""Often, I find myself waiting for permission. I was trained this way. At school, I had to ask for permission, to go to the bathroom. At home, I had to ask for permission to go outside. At work, I have to ask for permission to go on a vacation. My whole life, I've looked for permission to live my life. When in reality the only permission I need, is my own. I created this book as a journal, to give myself permission. I did this for 21 days, to create a map, showing how freeing it can be to give myself permission. Permission to live my life, on my terms, despite what is expected of me. Permission to take back my power. Permission to be in control of my life. Permission to make mistakes and learn from them. Permission to make myself the most important person in my life. Because if I don't have me, who does?""

""What should we do with the pain that accompanies loss in our human existence? What (or who) do we reach for? How can a person of faith rationalize their experience with their beliefs? Christina Maldonado was not sure. Joy Comes with the Mourning is a collection of short reflections from the author's personal grief process after she lost one of her dearest friends to breast cancer. Written while she was simultaneously beginning graduate school to become a healthcare chaplain, her raw emotions and questions flood the pages. The pieces are presented in the order they were written with minimal editing. While many of them reflect her Christian faith, any reader will be able to relate to the themes. This book of poems is for other maladaptive daydreamers. Reality is so often full of heartbreak, sadness and betrayal that we escape into a world of fantasy. After experiencing a stroke at the young age of 47, this book is my healing journey. On this journey, I quickly learned that in order to heal my body, I had to heal my heart, mind and soul. I call it my full body healing. This journey cost me a lot: family, friends, significant others. I was broken down to my most vulnerable parts so I had to restart the journey of life to repair and rebuild from the beginning. This journey was mine and mine alone. Though I had the support of my core people, I had to redefine loneliness and realized I was just alone. I had to be honest with myself about every aspect of who I was in order to become the person I'm supposed to be. I let the trauma be a catalyst for the new life with the new me. This included physical healing, like physical and occupational therapy, but also emotional healing with mental health therapists, and spiritual healing by directly talking to God and learning how to hear his voice. Healing is a lifelong journey. But as I'm re-emerging, I realize that everything I need, I already have, including the relationships that helped me through it all. This book is a part of my never-ending journey to heal. Your healing journey will look different, but I hope you will find this book encouraging and motivation to start your own journey.
A book a poems that show how God is the answer to EVERYTHING in our lives. Through the good, the bad, and the ugly, God has been there to get me through.
