  • - Discovering the Motivation Behind Who You Are and What You Do
    av Jean-Marc Louise
    161,-

About the Book Have you ever thought, "what makes us tick?" or "why are we wired a certain way?" Have you ever compared yourself to your siblings and wondered why you are so different in personality and have different interests and desires? Yet, you were born of the same parents, given the same upbringing and been taught the same principles and practices of life as they? Have you ever noticed why you and your spouse are on different wavelengths and never seem to see eye-to-eye on the way you do things? As much as you try to change how they are to how you would like them to be, it never works out. Have you ever recognised what you are good at and what motivates you to action as compared to those around you who do not feel moved in the same way? Have you ever considered why colleagues excel effortlessly whilst you have to apply yourself far more in the same discipline or in the same line of work to reach the same goal? Or perhaps, you have found yourself gravitating towards certain types of people whilst avoiding others who appear incompatible with you in character. So much of what we are in person can be attributed to the motivational gifts that exist within the makeup of our personality. These gifts not only define who we are, but crucially, it unveils the truth behind what motivates us to engage in the complexities of life. My hope and prayers are that you, the reader, would fully grasp the importance of motivational gifts and understand their underlying influence in our lives. Secondly, I hope it will teach you tolerance of others, particularly those who are motivated differently from you. Finally, you will learn to identify the gifts that reside in others and, by doing so, draw from their strength, particularly in the areas where you lack. Each believer in Christ should aim to become like Jesus, who functions in all the gifts in perfect equilibrium.

Ten Philosophical EssaysBy: Kamal A. ShlbeiThis book contains ten philosophical essays written from 2008 to 2010 as part of the prerequisites for writing a dissertation to obtain a doctoral degree in the Department of Philosophy at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. These essays vary in their philosophical themes and historical periods. In the first essay, we stand at the problem of the thing-in-itself as raised by the German philosopher Immanuel Kant and the criticisms leveled at it by the philosophers who followed it.The second essay reveals the dialectical relationship between value theory and theory of knowledge in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit. The third essay exposes the forgetfulness into which Deleuze fell when he neglected the study of Jacobi and Suarez on the subject of individual ontology. The fourth essay reveals the internal relations between the concepts of domination, power, and knowledge in the context of Foucault's intellectual development from the stage of archeology to the stage of genealogy to the stage of self-care.The fifth essay explores Al-Farabi's philosophical view of happiness, which, although it seems parallel to Aristotle's understanding, has its own Islamic character. The sixth essay deals with the thesis of essence and existence in Aquinas' On Being and Essence. The seventh essay presents the problem of the unity of intellect between Averroes and Aquinas, in light of the controversy taking place in the Middle Ages over the ontological proof of God. The eighth essay examines the relation between justice of law and law of justice according to Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. The ninth essay returns to the problem of essence and existence, but in its modern philosophical dimension, as it was manifested in Kierkegaard's existential philosophy through his book Philosophical Fragments. The tenth essay presents Marx's criticism of Hegel in the light of historical materialism.

The world as you know it has gone. Destroyed by a virus so virulent people died where they fell, and skeletons are simply scattered across the ground. Now strangers have arrived and decided to build their home where yours once stood. You must choose; help or force them to leave. Your decision will change the future irrevocably. America, as we know it today, came precariously close to not existing; the tipping point was the arrival of one man, the much-travelled Squanto, who became the fragile link between a group of starving English refugees, Shakespeare's London and the native population. Nearly 400 years later, Sir Ian McKellen is giving a lecture on Shakespeare in America, when a member of the audience shows him a signature that piques his interest. A few words on old parchment take him on a voyage back in time, that completely overturns everything he thought he knew about the origins of Thanksgiving. A visually spectacular story, massive in scope that revisits the debate about refugees, not only from a historical perspective but around the very issues that confront us today. The decisions our ancestors made were not just a reaction to what they were confronted with in the here and now but of what they wanted to happen tomorrow. The Pilgrims had a very particular vision of the new world they wanted to create, and the clashes between the vastly different perspectives of natives and refugees had an enormous long-term impact. This book is based on detailed research and all the historical characters from 1620 are real people. This novel simply asks questions about Squanto's travels and how several hundred years of interaction between America and Europe prior to 1620 would have influenced the fate of the Pilgrim refugees.About the AuthorLorna Dickinson is a British Television Producer and of particular interest to American readers will be her experience of working with artists such as Mel Brooks, Clint Eastwood, Katharine Hepburn, Paul Newman, Barbara Streisand and Dame Elizabeth Taylor. She also produced Party at the Palace for Her Majesty the Queen's Golden Jubilee, Live 8 from Hyde Park and created a special live production with Lord Julian Fellowes for The Children's Party at the Palace for Her Majesty's 80th Birthday.

  • - Trade & Treachery in Medieval Yorkshire
    av Frank D Macaulay
    281,-

It is 1370 in Yorkshire, England, late in the reign of King Edward III, and Sir James and his mercenary Companie have returned from the wars across the channel. The great nobles and the Church control the wealth and power in the land.    The thought of going back to servitude, attempting to claw a subsistence existence from the soil, is more than these veterans can bear. Instead, they parlay their war spoils into a trading network along the river system of the North and enter the lucrative wool trade.    Where there are profits there is intense competition and scrutiny from government officials keen to get tax revenues. The king’s ministers abuse their authority to enrich themselves and pursue old grudges. Now it is up to James and his Companie to use guile, influence, and sometimes brutality to fight back. Frank D. Macaulay lives in Columbus, Georgia, where he is enjoying retired life after working in consumer products for more than thirty years. Much of his free time is now spent renovating a 1926 Tudor Revival home.     Sir John's Companie was born of his interest in late fourteenth century feudal England. It is an intriguing time for a country that had yet to recover from the Black Plagues that wiped out almost half the nation's population, was still fighting the Hundred Years' War in France, and on the cusp of societal change with the emergence of a wealthy merchant class.

You know it's very difficult to regain trust after it's been shattered by someone you totally trusted. I still have great difficulty going into public places; my eyes don't move fast enough to watch everyone, and I hate anyone being behind me. I suppose that's what happens when someone who professes to love you and thinks how wonderful you are suddenly, five minutes after telling you that, attacks you from behind, stabs you, and almost kills you. Writing these poems brings me a lot of comfort even though sometimes I'm very upset writing the traumatic ones; it does take away the pain if only for a short while. So if in reading them I bring some comfort to the reader, I'm happy, I've done what I intended. So for all those very special people in the world who are trying to face horrible and nasty situations, here is Demons of the Mind but a Light Still Shines.
