This book is primarily a guide for professionals and can be used by students of Dynamics. It features 96 real-life problems in dynamics that are common in all engineering fields; including industrial, mechanical and electrical. And it uses a special table guide that allows the reader to find the solution to each specific problem. The descriptions of the solutions of problems are presented in the chapters 3 to 18. The analysis of the structure of the differential equation of motion, as well as the analysis of the components that constitute this equation presented in the Chapter 1 allow readers to understand the principles of composing the differential equation of motion for actual engineering systems. Presents the straightforward universal methodology of solving linear differential equations of motion based on the Laplace transform. The table of Laplace Transform pairs presented in the Chapter 1 is based on reviewing numerous related analytical sources and represents a comprehensive source containing sufficient information for solving the differential equations of motion for common engineering systems. Helps determine the number of possible common engineering problems based on the analysis of the structure of the differential equation of motion, as well as on the realistic resisting and active loading factors that constitute the differential equation of motion. Each paragraph represents a standalone description. There is no need to look for notations or analytical techniques throughout the book. The book contains all required supplemental information for solving the problems.

None of the few Design for Reliability (DFR) books currently available addresses the process from the owners (or buyers) perspective. Instead, they approach DFR strictly from the sellers (or manufacturers) viewpoint. As a result, few assets are designed and developed with the intent to meet the future owners specific needs for reliability, availability, and maintainability over the life of the asset. In this groundbreaking new book, Dan Daley intends to correct the imbalance in how DFR is often implemented by providing owners with the tools they need to ensure that their requirements - not the sellers - are followed in developing new assets. This book will be an invaluable guide to everyone involved in the design, development, or purchase of new assets. It will help owners take the necessary steps to get what they really need, and it will help sellers deliver the goods that their customers the owners actually want.

In the field of maintenance, good problem-solving practices are among the most important elements to maximizing equipment uptime, and by resolving the root cause of the failure, in increasing equipment reliability. To be successful, an organization must be able to resolve the effects of a failure quickly so that it can go back to normal, and, in some cases, determine the cause of the failure so that a permanent solution can be identified and implemented. These are two distinct requirements (troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis), with distinctive requirements. Both are important, and one cannot exist without the other if we want to be efficient and effective in resolving asset failures. This work takes a unique approach to equipment failure-related problem solving by presenting both types of failure resolution techniques, the purpose of each, and describing how best to use them. In presenting root cause failure analysis, the book distinguishes between information gathering and failure analysis. It provides five information gathering methods and three root cause analysis methods from the 5-Whys to Logic Tree Analysis to Single Functional Failure RCM. It follows a structured approach to managing the RCFA, from stabilizing the site and gathering information, to implementing and sustaining the results, to leveraging the solution. This book provides practical methods and tools needed to achieve problem-solving goals and objectives, both when troubleshooting a problem as well as when determining a permanent solution. All of this information is kept to a concise and extremely readable length and format. The market needs a practical troubleshooting and RCFA guide that is not software specific and that provides a clear, structured approach to both. This work is that rare find.  FeaturesExplores problem solving as a science.Focuses on how to help an organization be successful, both at quickly getting the plant back in operation, and defining permanent solutions. The only book to detail troubleshooting and RCFA under the same cover.J R Paul Lanthier, P. Eng., is a facilitator, practitioner, trainer, coach, mentor, project manager, practice lead, Director, VP of Operations, and President. He has worked in the fields of asset management, organizational engineering, reliability and maintenance at all levels in various industry sectors worldwide. Paul is the former Director of ‘The Aladon Network,’ and leader for RCM2, as well as former Director of Reliability Services at Ivara Corp. As a professional Engineer with nearly 40 years’ experience, he is a recognized technical leader in the field of asset management and an author of multiple books.Introduction to Problem Solving; Part I: UNDERSTAND FAILURES: Understanding Failures.
