Thứ tự này không nhất trí giữa các bộ phái, tùy theo mức độ trọng thị đối với mỗi bộ.Phật giáo sau khi phân thành các bộ phái, mỗi bộ hầu như đều có riêng một hệ thống Thánh điển. Điều có thể nói hầu như khẳng định rằng tất cả các hệ Thánh điển này đều là phiên bản của một hệ Thánh điển nguyên thủy, mà các bộ cùng ghi nhận như nhau, được kết tập lần đầu tiên tại thành Vương Xá bởi năm trăm Đại A-la-hán. Đây được cho là hệ chính thống. Nhưng vẫn có nhiều dấu hiệu cho thấy một số ý kiến không nhất định thừa nhận toàn bộ Phật ngôn được kết tập bởi Đại hội này là hoàn toàn trung thực. Ý kiến tương phản giữa Đại Ca-diếp và Phú-lâu-na sau kết quả được công bố, như được ghi chép trong luật Tứ phần1, cũng như trong Tiểu phẩm Luật tạng Pāli, chứng tỏ điều này. Dầu sao, ý nghĩa chính thống cần được trọng thị, vì sự hòa hiệp của Tăng đoàn sau khi đức Phật tịch diệt.Hình thức Đại hội, cũng như nội dung kết tập, theo ghi chép trong các tài liệu Hán tạng và Pāli hiện có, trên đại thể đều nhất trí. Chính do điều này mà có thể tin tưởng rằng Thánh điển truyền thừa riêng biệt của các bộ phái xuất xứ từ một hệ nguyên thủy và được thừa nhận bởi đại đa số là chính thống. Tất nhiên một số khác biệt phải có, theo cách nhìn của mỗi bộ phái. Điểm khác biệt quan trọng cần nói ở đây, trước hết, là thứ tự các kinh.Một cách tổng quát, có hai loại thứ tự được ghi nhận: (1) Trường, Trung, Tạp, Tăng nhất: thứ tự này được ghi chép trong Luật tạng của các bộ Ngũ phần (Hóa địa bộ), Ma-ha-tăng-kỳ (Đại chúng bộ), Tứ phần (Đàm-vô-đức), và Pāli.(2) Tạp (Tương ưng), Trung, Trường, Tăng nhất: thứ tự ghi bởi Tì-nại-da tạp sự của Căn bản thuyết nhất thiết hữu bộ.Trung gian còn có những thay đổi...---Ghi chú 1.
