Long before the manger in Bethlehem, beginning with the writings of Moses and the prophets, God began to reveal the greatest promise to humanity- to defeat sin through the sacrificial mission of his Son. These Christmastime contemplations focus on the coming of Jesus Christ, and we hope the reflections may help you know God's promised Messiah.Perhaps you know well not only the old familiar story of Christmas, but also the grand saga of Scripture and how Christmas fits into God's eternal purposes for humanity. To this group of readers, our prayer is that our God would use these short daily devotional thoughts to tune our hearts to greater praise, adoration, and worship of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. May this book be an encouragement to live for the glory of Christ, and a help to you in sharing the glorious gospel of our risen Savior and proclaiming the coming of his heavenly kingdom to this earth.

These daily studies are generally divided into those occurrences found in the Old Testament and those found in the New Testament. Within that divide, related names are sometimes grouped together, and at other times the names are treated in alphabetical order. In a few instances, a single passage of Scripture may include multiple names, epithets and/or descriptions of God, and these are treated together in sequence. It would be impossible to be absolutely consistent apart from a pure alphabetical order or in order of first mention in the Bible, but those approaches seemed overly arbitrary. Occasionally these meditations have drawn from outside sources. Where that happens, we have given appropriate citations. At times abbreviations helped us with space management. For example, TWOT stands for the "Theological Word Book of the Old Testament" by R.L. Harris, G. L. Archer Jr., B. K. Waltke (Eds), (Chicago: Moody Press). The usual abbreviations of English versions are used, for example, NASB (which is the default version used in these meditations), NIV, ESV, etc. Most readers should be familiar with these. Also, another convention adopted for the sake of space is referring to the Old Testament and the New Testament as "OT" and the "NT" respectively.

If you have been looking for an in-depth discussion of what the Bible says concerning financial matters then this book is for you. This book does not attempt to cover personal financial material ably covered by other books in the world but focuses on the Christian and biblical perspective concerning personal financial matters so sorely lacking in most books on personal finance available on the market. This book fills a void left by the world's books, which may be quite good in understanding how things work in the physical realm of financial tools, but have nothing that conveys the spiritual perspective that is important to the Christian seeking to do God's will. The reader will be richly blessed to be brought to the Bible time after time to find what God has to say about this very important area of our lives. It should be a help on your journey.
