Written in 1603, 'Othello' is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, an English playwright, poet, and actor. He is widely considered the most splendid writer in the English language and the world's most remarkable dramatist. It is set in the contemporary Ottoman-Venetian War fought for the control of the Island of Cyprus, since 1489 a possession of the Venetian Republic. The play examines the difficult position held by Moorish general, Othello after he secretly marries Desdemona, a Senator's daughter. Desdemona falls victim to a spiteful plot, as jealousy, accusations, and betrayal lead the characters down a violent path. As a 'Moor', Othello is notably portrayed as a dark-skinned leading character, though his ethnic origin remains ambiguous. Based upon a 16th-century short story entitled 'A Moorish Captain' by Italian novelist and poet Cinthio, 'Othello', masterfully dramatizes the miserable consequences that can arise from jealous deceit. First published in 1788, 'The Federalist Papers' is a collection of 85 articles and essays by Alexander Hamilton, an American revolutionary, statesman, and Founding Father of the United States. Appeared as a series of letters to New York newspapers encouraging voters to approve the proposed Constitution of the United States. Still hotly discussed and open to often contentious understandings, the arguments first presented here by three of America's greatest patriots and political theorists were created during a critical moment in our nation's history, providing readers with a running ideological commentary on the crucial issues facing democracy. The Papers offer a detailed outline of the separation of powers and how political power has to be used within extreme limitations in order to prevent the people from having to give up their freedom and rights as citizens. Today, the Federalist Papers are as important and vital a rallying cry for freedom as ever. First published in 1899, 'The Interpretation of Dreams' written by Sigmund Freud, presents the theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation and discusses what would later become the theory of the Oedipus complex. Sigmund Freud is an Austrian neurologist and the founding father of psychoanalysis, a method for treating mental illness and also a theory that explains human behavior. Freud believed that events in our childhood hold a great impact on our adult lives, shaping our personality. In creating psychoanalysis, Freud designed therapeutic techniques such as the use of free association and discovered transference, establishing its central role in the analytic process. Freud saw that man is at war with himself and often unable to tolerate too much reality. He propounded the theory that dreams are the contraband representations of the beast within man, smuggled into awareness during sleep. In Freudian interpretation, the analysis of dreams is the key to unlocking the secrets of the unconscious mind. Holmes believed that science, philosophy, and religion could all be connected for the betterment of each individual. He believed that God's action and will occurred in the present and that with each and every choice a person makes, they are creating the Eternal Now. 'The Prince' is a 16th-century political treatise written by Niccolò Machiavelli, an Italian diplomat, author, philosopher, and historian who lived during the Renaissance. It is the most well-known book on politics ever written and remains as vibrant and astonishing today as when it was written. The treatise is not representative of the work published during his lifetime, but it is the most recognized, and the work responsible for bringing 'Machiavellian' into wide usage as a pejorative term. It has also been suggested by some critics that the piece is, in fact, a satire. Originally denounced as a collection of sinister maxims and a recommendation of tyranny, it has more recently been supported as the first scientific treatment of politics as it is practiced rather than as it ought to be practiced. Widely cited in the press and in academic publications, it has direct applicability to the issues of business and corporate governance encountering global corporations as they enter a new millennium. The reference to the Antichrist is not intended to refer to the biblical Antichrist but is rather an attack on the ""slave morality"" and apathy of Western Christianity.
'A Theory of Human Motivation' is the article that foremost introduced the hierarchy of needs by Abraham H. Maslow, an American psychologist. First printed in Maslow's 1943 paper, it is a motivational theory in psychology incorporating a five-tier model of human needs, often portrayed as hierarchical levels within a pyramid. Maslow outlined a new approach to comprehending the mind, saying humans are inspired by their need to fulfil a series of hierarchical needs, starting with the most essential first. His theories parallel many theories of human developmental psychology, some of which concentrate on describing the stages of growth in humans. He thought it is important for the advancement of psychology to identify, group, and rank them in terms of priority. It remains highly effective in the fields of strategy, marketing, and management, where it is believed that his ideas can lead to more elevated productivity if applied to the running of organizations.
