A book about the emotions and emotional situations experienced as I moved into my retirement years. I found that other local retired folks that visited the coffee shop were experiencing similar feelings, like needing a sense of purpose and self-worth. I found that, just as I had done in my work environment, I needed to "work" at being happy in retirement. It just did not fall into place as I thought it would.
KENNEDY'S TWINS, the second novel in a trilogy that includes BLACK PRESIDENT (PICNIC PUBLISHING, UK ©2008), and BLACKMALE, follows the American Presidency of Jackson Little who, along with his brother John, were secretly fathered by President John F. Kennedy in 1961. When Jackson is assassinated, his identical twin John steps in, impersonating the President and taking the country in a new, radical direction. His unusual State of the Union speech, written and delivered without prior knowledge of the press, raises concerns about toxic lead levels in plumbing (still prevalent in depressed neighborhoods across America), exorbitant rents/general inflation, and the growing threat of US military buildup. The Little agenda is steadfastly anti-war, anti-Military Industrial Complex, anti-cronyism, and questions the effectiveness of the Federal Reserve banking system. With a risky speech, impostor-John attempts to alter the fatal direction in which, he believes, America is headed.

Book 7 in the Princelings of the East series sees Willoughby, nephew of Lord Mariusz of Hattan, succumb to his curiosity about the time tunnel. A quick trip to the other side sees him trapped in the Realms. He tells his own story of how he survived, learned a new occupation, and became part of Castle White Horse at the most dangerous time in its history. His adventures as a wall-runner and itinerant story-teller, or narrator, bring him to the attention of those in power, who need someone who can go anywhere and give them information. To spy, in fact. It's a tale of danger and double-dealing, lightened by Willoughby's stories, as told to his adoring public.Willoughby's tale starts at the tail end of Book 1, and reviews the events surrounding his first appearance in the series in Book 5; this book is best read after either of those two, but of course, the full sequence is best. Suitable for good readers aged ten and upwards, and essential reading for ninja story-tellers in troubled times.
Beautiful Joe tells the true story of a dog from Meaford, Ontario that had his ears and tail chopped off by an abusive owner as a puppy, but is rescued by a Meaford family whose lives he later saves. The story is written from the dog''s point of view, and is often compared to Black Beauty which was released a few years earlier. When the book was published, it received worldwide attention. It was the first Canadian book to sell over a million copies, and by the end of the 1930s over seven million copies were sold worldwide. About Beautiful Joe, Marshall Saunders commented, "I have had the honour of leading the old Ontario dog around the world on a chain of translations and rejoice in the report that he has become quite a propagandist for humanitarianism".

One of my friends tells me that you, little reader, will not like these old, old tales; another says they are too sad for you, and yet another asks what the stories are meant to teach. Now I, for my part, think you will like these Celtic Tales very much indeed. It is true they are sad, but you do not always want to be amused. And I have not told the stories for the sake of anything they may teach, but because of their sheer beauty, and I expect you to enjoy them as hundreds and hundreds of Irish and Scottish children have already enjoyed them-without knowing or wondering why.LOUEY CHISHOLM.
In Civil Warscapes: Images of American Sanctuaries, Eastern Theater 1861-1863, Matthew A. Holzman captures the scenery of the earliest significant battlefields in the Eastern Theater of the American Civil War. By specifically choosing photographs he has taken over the recent years, he highlights the various actions that ultimately shaped the outcome of these battles. The visual appearance of certain monuments and structures may very well be known by many who have visited and seen these locations, but the facts behind their meaning with relation to that given battle may not. The windows into these historic places reveal the dedication and destruction that took place on their hallowed grounds. They also display the natural beauty that surrounded unprecedented struggles over one hundred and fifty years ago. From the tranquil and clear water of Antietam Creek flowing under Burnside Bridge to the stone wall at the foot of Marye''s Heights, where perhaps no other display of valor was equaled during the war; from the magnificent farms surrounding Gettysburg to the distant views seen from atop converging mountains at Harpers Ferry. Holzman shares his vision of these fields of battle by presenting the critical events that transpired in the middle of their uniquely American landscapes.

Nutrition is the most important part of any diet. Our bodies need nutrients (Vitamins and Minerals) to function, to maintain itself and to be healthy. These nutrients come from the food we eat so it goes without saying that we need healthy nutritious food. I have written this book with that in mind and hope it will get you thinking about what you eat. With The Nutrition Diet you don''t have to count calories, worry about low fat, low carb, high carb, etc, things that can all make dieting a pain. It is a diet with straightforward healthy food. The book covers nutrition, digestion, diet etc which I hope is in a simple to understand way . Also included are tips on how to make your diet more varied and nutritious. Then there are lots of easy healthy recipes to help you get the nutrition you need. At the end are useful annexes including how nutrition is important for three of the most common problems in today''s modern world -aches and pains, stress and old age. I have tried to keep things simple without too much technical detail. There are plenty of more technical books but this book is meant to stress the importance of nutrition in a way that anyone can understand and realise how important nutrition really is.
