I WANTED TO CREATE A STORY THAT WOULD TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY AND I WANTED TO CREATE SOME NEW CARECTERS. EVEN THOUGH AS YOU READ THIS PEICE YOU WILL FIND THAT IT IS MOSTLY BASED ON THE ONE CHARECTER AND THAT IS BENJAMIN. EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE A COUPLE MORE CHARECTERS AS YOU ENTER THE JOURNEY OF THE STORY. I THINK THAT THE STORY IN ITS SELF IS NEW AND MY IDEA IS A FRESH ONE. THIS STORY IS NOT MENT TO SCARE YOU BUT IF ANYTHING ENLIGHTEN YOU AND I THINK ITS A GOOD ADVENTURE FOR THE CHARECTERS IN THIS BOOK. THE CHARECTERS ARE ALL OLD UNIVERSITY FRIENDS WHICH FOR ME SETS THE FEELING OF THE BOOK AND THE SCENE.

Born in 1933, Tom Short retains a phenomenal memory. This has been extended by thorough research, creating a unique family and local history, almost exclusively centred on a small rural area of North Buckinghamshire, England. The exploits of an eclectic mix of past family members back to the mid-1800s are explored, including a great grandfather transported to Tasmania for little more than drunken behaviour, a grandfather who was landlord of a village pub for 47 years, and the homicide of a great uncle during a petty argument. Experiences of men who fought during WW1 are described, including Tom's dad who was with a yeomanry cavalry regiment, The Royal Bucks Hussars, taking part in the last mounted charge of the British army. Tom's mum as a young woman had the then novel opportunity of working in the far east. Tom was raised on a pre-mechanised family farm near Stewkley, and was aged 6 when WW2 began. An RAF airfield was built on an adjoining field. Despite his young age, he did his bit for the war effort. Memories of plane crashes, bombings, and adapting to war conditions show that the fear of invasion was as real for country people as it was for those in the towns and cities. Contemporaneous council records and a family diary confirm the events. Aged 12, following the war, Tom spent much time at the now famous Bletchley Park.'The story' summarises Tom's life, the many societal changes that have taken place, and the interesting acquaintances he has encountered. One chapter details his time as village pub landlord in Whaddon, another his lifelong involvement with horses and horse racing. Real life crimes are mentioned, as are suspected ghost activities. The book is full of nostalgia, poignancy, and humour.

More often than not names like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr drown out the real stories of the African American fight for freedom during the mid twentieth century. However, by resurrecting and researching the unknown stories and truths of this history it has revealed surprisingly interesting tales that not only speak about the past, but speak to the present and the future. This book highlights how the emergence of a black popular music form - rhythm & blues and soul - was substantially influential to the black freedom struggle of the mid-twentieth century. From Detroit's 'Motown' label, producing artists such as the Supremes, that eroded racial barriers and became the most successful black business ever to exist. To Memphis' 'Stax' label, that proved that integration could not only work but thrive and that southern race relations were evolving. Both labels played unique and interesting roles in the Black fight for freedom and are the epitome of how black music and its cultural politics is the perfect representation of the community spirit, collective identity, and the dreams of the ordinary that permitted the achievements of the African American civil rights movement.

Eric Wetherell led a varied and rewarding career. After his student days at Oxford and the Royal College of Music, he became an orchestral horn player for various orchestras. In the late 50s he was a repetiteur with the Royal Opera House where he worked closely with Britten, Solti, Giulini, Sargent and Kempe whom he admired above all. As assistant musical director with Welsh National Opera he worked on most of the large grand operas. At the first performance by the Welsh National Opera in Bristol in 1968, Eric conducted 'Rigoletto'. Ken Loveland (The Times) wrote "Eric Wetherell's conducting, tense, tightly controlled, and completely informed about all the dramatic stresses which make this Italian opera's first really great score, was a foundation on which a convincing stage performance could grow..." (Eric was invited to the WNO's 50th anniversary production at the Bristol Hippodrome in 2018). During his time as principal conductor of the BBC Northern Ireland Orchestra and senior producer for BBC Radio 3 in the South West, he was in the position to play an enormous range of music from light classics and jazz to Haydn and Strauss within a single recording session. A lover of film all his life, he extended his composition skills to writing film music, in particular when he was Musical Director for Harlech Television in Wales and the South West. He went on to produce short films which he edited himself, and film scripts based on subjects that held a great interest for him. An excellent and enthusiastic jazz man, he led two jazz orchestra in South Wales and, later, in Bristol. He also enjoyed playing as part of a jazz quartet, particularly enjoying the informality of pub gigs. His love of humour and his many anecdotes, often true stories from his professional career, endeared him to the many people he came in contact with.

G W Hawker, author of Inside the Seventh Wave."Essence of Weymouth." Kathy Sharp, author of The Larus books, The Chesil Apothecary and others in the Quirky Tales series."I loved your book, it struck the perfect chord, with a real local flavour and one that could invoke [local] memories, even more so now Covid has changed things. HelloMy name is Sandra, I'm an Author, Award Winning Children's Entertainer and Mum of 2. "How to host the perfect kids party" contains over 30 tips for success! It is aimed at reducing stress and putting the adults in the driving seat with all the skills and knowledge they will need to host a successful kid's party.I have over 20 years experience of organising and delivering events and am a leading children's entertainer based in Leeds with my own YouTube Channel and Face Book Group. One of the things I noticed when chatting to my customers was that the same questions kept arising and I also noticed that parents were making the same mistakes at parties I attended. I was constantly being told by new customers that this was their first big event and that they had no idea what they were doing. This lack of knowledge has provided me with the perfect opportunity to plug the hole in the market. Plus, I have already been chatting to mums about my book and they have told me they cannot wait to get a copy and that it's a brilliant idea.My book is comprehensive and covers all aspects of a party from RSVPs which is often a thorn in my customer's side causing them a lot of frustration to food hygiene and safety issues. I also cover disability, first aid, invitations, risk assessments down to the minutia aspects of the party e.g. don't forget to take matches to light the candles on the birthday cake. This is often forgotten and causes parents stress as someone, usually dad, is asked to rush out and grab some matches from a local store or garage. I also cover potential hazards at a party e.g. the importance of cutting certain food types in half to prevent a child from choking. My neighbour has 3 children and she said "well done, send me the details". Colleagues at school have said this book is exactly what they need.I know you'll find my book useful and I hope you enjoy reading it.Have fun creating the perfect party and enjoy the process!Sandra
