Pittsburgh, PA is known as "The Steel City". It holds a reputation of strength, and dominance in the architectural designs of the high-rise buildings. Three rivers of raging force rip through the surrounding mountains with occasional cliffs and wooded areas. Huge steel bridges arch over the rivers connecting the North, South, East, and West side districts. The gentle wind blew silently through the huge oak trees that stood in the yards of the traditional stone houses. Albert sat on a large boulder; eyes transfixed on the small campfire. The isolated wooded plateau formed in a huge cliff on the mountain overlooked the city. The cool night air was still upon him as the morning sun began to rise. He was determined to figure his life out. The world seemed like it was against him. Deep down inside, he knew he would master his destiny.

I was hardly aware of the dizzying heights at which my tiny body was being looped and dipped roughly through the Sumatran treetops, just in the season of the monsoons. I was wrapped in red fur, totally protected by huge ape muscles, while moments earlier I had been poised at the tiny village podium preparing to give my "Why I should be the Baby Palm Oil King" speech when an orangutan with a savage demeanor rocketed out of nowhere and snatched me into the blowing and dark jungle. I was already three months old but had never had an experience such as this. I was particularly annoyed that the banana leaves on which my speech had been written now littered the ground of the parade route and this meant I surely would not be paid. I needed those Rupiahs because cloth diapers were not cheap in any of the regencies of the realm. It becomes had to imagine that since that early time I have been swimming with box jellyfish, flying with vampire bats, educated in seventeen countries, married fifteen times without a single divorce, and knighted by the Queen of Lashta. My experiences throughout the world have been the stuff of legends and most of my twelve months on Mars were enriching - within a there-is-nothing-but-dirt-everywhere frame of reference. I was summoned by the Ruler of the Undersea Kingdom to write a book that would explain people to themselves so after literally MINUTES of research, STUPID PEOPLE was born. It is my most pelagic hope that many of you will begin to finally perceive the abyss of emptiness that is your body of thought and that you will smilingly nod and blink your way to the very end of the final sentence and somehow realize that it is perhaps about you I am writing. Please do not buy products containing unsustainable palm oil. Orangutans need a place to live just like you do. And at least they have the decency to poop outdoors.
Hard-Boiled Egg Index is a true story on the struggles Kudzai Gumunyu and most Zimbabweans went through during the record- and heart-breaking hyper-inflationary period in Zimbabwe. Though saddening, the story is told in a humorous and vivid way detailing how Kudzai had to adjust to the effects of economic meltdown. Zimbabwe's inflation rate reached a mind-boggling 89.7 sextillion percent by 2008 and US$1 was worth 3 nonillion Zimbabwean dollars had the Central Bank not debased the currency three times with twenty-five zeros. The ZWD100 trillion became the highest denomination on the planet. Before the crazily denominated notes, money was being carried in wheelbarrows and grain bags and the purchased item in your hand due to rapid loss of value. Every day became a struggle from shortages of foodstuffs, collapse of services, bank queues, as well a salary that could not keep up with inflation. The writer also gives the life and economic lessons learned, which can be useful to other countries navigating similar economic minefields. It ends with a positive outlook for the country and the hope that the Jewel of Africa (Zimbabwe) will sparkle again given its educated and competent human capital, abundant and rich mineral fields, tourist attractions, rich agricultural lands aided by a favorable climate, as well as, recently, a change of leadership.
