time when living on a farm was far less about not having a color TV, video games, a phone or any air conditioning to comfort oneself and more about enjoying time spent outside in nature. The chapter "Limestone County BC" is set in the early 1960's black land farming area where my brother David and I began developing our early curiosity of the outdoors. We lived in a house where fresh well water, outdoor toilets, chickens, cows and our beloved dog BoBo were the centerpiece of everything we knew. The chapter "Cotton Gins" delivers our first experience away from home and introduces us to the slow paced city of Mart Texas and the cotton gin. It is here that we first experience the existence of life beyond our own farm. The chapter "Living on the Hill" is broken up into two short stories and focuses on mischief and the art of running away from home. The chapter "Great Aunts and Uncles" is where we develop our first experience of a time and of people who would ultimately disappear from our lives at an early age. The home cooked meals prepared from fresh farm ingredients and the lost time of houses without electricity and running water made us appreciate what we had. The chapter "Days with Dad" is like the farm version of "taking the kids to work day", but with a twist. While many days began with hard work, they always ended with the celebration of a good day of learning nature, Dad's favorite eating places, beer joints and local Mart estab

  • - A Reluctant Memoir
av New Jersey) Reid-Merritt, Patricia (Richard Stockton College & Pamona
    277,-

Tarnished Legacy begins at the turn of the new millennium as the author begins to question the pain and secrecy surrounding the deaths of her maternal and paternal ancestors. What proves most troubling is her attempt to understand why all of her ancestors are buried in a poor Colored cemetery on the edge of the City of Philadelphia in unmarked graves. What social and personal shame marked the end of their lives? The story travels back to the late 19th/early 20th century and explores the social conditions which resulted in the birth of the first daughter of a concubine and the resulting social pressures, and privileges, that accompanied the Black community's "high yellow class." In so doing, it helps to shed light on the politics of race and social intercourse. Tarnished Legacy provides insightful revelations as to how folklore, history, humor and culturally embellished spiritual practices and beliefs are used as a form of social resistance from a racially oppressive social environment. Moreover, it details the author's struggle to come to grips with the social ramifications of race, poverty, class and color-caste at the beginning of her young existence and throughout her successful transition into a meaningful life. This remarkably engaging, well-written family memoir is a factually-based, historical account of four generations of family life in twentieth century Black America.

Battle of the Kingdoms: End-of-Year & Beginning-of-Year Annual Forty-Day Fasting & PrayerTo legally battle and rout demonic kings and kingdoms, or other ruling entities and personalities who have encroached on your territory, you need the verdicts of the courts of heaven. Fear Not! Jesus, by His victory on the Cross judged Satan and has already won judgment in your favor! Always pray and agree with the intercession of the heavenly court concerning your spiritual heritage and legal mandates to rule and "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." (Genesis 1:28). Why legal mandate? HAVE YOU EVER PRAYED AND PETITIONED GOD CONCERNING AN ISSUE TO NO AVAIL? There may be a legal case, a book of accusations and summons against you and your bloodline. DO YOU WANT YOUR UNANSWERED PRAYERS RELEASED AND UNLOCKED? Here is a secret you should know about prayer: In the realm of the spirit, every conflict is about legality! Prayer is first a courtroom activity before going to the battlefield to enforce the verdict and the written judgment issued against the agents of darkness battling your authority, power, crown and ultimately your kingdom. (Psalms 149:6-9) HAVE YOU BEEN TRYING TO RESOLVE JUDICIAL SPIRITUAL CONFLICTS IN THE WRONG ARENAS? In Luke 18:1-8, Jesus placed prayer in the courtroom. Everything in the spiritual realm is about legality! God is just and He does not violate His laws! Why? If He did, He would not be God, and a righteous judge of the Universe. The devil is a legalist! But Our God is a righteous Judge! Therefore, don't overlook or violate spiritual laws and risk incurring adverse court verdicts! Without legal victory from the Court of Heaven, spiritual warfare can be dangerous, disastrous and result in defeat and satanic backlash upon you, and your family, ministry, or kingdom! WHY AN END-OF-YEAR AND BEGINNING-OF-YEAR A
