The book is an attempt to comprehend and compile the history, present status and future trends of gender roles in agriculture. The book comprises of three divisions viz., Gender in agriculture development (Part I), Gender in allied sectors of agriculture (Part II) and Data, Tools and approaches in gender analysis (Part III), that explicates the prevalent gendered relegations. It provides insights on the gender dimensions in Indian agriculture, including initiatives, policy reforms and mends the literature gap in gender roles in the sector. The gender roles and impacts from different cultural and geographical horizons of Indian agricultural and allied sectors in the emerging contexts of globalization, urbanization, climate change and the Covid19 pandemic is gathered in this book. The readership of the book covers academicians, researchers, students and social workers who strive towards a gender-neutral world.
The book is prepared with most possible multiple choice questions; fill in the blanks, true false and matching type questions. The pattern of questions and most possible answers may be helpful in preparation of Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Ph.D students for various competitive examinations i.e. Junior Research Fellowships, Senior Research Fellowships, National Eligibility Tests, Agricultural Research Services, Civil Services
Floriculture is a fast emerging and rapidly expanding industry through strong research and development. It covers all aspects related to commercial growing, marketing, arrangement of seeds and bulbs, plants, flowers etc. On the other hand gardening is all about the planning and planting of an area to secure a relationship between the landscape and plants to meet the human needs for beauty and function in the best way. The present title has been planned and designed to meet the long - felt need for a book covering major aspects of important floriculture crops. This book would serve as a reliable source of information about all the important and relevant aspects of floriculture and ornamental horticulture for various uses including production technology of export quality flowers to the persons who are associated with or working in floriculture with the latest information for further advancement. In this book important aspects of floriculture are explained in a concise and easy to understand format using simple and lucid language. Encompassing 32 chapters the book is a detailed summary of facts, figures yet in a comprehensive way.
The book throws insights on the concepts of origin and domestication of spice crops. There are elaborative description regarding different modes of reproduction of plants along with crop specific techniques regarding emasculation and pollination techniques. Conventional plant breeding methods has categorically been explained as these concepts would help spice breeders to choose the appropriate breeding tool. Detailed idea from tissue culture to genomics assisted breeding especially the theory and applications of various omics viz., metabolomics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc., has been elaborated. Finally, different spice breeding information has been comprehensively documented in this book with some useful references to future directions of spice breeding throughout the world. The book shall pave the way for new age researchers, faculties, plant breeders, policy makers and amateur readers towards theoretical and empirical studies as well.
This text book is designed to guide students from a basic knowledge of soil, water, plant, hydrologic and hydraulics to the state-of-the-art of irrigation system design, planning and management. The book will be helpful to the students of Agriculture, Agricultural and Civil Engineering and other related fields. The book is written in simple and lucid languages which will make the students interesting in reading the book and understanding the concept of farm irrigation very effectively. The book is written covering the entire syllabus of Irrigation Engineering which is taught in various State Agricultural Universities and is written as per the recommended syllabus of fifth Deans' Committee meeting of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The book will not only be helpful to the students at under-graduate and post-graduate level, but also will be a helping tool for all practicing irrigation engineers, agriculturists, design engineers, researchers, extension personnel and all others who are directly or indirectly associated with irrigation science and engineering.
Conventional tillage and burning crop residues has degraded the soil resource base and intensified soil degradation with concomitant decrease in crop production capacity. The emerging issue of global warming coupled with greenhouse gases emissions has further aggravated the scenario. Conservation agriculture (CA) helps in reducing many negative effects of conventional agriculture such as soil erosion, soil organic matter (SOM) decline, water loss, soil physical degradation, and fuel use. CA helps to improve biodiversity in the natural and agro-ecosystems. Complemented by other good agricultural practices (GAPs) including the use of quality seeds, integrated pest, nutrient and water management etc., CA provides a base for sustainable intensification of the agricultural production system. Moreover, the yield levels in CA systems are comparable and even higher than traditional intensive tillage systems with substantially less production costs. The conservation agriculture (CA) practiced over an estimated 100 M ha area worldwide and across a variety of climatic, soil and geographic zones, has proved to be energy and input efficient, besides addressing the emerging environment and soil health problems. The CA technologies involving no- or minimum tillage with direct seeding and bed planting, residue management (mainly residue retention) and crop diversification have potential for improving productivity and soil quality, mainly by soil organic matter (SOM) build-up.This bring many possible benefits including reduced water and energy use(fossil fuels and electricity), reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, soilerosion and degradation of the natural resource base, increased yields and farm incomes, and reduced labour shortages.
