Dialogues on Revelation with John the Apostle presents an imagined dialogue between the author and John the apostle, who just received a revelation from the Lord Jesus. Is it possible to know what John might have answered to some of our questions about the book of Revelation? It is possible since we have John's Gospel, three of his epistles, and the Old and New Testaments. Would we receive the answers from John that we hope for or expect? Would we want more answers or different answers? I don't doubt that this will be the case, for, as the apostle Paul exclaims, "Oh the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!" (Romans 11.33). Yann Opsitch addresses how the book of Revelation can help us view things from the perspective of eternity and of heaven. The heavenly perspective shown to John is one full of expectation and hope. However, the earthly perspective is often one of pain and struggle. John himself was exiled on Patmos and wrote to the churches in Asia who were undergoing difficulties both internal and external. He writes that he is their "partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus" and who "was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus" (Revelation 1.9). The book contains 21 chapters, including "Fear Not," "The Son of Man," "A Door to Heaven," "The Great Tribulation," "The Mark of the Beast," "Armageddon," and "The Water of Life."

  • - 365 Days to Learn, Meditate and Pray from the Psalms and the Sermon on the Mount
    av Yann Opsitch
    431,-

This book helps readers develop the discipline of coming each day before the Lord in a quiet place for the renewal of their faith, hope, and love through the Lord Jesus. Drawing its title from Psalm 95.2 ("Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving"), it contains readings for 365 days of the year, divided into 52 sections (weeks). Each day's reading includes a scripture from the Psalms or the Sermon on the Mount, focus on a specific topic, a discussion of its meaning, and a prayer. The topics addressed include "Trusting God", "Nations", "Parents", "Babies and children", "Heaven", "Angels", "Being Salt and Light", "The Narrow Way". Along the way, Yann Opsitch encourages thanksgiving as a vital part of the life of the believer, as well as an openness to His Word and a desire to grow in knowledge and understanding of God's Word.

  • - Fifteen Leaders Survey Their Past and Envision the Future of Churches of Christ

    328,-

In thriving churches, the leadership would include ministers, but also might include medical doctors, attorneys, business men and women, teachers, carpenters, judges, accountants, nurses, bakers, and so on. For three years, the Thomas H. Olbricht Christian Scholars' Conference undertook to ask fifteen well-respected senior leaders in the Churches of Christ to tell their own stories of their history into positions of leadership and influence. Each was also asked to articulate his or her vision for the future of Churches of Christ. All authors are beyond age seventy, all have terminal degrees in their field, and all have stayed within the fellowship of Churches of Christ. They include Fred D. Gray, Carolyn Hunter, Lynn Anderson, John T. Willis, and eleven others. These essays witness to the shaping work of God in the lives of notable church leaders, and perhaps also give hope to the readers for seeing God's work in their own lives.

  • av Chuck Miller
    256,-

Miller brings a lifetime of experience in child care ministry, prison ministry, Christian camping, counseling, teaching, and preaching. From the Arkansas hills to the streets of Chicago and from Statesville prison, to a rich family legacy, Charles Miller invites us to travel with Lady Wisdom in the fear of the Lord.Fear of Eden is unlike any book you have read. Miller is intensely serious about living according to the Word of God. He first sets out basic Biblical narratives that tell of what God has done and how he expects humans, made in his image, to react. From here, Chuck turns to Proverbs and Psalms to discover God's basic instructions for life. These two Biblical works contain the wisdom of God. Chuck stresses that according to the Word, fear is the beginning of wisdom. The person who really wants to know God's way needs to approach the God of the Bible in great awe and trembling because of his majesty. The fear of God and attention to wisdom are essential for spiritual formation and growth toward spiritual maturity. "Miller takes us on a journey back and forth through the Bible, especially Proverbs, showing us pieces we might never have seen before. Who imagined the animals looking back on Jesus as he cleansed the temple, or thought about the fear of Isaac under the knife on Moriah, or considered the "thunder boys" at Galilee, or realized that Balaam had God's ear, or known that Abraham was a good shepherd, but he was a better uncle, or that Epaphroditus is the essential "blue collar" Christian. We also hear about a game called "Pig and Farmer." Yet as we go on the journey we also tour our own lives only to find fear hiding in the most unusual and inappropriate places. Those fears are forced into the open by tour guide Miller. Part devotional book, part counseling session, part trip through the dark world of evil, part reflections of a seasoned spiritual leader, part autobiography, Fear of Eden may take you back to the garden where you need to be.¿¿" -Harold Shank, Ph.D.¿Minister, Author, Educator, ¿National Spokesperson for Network 1:27 (formerly Christian Child Care and Family Services Association)

  • - How to Study the Prayers of the Bible: A companion to the Praying Through the Bible series
    av Markus McDowell
    233,-

Enriching Your Prayers is a key companion to McDowell's expansive project, Praying Through the Bible. With the goal of studying every prayer in the Bible, this series explores Biblical prayer in their original contexts and then draws meaning from them for the purpose of expanding and enriching our own prayer practice. This book delves into each of the nine prayer types found in the Bible, studying their structure, content, and purpose, with examples of each. The latter part of the books delves into the method of study used in the series: a standard three-part method of Bible study that seeks to place the prayer in its original historical and linguistic context, examine its literary character, and then ask how it can be understood (and misunderstood) from our point of view. Whether you read this book as an introduction to the other Praying Through the Bible books, or read it later for more detail and application, Enriching Your Prayers is an excellent insight into the prayers of the Bible and how to use them in your own prayer life.

  • - Responsible Faith in a Post-Christian Culture
    av Ron Highfield
    218,-

In this book, veteran Pepperdine University professor of theology Ron Highfield makes the case for the truth of Christianity and defends it from attack. But so do many other books. Why do we need another? Because there are also plenty of books that deny Christianity's truth, attack it in new ways and from almost every conceivable angle! Hence the work of Christian evidences and apologetics is never done. Christian truth does not change, but contemporary culture and thought change almost daily. To communicate effectively with our contemporaries we must listen to them, come to understand their most basic beliefs and values and learn how to explain Christian faith to them in ways they can understand. This task is not easy to accomplish, and there is no shortage of failed attempts. Indeed, the Christian cause suffers almost as much from its friends as it does from its enemies. Many efforts to support and defend Christianity have done as much damage as good and created as much doubt as confidence in the Christian faith. Some arguments for Christianity overstate their case and understate the force of objections. Others try to prove too many things. Good thinkers from the time of Socrates until today know that making bad arguments in favor of a good cause is worse than silence. This book is full of good arguments.

This book taught me more about prayer and grew my prayer life more than any single resource I have found. Janet Severson (London)A unique study and devotional book on prayer-McDowell's knowledge of the prayers and ability to apply them to the practice of prayer is unparalleled. Jonathan Schneider (Tampa)Those of us who pray often feel that our prayers could do better. We might wish we prayed more often, or that the words of our prayers were better (whatever that means to us). Maybe we wonder if we are praying correctly. (We should remember that, since God is our Father, He is pleased if we talk to Him at all-even if it is infrequently or shallow.)Most of us never had anyone teach us how to pray. We mimicked what we heard from others. So we find ourselves saying the same things in the same way. We yearn for a way to enrich our prayers and add variety and depth. This book can help. Scripture contains hundreds of passages about prayer, with much richness and variety. Studying them is an excellent way to enrich our own prayers. This volume contains a chapter for each of the 40+ prayers in Genesis through Joshua. Each chapter includes the text of prayer passage, followed by a study of its background, an exploration of its meaning, and an application of what we learn. The introduction includes an exploration of studying the Bible and an overview of every type of prayer: praise, thanksgiving, petition, intercession, vow, confession, repentance, lament, blessing, and curse.Well-suited for either personal or group study and devotional.
