  • av Richard Georgiou

After eleven years, Richard finally felt he possessed the necessary skills to put his first, and most adventurous trip yet, down on paper. This is his story. This is a book about a rather ordinary man who had an extraordinary adventure. At thirty-seven, Richard wanted excitement so embarked on a month-long, solo motorbike ride from England to Morocco and back. What he didn't realise was that he was about to get a little more excitement than he bargained for. He was shot at somewhere around the Morocco/Algeria border, he rode through a minefield, completely lost his way in the blistering fifty-degree heat of the desert, got blind drunk in Alicante and cartwheeled his bike down the road in Ibiza. He also experienced many wonderful characters, moments of pure joy, intense emotion and enlightenment that changed him as a human. This book is not only about his adventure, but also about Richard's progress as a person and his battles with his past.

  • - Pioneer of Reservoir Fly Fishing
    av Adrian V W Freer
    119,-

This book is dedicated to the life, the artificial flies, the pioneering techniques in stillwater nymph fishing and ultimately the angling legacy of Dr Howard Alexander Bell (1888-1974) of Wrington, Somerset. Dr Bell regularly fished Blagdon Lake in the years following WW1 where he sought to devise better methods of catching reservoir trout. As a result of his enquiring and scientific mind Dr Bell did not follow the standard practice of the day of employing 'attractor' patterns but rather he studied the creatures that the fish were targeting and endeavoured to design artificial patterns which replicated them, and retrieved them in a manner which mimicked their progression through the water. He was probably the first angler to implement such an imitative approach to reservoirs and his Blagdon Buzzer is the forerunner of the multitude of buzzer artificials employed today. Includes 95 black & white illustrations and 5 maps

As humans, our thought processes, actions and reactions, outcomes and the psychological effects of our fear experiences influence our beliefs, ethics, lifestyle and other factors. These life changing experiences and factors determine our behaviour in communication and interaction with our environment, whether logical or illogical. As we grow, learn and develop our own environment, we choose to avoid, confront, ignore or learn to live with our fears. Our ability to climb, ride, fly, jump, drive, solve equations and problems, sleep alone, sleep in the dark, walk in the dark, be alone and coexist with others are all signs of us understanding and dealing with our fears. The most intriguing part of our lives is that we voluntarily believe that our fear is a major problem and a hindrance to us making our goals attainable. We activate our liberation, wisdom and courage to handle all our fears and get better results from them when we educate ourselves about our fears, know how to work through them and change our attitude towards them.We become completely powerful in our own fear when we are able to retrace our steps, and listen to our minds by paying attention to our own emotions and reactions to see the result for what it is rather than what others say it should be. Reading this book will help us put our fear reactions in context, reflect on our reactions which are birthed from situations of perceived fear, and dissect the often unrecognised counter-reactions to fear that make our situation affect our actions.
