A Report concerned with military reliefs in the Great Temple at Gebel Barkal in Nubia, the present Sudan (B 500), important battle scenes in the Great Temple's inner hall (B 502) and the outer one (B 501).

Focused on the myths and mythologies of European cultural history, this volume seeks to address the present and past functions of foundation texts in the evolution of the European idea. One of the specific objectives of this volume is to reconsider, in the context of ongoing European expansion and integration, the functionalist approach of Benedict Anderson, according to whom "imagined communities . . . are to be distinguished, not by their falsity/genuineness, but by the style in which they are imagined." The common denominator of each of the essays contained in this volume is the problem of the discontinuity of time in relation to tradition, cultural and individual memory, as well as in relation to historical and literary narratives. Time becomes "the locus of its own reflexivity: it is self-temporalized. It undergoes endless reiteration within itself, and needs a semantics which sets valid accents for specific moments." This collection of writings explores the theory and praxis of technicity in contemporary thought. From the ground-breaking explorations of such figures as Freud, Heidegger, Deleuze/Guattari and Derrida to the work of more recent theorists like Bernard Stiegler, Friedrich Kittler and Katherine Hayles, it is becoming possible to speak of a new "technological turn" in contemporary continental theory. Yet despite the plethora of work in the field there has not been any sustained attempt to think through the larger philosophical, cultural and political implications of the new technologies. In this collection, a group of internationally-known figures within the fields of philosophy, linguistics and cultural studies come together to consider the meaning of "technicity" at the beginning of the 21st century.
