Death in Etobicoke is an eclectic collection of humorous stories, which are clearly valued by intelligent readers with a keen sense of humour. That sounds like you, doesn't it?In this book, journalist and best-selling author Scott Colby focused on two themes: The first is how the tasty and tantalizing desires in life bring us the promise of great pleasure but can ultimately lead us to an untimely demise. But Colby reveals this in a very entertaining and hilarious way, of course. The beating heart of both the desire and destruction is the strangely alluring goth goddess, Lucy Fehr, whom our hero, Scott Colby, cannot resist. How many times must Colby fall for her enchanting, yet lethal, charms? Spoiler alert! Three, to be exact. The second theme is that a healthy perspective to life is often earned by facing our fears and pushing through misery. Everything is going to be all right. Unless, of course, Lucy Fehr suddenly appears! Please note that Death in Etobicoke was originally published in 2019 as Tales from the North Shore. The third instalment of the "Death in Etobicoke" trilogy has been revised for this edition.Praise for "Death in Etobicoke" "My friend and I are reading 'Death in Etobicoke' to each other, laughing our heads off. Actual tears. Best thing I have read in ages ..."- Alexandra Gillespie, English Professor and Principal, University of Toronto Mississauga"Shades of Stephen King, an undercurrent of Flannery O'Connor, wrapped in the best of Ray Bradbury, Scott Colby's 'Death in Etobicoke' takes us on a riveting romp through life's irreversible moments ... and 'then the visions begin.' I love this book!"- Jerry Levitan, Producer of the Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning I Met The Walrus and author of the internationally acclaimed book of the same title"It's a treat to read this book ... (The Thunder Bay stories) are laugh out loud funny."- Lisa Laco, CBC Radio Thunder Bay"The book is beautiful. The way the narrator's curiosity and occasional expression of wonder at whatever revelations are at hand keeps giving the reader a sense that magic is just a word or two away."- Charles Wilkins, author of international bestsellers, Paddle to the Amazon and After the Applause as well as The Circus at the Edge of the Earth, Walk to New York and In the Land of Long Fingernails.

Paydirt: Jake Lydon Mystery Series (Book 6)>Toss in a suspicious hit and run, a late-night kidnapping, a vicious home invasion, a bullet through Jake's window, oh, and a dead pickleballer, and he's picking at a big ball of knots like a long string of old Christmas lights. Then the bodies pile up. And Jake and Alexandra find themselves on the verge of joining them. Throughout this sixth Jake Lydon misadventure, he is his usual blunt, clumsy, cranky, and irreverently foul-mouthed self-all the qualities that have made him beloved by a very, very few. One foot in both worlds, welcome in neither. Fathered by the most hated man in the shifter world, Griffin is considered a half-breed and is welcome by neither the shifters nor one-forms. When he's captured by the Alliance, he has the choice of remaining loyal to blood, despite loathing everything they represent, or helping the shifters and earning the chance of a life. All of his plans change when the animal his family suppressed for decades decides it's time to take over and there is no going back to how Griffin was. Blaise is a mutt in her community. A mixed breed shifter marked by a darker skin pigmentation for all to plainly see. Having a family and happily ever after has never been part of her plans, and she made sure it could never happen. She survived her cruel childhood and is content with her adult life. The only thing she lives for is her job. As part of the Alliance's Special Operations team, she spends her time on the road enforcing laws for her kind and bringing justice to those who break them. Her every moment for the last year has been bringing an end to the terrors her kind have faced at the hands of a human organization-anything and everything she can do to stop them, she will. When she is sent to watch over someone the Alliance captured, her life takes an unplanned turn. This man is nothing like she thought he'd be. It becomes a struggle to keep him alive and out of the hands of those that will do anything to get him back, but she's determined to keep him safe. In Jacqueline Paige's Animal Senses Series, hearts and tempers collide with wild passions and animal instincts. Animal shifters live among normal humans (one-forms) and have since the dawn of time. They blend in without any cause for notice until a crime organization finds out and starts hunting them to sell off across the globe. The shifter alliance is formed to protect all their kind. Their teams are working endlessly to rescue all of theirs from lives of servitude and shutting down any involvement in the underground organization.

Utilizing an arsenal of tools amassed from years of study and teaching, Ace Baker unleashes a powerful collection of 12+1 tales.Always compelling, sometimes irreverent, often shocking; revealing layers and levels not often achieved through short stories. How to Make a Killing Jar will linger long after the last page is read, proving the world of fiction can unveil some harsh, hard, and sometimes humorous truths about the human condition. Praise for Ace Baker's Writing "The Killing Jar" "A wonderful story of love, heartbreak, and redemption, all sliding past each other in overlapping layers of depth and meaning." -Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series "This story is a tour de force that left me breathless and awed by the indelible images it thrust into my awareness. It's a searing piece of writing--terse, taut, and terrific in its brilliant intensity, with the poetic commentaries falling like sparks from a brilliant rocket. A stand-out winner by anyone's standards." -Jack Whyte, author of The Camulod Chronicles "Plow Breaks Soil" "Big Red Schoolhouse (the poem included in "Plow Breaks Soil") keeps us up to our elbows in the muck of the moment...the poem is dynamic and dramatic in its details, as elegiac as it is realistic and beautifully sequenced though stanza and line...a choreographed chaos of feelings and action, dominated by a double dimension of obligation..." -George McWhirter, Vancouver's first Poet Laureate "Graphic and painful, but so wonderful to read. Really interesting and compelling story." -Geraldine MacDonald, Blank Spaces fiction contest judge "Menos Coca, Más Cacao" "Now that I know that Ace is also a poet, it makes sense because I noticed the rhythm and the flow and the pacing." -Rachel Laverdiere, editor Barren Magazine TW: violence, suicide, abuse, sexual assault

The anthology Blended Voices: Blending the Voices of Virginia began as a Poetry Society of Virginia (PSV) workshop I designed during the PSV Centennial year (2023). The Centennial theme was to celebrate the diverse voices of Virginia poets. I conceived of the idea of highlighting historic Virginia poets from diverse backgrounds, with the aim of blending their voices with those of diverse contemporary Virginia poets. The second goal was to educate participants about historic Virginia poets as they prepared to blend their voices with those of the historic poets. We had a small, enthusiastic group of participants for the workshop I ran in Richmond, Virginia, on May 6th, 2023, during the PSV Centennial Festival. The format of the workshop was slightly different from that of this book. In the workshop, participants picked poetry lines at random from four color-coded bins, one for each historic Virginia poet. The lines had been excised from two different poems by each historic Virginia poet: Edgar Allan Poe, Ruby Altizer Roberts, Anne Spencer, and Karenne Wood. Together, these authors represent several of Virginia's demographics: Caucasian male (Poe), Caucasian female (Roberts), African-American female (Spencer), and Native-American (Monacan) female (Wood). The workshop participants then created their own poems, using the four lines they had randomly chosen from the work of these historic poets. I presented a second workshop via Zoom to another set of participants. For the book, I decided to extend the challenge to all Poetry Society of Virginia members. Since the contributors would be working remotely, they were presented the same two poems from each of the four historic poets-a total of eight-and invited to choose one line from one poem by each poet. From these lines, or woven around these lines, they each created a novel poem, thus adding their voices to those of the historic poets. As the reader will find, the result is a joyful selection of widely different poetic contents and styles. Most of the historic poems are reprinted in the beginning of the book, so the reader can understand the original intent and experience the historic poets' voices before they are blended with voices from contemporary Virginia poets.Sofia M. Starnes, Virginia Poet Laureate, Emerita, has been kind enough to add her editing expertise and keen poetic eye to the process of compiling the anthology. We hope you enjoy the resulting collection, and that the blending of voices it represents will foster a further blending of Virginia's diverse peoples and cultures.Kathleen P. Decker - Past Vice President, Eastern Region, Poetry Society of Virginia
