Georges Lakhovsky (1869-1942) was a Russian engineer, scientist, author and inventor. His controversial medical treatment invention, the Multiple Wave Oscillator, is described as having been used by him in the treatment of cancer. Lakhovsky published books and articles that claimed and attempted to demonstrate that living cells emit and receive electromagnetic radiations at their own high frequencies. In 1939 he published "The Secret of Life: Electricity, Radiation and Your Body" in which he claimed and attempted to demonstrate that good or bad health was determined by the relative health of these cellular oscillations, and bacteria, cancers, and other pathogens corrupted them, causing interference with these oscillations. Numerous depictions pictured in the book supposedly have Lakhovsky in a Paris, France hospital conducting clinical research treating cancer patients with before, during, and after photographs.

"ALL sacred writings contain an outer and an inner meaning. Behind the literal words lies another range of meaning, another form of knowledge. According to an old¿age tradition, Man once was in touch with this inner knowledge and inner meaning. There are many stories in the Old Testament which convey another knowledge, a meaning quite different from the literal sense of the words. The story of the Ark, the story of Pharaoh's butler and baker, the story of the Tower of Babel, the story of Jacob and Esau and the mess of pottage, and many others, contain an inner psychological meaning far removed from their literal level of meaning. And in the Gospels the parable is used in a similar way." -from the Preface. The New Man is an effort to elaborate the Gospels in light of this inner truth, in order to guide man along the necessary journey he must undertake to avoid violence and self-destruction.

  • av Camillo Sitte
    134,-

Camillo Sitte (1843-1903) was a noted Austrian architect, painter and theoretician who exercised great influence on the development of urban planning in Europe and the United States. The publication at Vienna in May 1889 of "Der Stadtebau nach seinen künstlerischen Grundsatzen" ("The Art of Building Cities") began a new era in Germanic city planning. Sitte strongly criticized the current emphasis on broad, straight boulevards, public squares arranged primarily for the convenience of traffic, and efforts to strip major public or religious landmarks of adjoining smaller structures regarded as encumbering such monuments of the past. Sitte proposed instead to follow what he believed to be the design objectives of those whose streets and buildings shaped medieval cities. He advocated curving or irregular street alignments to provide ever-changing vistas. He called for T-intersections to reduce the number of possible conflicts among streams of moving traffic. He pointed out the advantages of what came to be know as "turbine squares"--civic spaces served by streets entering in such a way as to resemble a pin-wheel in plan. His teachings became widely accepted in Austria, Germany, and Scandinavia, and in less than a decade his style of urban design came to be accepted as the norm in those countries.

  • av Pierre Barbet

What the Gospels don't reveal about Christ's suffering, science does. The Gospels reveal only the barest essentials about the physical sufferings of Our Lord. But in this mind-opening book, Dr. Pierre Barbet relies heavily on his close analysis of the Holy Shroud of Turin to recreate every stage of the Passion with heart-rending precision and detail. The result: a minor classic of spirituality by a modern layman. Dr. Barbet was a devout believer who knew the spiritual value of his findings - and he encouraged priests and pastors to use them: "It is largely with a view to these clerics that I have wished to divulge my ideas, so that they may nourish their devotion to Jesus crucified and may bring it out in their preaching."This classic, with its engrossing and sympathetic medical portrayal of the Passion, has ignited religious devotion in clerics and laymen for over half a century.

Reprint of the original 1924 English translation edition! Buddenbrooks is a 1901 novel by Thomas Mann, chronicling the decline of a wealthy north German merchant family over the course of four generations, incidentally portraying the manner of life and mores of the bourgeoisie. Mann drew deeply from the history of his own family, the Mann family of Lübeck, and their milieu. It was Mann's first novel, published when he was twenty-six years old. Buddenbrooks became a major literary success. The work led to a Nobel Prize in Literature for Mann in 1929. Although the Nobel award generally recognizes an author's body of work, the Swedish Academy identified "his great novel Buddenbrooks" as the principal reason for his prize.

  • av Sister Josefa Menendez
    216,-

First published in the US in 1949 by The Newman Press, Maryland. Now public domain. In 1923, Sister Josefa Menendez died at the age of thirty-three at the Convent of Les Feuillants, Poitiers. During her earthly life she had received visions from the Lord that spoke of His unfathomable love for the world. Everything in Josefa's life is grace giving and profoundly moving. Her writings and her life confirm each other, as evidence that all that took place in her was divine in origin. Even the most extraordinary happenings have an aim and significance. There are no useless details, no record of revelations that do not bring out in clearer light and force some dogmatic truth, giving us deeper insight into the Heart of Our Lord, His love, the value of souls, the happiness of heaven, the irreparable loss of the damned.

  • av Frank Sheed
    162,-

Sheed's concern with the Gospels is to come to know Christ as he actually lived among us and as he interacted with all the various people he encountered from his infancy to his passion and death. Sheed attempted to show Jesus through his effect upon others--seeing how they saw him, trying to see why they saw him so. There is much about Mary and Joseph in their task of bringing up a Jesus; about John the Baptist; about Mary of Bethany and Mary Magdalen; about Nicodemus; about people we meet only for a moment, like the man born blind and the owners of the drowned swine; and why the Pharisees, not only the worst of them but some of the best, would not accept Christ. Faith, doctrine, prayer, worship--all the content and consequences of Christian belief--rest on the person of Christ Jesus as recorded in the Gospels. In this classic study, Frank J. Sheed employs wide learning, theological sophistication, spiritual insight, and a lucid style to bring the reader to a personal encounter with the living Lord. Sheed had a distinguished career as a publisher, lecturer, street-corner evangelist, and popular writer.

  • av Frank Sheed
    162,-

In this work, one of Sheed's more popular titles, he defines sanity as living mentally in the real world. He argues that some of the more important elements of reality cannot be known save through theology. This book contains as much theology as one must know to be at home and aware in the real world. The first section treats of God as the human mind might discover him, as He has revealed Himself. The second section treats of the universe God made-particularly humanity and what has happened to it. The third section considers what the life of man should be.

  • av Roland Dorgeles

With a great pile of packets in front of him like a peddler's pack, the harassed quartermaster was calling out the post in the middle of a regular mob of soldiers, who were all plying their elbows and trampling on one another's feet. It was just at our door, between the communal washhouse -- so tiny that there would hardly have been room for three washerwomen under its sloping shelter roof -- and the notary's house, which wore a red scarf of virginia creeper crosswise on its front. We had clambered up on the stone seat and were listening attentively. "Maurice Duclou, first section." "Killed at Courcy," cried somebody. "Are you sure?" "Yes, his mates saw him fall in front of the church. . . . He'd caught a bullet. Now, . . well, I wasn't there myself." On the corner of the envelope the quartermaster wrote in pencil, "Killed." "Edouard Marquette." "He must be killed too," said a voice.

'War with the Newts' is Karel Capek's darkly humorous allegory of early twentieth-century Czech politics. Captain van Toch discovers a colony of newts in Sumatra which can not only be taught to trade and use tools, but also to speak. As the rest of the world learns of the creatures and their wonderful capabilities, it is clear that this new species is ripe for exploitation - they can be traded in their thousands, will do the work no human wants to do, and can fight - but the humans have given no thought to the terrible consequences of their actions.

  • av Samuel Chadwick
    93,-

Samuel Chadwick (1860-1932) was a Wesleyan Methodist who offered up straight-forward teaching to as many as would receive it. His teachings focus not on the theoretical expanses of what God may or may not do, but are instead centered on the Christian experience. However, he teaches only the experience which is clearly backed up by the Bible. Chadwick's definition of Pentecost is different than that of today's mainline Pentecostal churches. He is speaking of the classic Methodist teaching of entire sanctification, perfect love, or whatever else it may be called. However, this book is of great value to mainline Pentecostals, as these teachings are what helped birth the modern Pentecostal movement. What he has to say is desperately needed in the church today. There is no question why Chadwick's works have endured these many years past his death. He taught plainly from the living Word of God, and that word endures forever.
