The women in this volume of the Heads and Tales series have a way with words. They are remarkable women, all with remarkable and sometimes extraordinary stories.Jim Stovall, in this volume, brings us his unique journalistic and artistic vision of women who whose writings and lives were always notable, sometimes notorious, and occasionally astonishing. Some of these women, such as Louisa May Alcott, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Eleanor Roosevelt, you will have heard of or read. Others will have receded - often unfairly - into the mists of history. What you will find here about each of these women is something new - some part of their story that you had never known. For instance:Louisa May Alcott, famously the author of Little Women, was also A.M. Bernard, author of what was in her time known as the "blood and thunder" novel, the gothic sensationalism that many readers of her day craved. Such writing put food on her family's table.Aphra Behn, possibly the first female writer in English to make her living as a writer, was not only a popular playwright but also a spy for King Charles I.Anne Brontë, the least well known of the Brontë sisters, wrote the most shocking and forward-looking feminist novel of them all - a novel that sister Charlotte hardily disapproved of.Rachel Harding Davis, mother of the famous journalist and early 20th century heart-throb Richard Harding Davis, supported her family by writing some of the first American realism stories - decades before her male counterparts in the realism school took up their pens. And we haven't even gotten to page 25 yet. There are many more such stories: the first female presidential candidate; the first American detective novelist; the first voice from the White House after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The list goes on.And then there are the caricatures. These drawings by the author add insight and entertainment to this unique collection. In addition to the women mentioned above, discover the stories of Helen Gurley Brown, Maxine Cheshire, Mary Mapes Dodge, Mary Anne Evans (George Elliot), Wanda Gág, Martha Gellhorn, Susan Glaspell, Anna Katherine Green, Angelina Grimké and Sarah Grimké, Fannie Lou Hamer, Lillian Hellman, Mary McCarthy, Marguerite Higgins, Emma Lazarus, Caroline Norton, Helen Kirkpatrick, Anne Ratcliffe, Catherine Parr, Mary Seacole, Elizabeth Cochran Seaman (Nellie Bly), Ida Tarbell, Dorothy Thompson, Mercy Otis Warren, Victoria Woodhull.
Conflicting environmental ideologies and blatant hypocrisies foster criminality and a brutal murder designed to satisfy both the desire for long-awaited revenge, but also to frame an innocent person for the killing. Only the efforts of a brilliant indigenous eccentric give hope for redemption through the unravelling of compelling counter-arguments that await proper retribution..........................if time allows.
The scriptural doctrine of Salvation is the most important doctrine in our Holy Bible; get that one wrong and none of the rest matter.Every soul is precious to God, whether that soul is in a meth lab, a prison cell, a throne room, or out on the street. Some might say God doesn't love everyone because He said He hated Esau. (Romans 9:13 Malachi 1:3). You can love someone while hating them because the opposite of hate isn't love. The opposite of hate is like. That's why you can respect someone you hate, but you can't like them.Love's opposite is apathy; Love is passion and concern; apathy is the lack of concern or passion. That's why God is love.
Mail can seem almost sacred. We are offended if people read a letter addressed to us that we did not want them to read. There are times when we like to keep what we know to ourselves and not let anyone else get in on it. We, however, are going to get to read somebody else's mail. This book looks at selections from all the New Testament epistles other than any from the book of Romans which is covered in a series of four books listed on page 2 inside. These are not letters of the dead past, but messages of eternity. Let's read them and not miss out on them.

A journey through concepts of image and theology to examine some hugely contentious issues which are all bound up with our view of the body. The Bible states that humankind were created in the image of God. How do we reflect and distort that image? If Christians view Jesus as God in the flesh how does that impact on our view of the body? In an age where body image seems to be at the forefront of so many problems and body shaming is on the increase how do we work through these issues? Can theology help us to come to a balanced understanding of our intrinsic value as human beings and help us to accept our bodies as precious creations reflecting the image of God within us?

"It will be very reasonably asked why I should consent, though upon a sort of challenge, to write even a popular essay in English history, who make no pretence to particular scholarship and am merely a member of the public. The answer is that I know just enough to know one thing: that a history from the standpoint of a member of the public has not been written. What we call the popular histories should rather be called the anti-popular histories. They are all, nearly without exception, written against the people; and in them the populace is either ignored or elaborately proved to have been wrong."
Everything changes in a moment for Bailey. He had returned to his luxurious home in California as a private school boy, ready to follow his father's steps into the world of classical music and books, but it all changes when he is informed that his parents had been in an accident. His grandparents don't want him, but he has an uncle in Maine who has agreed to take him.Bailey is resigned to the sudden move across country to live with the only relatives willing to take him in, but is forced to learn that sometimes family isn't always the perfect picture he had grown accustomed to. Sometimes family means living in an attic with strange sounds in the walls, life-size dolls, family curses, butterflies, and a yellow lizard that he will be forced to called "home". As the story unfolds, Bailey is forced to confront questions he's never truly asked before; Who were his parents before he was born? Can a family be put back together after it had been shattered before? Where does one draw the line between grief and madness? Bailey must find the answers, or he will be just another name added to the family curse.
