Now more than ever before, we are living in a world that's highly interconnected and interdependent, which means an action in one place has a very real influence elsewhere. In Finding a Better Way, an unlikely duo explores ways in which Western society has become disconnected and how we might strive for a better future - not only for ourselves but for future generations. Finding a Better Way is a meeting of the minds between Michelle, a Generation Y female freelance editor, and David, a Generation X male who is a former technology executive turned business advisor. Writing from their vantage point in Australia, they discuss trends and ideas across four key themes: country, workplace, community and family. Their reflections are based on almost 200 pieces of research, but there are some points of difference between them that will make you stop and think. David and Michelle openly admit they do not have all the answers - and that is the point. They encourage you to reflect on what they have written and think about your own experiences and views. The book discusses everything from politics and short-termism to the rise of the gig economy and digital burnout. It also explores more sensitive topics, like depression and loneliness, as well as ideas of masculinity and femininity, the pursuit of work-life balance, and what it means to be a family in the 21st century. David and Michelle also highlight ways in which we might do things differently, individually and collectively, at times drawing on Scandinavian concepts such as Janteloven, niksen and hygge. As we step into an entirely new world, Finding a Better Way serves as a much-needed reference point of where we have been and, more importantly, where we are going.
Known to so many, and yet unknowable, was Frank Thring. Actor, bon vivant, professional flamboyant, withering critic. No one else could tell his story, so here it is, as if by his own hand. His boyhood as the son of a doomed movie mogul and a society charity matriarch, both former showies. His times in radio, theatre, Hollywood, TV and print. As immortal Australian iconoclast. At the end of his life, beset by the maladies he knows will soon claim him, Frank tells all. Of moviemaking, branded 'hatcheries of disasters.' Of Dennis Hopper, Mick Jagger, Charlton Heston, Sophia Loren, Kirk Douglas, Janet Leigh, Julie London, Tony Curtis, Jack Hawkins, James Mason, and Australia's best. Of sharing the stage with Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. Of this times with Noel Coward, John Geilgud, Orson Wells, Gore Vidal, Fellini, Edward Woodward, Chips Rafferty, Frankie Howerd. Of his three decades on Australian television, as critic, sidekick, guest and star. Of longer still at the Melbourne Theatre Company. And of the Frank deep beneath the loud, large one he confected. This tale the most intriguing of all.

This collection of art and poetry from Bee Williamson and Naomi Downie is a beautiful book for yourself or a gift for a loved one. The eight colour plates and other black and white images are, like the poems, evocative of female sexuality and spirituality. Bee Williamson, a Melbourne-based artist, chooses photography, mixed media and illustration to explore and celebrate the female form, particularly through dance. Bee likes to explore her own femininity, with a special affinity for flowers. She says "the process of making art is as important to her as the finished work itself. Art for her is meditation-in-action." Naomi Downie, an artist from Newcastle, has selected works from her collection that trace the journey of her search for meaning. She uses photography and mixed media to dive deep into the themes of myths, love and mystic visions gathered from her meditations. She says, "I love the mystery in the process of artmaking, the joy of being a part of the universal creative force. A gift of gratitude and communication for that which has no words." Both Bee's and Naomi's poetry have themes of intimacy, sexuality, identity and nature, and look at the deeper truths and legends surrounding women and spirituality. Bee has been writing poetry since she was fourteen and this book includes her first love poem! Poetry has always been her first response to the hardships of pain and trauma as well as to insights, the joys of friendship and a deep relationship to nature. Naomi is a performance poet whose work can be found in many magazines and Internet sites. "Poetry for me is a soul landscape, a continent to travel and guide others who dare across the scars and secrets of the heart's chamber. Poetry has been a vehicle to share with others the many faces of God I have seen and lived to tell the tale. "We hope you cherish this work and it inspires you to reveal your own hidden self."
In this new work, which intersperses the poetry with intimate drawings of her loved ones, she shares her poetic vision of the world, speaking with her innermost voice and the voice of nature. Included in this collection are earlier poems from her student years at the Victorian College of the Arts and other poems written during periods of mental illness. Rich in imagery and with a spiritual alchemy that draws on every faith from Sufi to Aboriginal, Torment & Soul is a visionary and sensual feast, both uplifting and challenging.
This book contains a collection of nature poems and art work, lovingly designed and crafted by Melbourne-based artist, Bee Williamson. The work huddles around her love of Nature, where she finds peace, joy and the inspiration to write and draw, deep within the source and solace of nature's gentle hand. Her grandfather, acclaimed nature writer Henry Williamson, encouraged Bee, through his undeniable spiritual presence, to reveal her deep expression and concerns within this work, her second published book, 'Nature - a gift'. The simple things of life matter to Bee - her soul embracing the beauty of a seed, a flower, a tree, a bird. This work is offered as a gift to the reader, an invitation to revel in simplicity where one can find a warm earthly heart beating: cushioned from modernity.

He says his daughter comes to speak to him while he is asleep. He finally decides to enlist Charles's help to reveal to the world the 'secret' of his daughter's story.
