In the last 20 years, I have driven across America four times, visiting and photographing craft distilleries. Five years ago, I traveled around the world, visiting the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, and Tasmania. Other trips have included to Europe have included England, Ireland, Norway, Czech Republic, France, Germany, and Italy, visiting and photographing the full range of craft distilleries. These trips resulted in numerous books, including 99 Pot Stills and The Nano Distillery. The database on my MacBook Air shows over 18,000 photos, most of which will never be published. To do this book, I reviewed my photo files and culled the best images from my travels. These images were sent to my illustrator Francesca Cosanti in Italy, who translated the photographic jpegs into line drawings for the coloring book. Designer Kate Jordahl then worked with me to design and lay out the entire book.Onward... Bill Owens

With no clear path that will satisfy him and the royal family, the tug between following his heart and doing his duty to Andelar becomes harder every day. Slow Learner is like a walk through the woods with your smartest, funniest, most observant friend-in the excellent company of at least two dogs. Afterward? Wine by the fire. And all the cheese.-Jill Christman, author of If This Were Fiction: A Love Story in EssaysWhat I admire about Slow Learner by Jan Shoemaker is the entire package: her range, her seemingly effortless eye for literary effects, and her complete control of tone. By range I mean she can go from meringue to mystery in a phrase and by literary effects I mean she successfully pulls off more surprises in a paragraph than most writers do in an entire essay. As for tone, she moves assuredly from ridicule to reverence and back, hitting all the emotions in between in every single essay. I laughed all the way through this heartbreaking book. In her view we live in a miracle and are committing a tragedy. No one has said that with more grace, honesty, and generosity of spirit than Jan Shoemaker.-Steven Harvey, author of The Beloved RepublicIf I can't have Jan Shoemaker living next door, and I have accepted that cruel fact, at least I can read every word of Slow Learner from cover to cover and then read it again. The only other insurmountable problem is that I wish I had written it.-Abigail Thomas, author of What Comes Next and How to Like It
Lifelong friends Radley and Sloe set out to become the "Voice of the New South." But a curse they believe was cast upon them by their former friend and co-worker, Shameus -- plus questionable talent -- derails their efforts
One woman's journey from a working-class White upbringing to becoming a relentless advocate for justice in America. Coming of age during the tumultuous 60s, Carol knew that race and gender impacted daily life in the United States.>First, at the highest level of Navajo tribal government to reset federal-tribal contractual relations and promote economic development. Institutional racism was real. Then, while raising two daughters in New Mexico with her African American husband, and after becoming a member of the N.M. bar, she won a high-profile race discrimination case against a large corporate employer. Her political activism culminates when she and her husband direct the 1984 Jesse Jackson presidential campaign statewide. That experience taught her how entrenched race politics works. The suspense and intensity of Carol's political struggles are matched only by her personal ones: coping with a divorce and one daughter's fatal disease, parenting in the nation's capital, launching an international career at age 50, and finding the mental fortitude to win against the odds. Race Consciousness: A Personal and Political Journey won the 2024 Indie New Generation Book Award in the Memoir: History/Legacy category.
