Since the very formation of the United States, millions of people have entered this great nation as pilgrims, refugees, entrepreneurs, opportunists, nomads, missionaries, and pioneers as eloquently noted by sapient author Cole P. Zail in his AMAC Magazine Summer 2018 article "Immigration: Solidarity, Identity, and the American Dream."At its core, America is a country that unites people, however vast their differences may be, in the pride and exceptionalism of being able to call oneself an American. In a country made up of people from every race and nationality on earth, it's pertinent we preserve the significance of legal immigration, assimilation, and the process of becoming a naturalized American citizen. While we should celebrate our unique differences, we should, perhaps more importantly, celebrate the fact that we have joined together and blended ourselves into one nation, in spite of these vast differences. America's Founding Fathers were wise; they knew that our national strength could be preserved through unity. However, individuals who are not citizens do not have a right to American citizenship without the consent of the American people. As such, e pluribus unum exemplifies this unity and distills the essence of the United States, highlighting how we are a nation of individuals united by shared ideas and values, rather than by race or origin. Our populace is not bonded together by blood or birthplace, rather, we are united by our adherence to mutual values and our commitment to the Constitution. Becoming an American citizen has nothing to do with ancestry or ethnic identity; being American is a state of mind and a devotion to beliefs. This spirit of unity, this celebration of American citizenship, this shared faith in a national ideal-this is the true majesty of our great nation. Unfortunately for America and its legalized citizens-illegal immigration does not abide by these ideals-and its inherent costs to America's taxpayers, its assault on the core principles of the American Dream, and its disregard of American immigrations laws-all present clear and present dangers as this textbook will clearly, concisely and factually demonstrate.

Liv Finne, a former adjunct scholar now serving as Director of the Center for Education at Washington Policy Center, has been analyzing education policy for the past 13 years. Her research suggests the unmistakable decline in the literacy of America's students from fourth to twelfth grade due to lower expectations and the shift in focus from academic excellence in mathematics, science, reading, and history toward the implementation of woke Progressivism and social justice constructs like critical race theory (CRT).Government data for 2019 shows the average fourth grader has a 41 percent proficiency level in mathematics. By the eighth grade, the proficiency level drops to 34 percent. By the twelfth grade, America's students have an average math proficiency level of only 24 percent. In reading, fourth graders have an average proficiency rate of 35 percent. By eighth grade, the proficiency level drops to 34 percent, and by the twelfth grade, America's average student shows only a slight proficiency improvement to 37 percent. In writing, the proficiency levels are 28 percent in fourth grade with eighth and twelfth graders sharing a score of 27 percent.America's students fare worse in science, with fourth-graders having only a 36 percent proficiency rate and eighth-graders dropping to 35 percent. Twelfth-graders have only a 22 rate of proficiency in science. The worst scores come in history, with fourth-graders starting out with only 20 percent proficiency and dropping to 15 percent by the eighth grade. By grade 12, America's students have a paltry 12 percent proficiency level in history.Rather than develop curriculum that provides students with the qualifications needed to graduate high school, Finne says the education system has opted to lower the bar of academic standards. This new push by the school system to abandon efforts of academic achievement and shift toward woke social constructs like CRT is an effort to hide the fact that they have failed in their jobs to educate our children. "The whole idea is that if the community knew that their schools are not educating their children to basic levels they would rise up," Finne said. And now they are notes Moms for Liberty and other parental rights groups. The failure of our educational system goes beyond what they fail to teach. It includes what they do teach, or rather indoctrinate, and the graduates they send out into the world, are incapable of seriously weighing alternatives for themselves or for American society.

Our easy to use and comprehensive winery guide that has no equal. We believe you're the best critic, so we provide you with the most essential and up-to-date information for each winery, so you can make your own wine touring and tasting decisions. ¿¿The South Coast wine region stretches from San Diego County and the border of Mexico on the south to Ventura County in the north. Today, every single county in Southern California has vineyards and wineries to check out. Visitors to the South Coast region's 200 plus wineries should keep in mind that the wine grape varietals that grow in cooler areas on the coast are often quite different than those grown in warm inland valleys-so be sure to try wineries across the region! The South Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) includes grape-growing areas in six counties: San Diego, Riverside, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino. While there are microclimates throughout these counties that depend on your exact elevation and distance from the ocean, generally the South Coast boasts warm weather cooled down by coastal breezes. This is the perfect climate for Chardonnay, the grape of choice in Southern California. Zinfandel also thrives in the area, and some very old Zinfandel vines are still being used. You can also find high-quality Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon produced in the region. Winemakers in the area are also experimenting with Rhone and Iberian grapes like other areas of California. The South Coast wine region is further south than the wine regions in Europe, and in fact is closer in latitude to wine-producing regions in North Africa. While there are some vineyards in the warmer, inland valleys in the region, most vineyards in the South Coast are closer to the coast. The cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean helps to ensure that the grapes do not dry out. While most vineyards in the region are to the west of the Sierra Pelona Mountains, closer to the Pacific Ocean, there are some notable exceptions. Vineyards in this hot, dry part of California need something to lower the temperature. While the breeze from the Pacific Ocean does this for most vineyards, some use high elevation to lower the temperature instead.

In the 21st century, an ever growing number of academic Progressives have innovated in ideology, jettisoning the economic class struggle of Marxism and replacing it with identity classes: gender, race, sexuality, religion, nationality, and ableness. Now it's (allegedly) whites (including "white adjacent" Asians and "hyperwhite" Jews), males, and Christians who are oppressors-and people of color, women, LGBTQ++, Muslims, and the disabled who are the oppressed victims. With the "social justice" trinity of "diversity, equity, and inclusion," academic Progressives have returned us to the days of deep Jim Crow, with some races seen as virtuous and others as evil, the only difference being that the colors have changed. Progressive "inclusion" means including preferred races and genders, and excluding the others, as we see in hiring, college admissions, funding, promotions, and awards. Equity, meaning the statistical equivalence of races and genders, in practice means more of the preferred and fewer of the despised. Objective measures, such as standardized tests, and advanced education programs, are being cancelled by the academy, because they don't produce the desired "equity" results. Now institutionalized DEI racism and discrimination are regarded as desirable by so-called Progressive academia, as long as preferred categories benefit.Enough of this madness! Now is the time to wake up to this enormous problem before we do even graver damage-not only to ourselves individually but to our country as a whole. It's a bitter irony that those academics and their proponents who want to drive us into this new hysteria often claim to be "woke." But there is no awakening in woke. It's the sleep of reason that produces monsters, and it poses a profound peril to our republic.
