Attainment of sustainability is not an endeavor of a single day, but a life long process. This study sought to examine the major issues facing the sustainability of Community Based Projects in developing countries with reference to Kenya. The study employed survey research design. The sample was selected from four main Community-Based-Projects, which appeared to be unstable. The sample consisted of thirty six Project Steering Committee members and fifty six Community Projects Members. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study established that the major issues facing CBPs included project management processes, local and team leadership and financing issues. This study recommends an adoption of more radical approaches in handling the theme of sustainability of CBPs: new project sustainability models built on intrinsic sense of duty attained through individual and organizational based processes. This study is therefore, expected to arouse new interest among scholars, development practitioners and students of research about re-mapping the traditionally established paths of attaining project sustainability in developing countries.
Bullying can have enduring effects on boys, with a lasting impact of depressive and traumatic symptoms. Gay adolescent males are particularly susceptible to bullying, and may be targeted at a higher frequency than heterosexual boys. This heightens the experience of isolation and self-hatred that many gay adolescents report. However, not all individuals who are bullied develop depressive or traumatic symptoms. Those who received parental support during the bullying period, and who sustained a sense of self-efficacy related to the victimization were likely to be less negatively impacted by the bullying experience. The current study observed the combination of bullying and internalized homophobia, and how internalized homophobia contributed to the relationship between bullying and symptoms of depression and PTSD, as well as posttraumatic growth. The study also explored two resiliency factors hypothesized to moderate the impact of bullying on internalized homophobia: self-efficacy and parental support. The sample was comprised of approximately 100 young gay men, recruited through community sites.
It is a well documented finding in finance theory that share prices drift in the direction of firms'' unexpected earnings changes, a phenomenom known as post-earnings announcement drift, or earnings momentum. In this book, I study the stock prices'' reaction to firms'' quarterly earnings announcements. The book shows that the timeframe in which the drift occurs is related to the size of a firm and is limited in time after the earnings announcement. I further analyze the effect of the number of analysts covering a firm on the magnitude and persistance of post-earnings announcement drift. I document that recent analyst coverage predicts large drifts after the earnings announcements. I suggest several possible explanations, but the evidence seems most consistent with recent analyst coverage providing information about investor (or analyst) expectations regarding firm''s future earnings. This book should be useful to professionals in Financial Economics, especially to those interested in Behavioral Finance in stock markets, but also to equity analysts, traders or investors interested in the stocks'' response to earnings news.
Containers which arrive in the port of Rotterdam are transported all over Europe and vice versa. Intermodal transportation should improve transportation of goods over longer distances. This paper will try to solve the question: ¿what is the optimal distance to the port of Rotterdam for an inland container terminal?'' In doing so, first the hinterland has to be defined. Here, figures about the geographical hinterland and cargo flows of the port of Rotterdam will be shown. Furthermore, one has to have a clear perception of what exactly is intermodal transportation. A clear description of the concept with economical implications is provided in the second section. After important definitions, factors determining an inland terminal''s location will be researched, where after the optimal location to the port of Rotterdam can be decided. The study aims at providing an insight in the advantages of intermodal transportation for a seaport and is expected to provide an idea about how to decide where an inland transport terminal should be located in the optimal situation.
