Rosa Campbell Praed (1851-1935), often credited as Mrs Campbell Praed (and also known as Rosa Caroline Praed), was an Australian novelist. Her large bibliography covered multiple genres, and books for children as well as adults. She has been described as the first Australian novelist to achieve a significant international reputation. Rosa had a passion for reading and writing from childhood. Many of her early experiences were used for the political and social life of her early books. In 1880 she published her first book, An Australian Heroine. This book was followed by Policy and Passion (1881), one of the best of her earlier books. A large proportion of her novels were based on her Australian experiences. Others dealt with the occult, with spiritualism, or with abnormal states of mind.

Henry Ernest Dudeney (10 April 1857 - 23 April 1930) was an English author and mathematician who specialised in logic puzzles and mathematical games. He is known as one of the country's foremost creators of mathematical puzzles. Although Dudeney spent his career in the Civil Service, he continued to devise various problems and puzzles. Dudeney's first puzzle contributions were submissions to newspapers and magazines, often under the pseudonym of "Sphinx." Much of this earlier work was a collaboration with American puzzlist Sam Loyd; in 1890, they published a series of articles in the English penny weekly Tit-Bits. Dudeney later contributed puzzles under his real name to publications such as The Weekly Dispatch, The Queen, Blighty, and Cassell's Magazine.

Jorge Agustín Nicolás Ruiz de Santayana y Borrás, known in English as George Santayana (1863 - 1952), was a philosopher, essayist, poet, and novelist. Originally from Spain, Santayana was raised and educated in the US from the age of eight and identified himself as an American, although he always retained a valid Spanish passport. At the age of 48, Santayana left his position at Harvard and returned to Europe permanently. Santayana is popularly known for aphorisms, such as "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it", "Only the dead have seen the end of war", and the definition of beauty as "pleasure objectified". Although an atheist, he treasured the Spanish Catholic values, practices, and worldview in which he was raised.

This work examines a biopolitical approach to issues of food, specifically hunger and overconsumption. It is studied throughout traumatic periods of history, intertwined with a contemporary ideological understanding of lifestyle, fashion, and wellbeing. The notion of food is understood not only in its material physical and nutritional dimension, but also in its strong symbolical meaning actualized in visual representation, rituals, texts, and memory. The performative aspect of ingestion gives a subject for thought about the role of affects as an alternative expressive channel with a capacity to reach deeper layers of veiled desires and intentions.

"The way we love." is an existentialist work of fiction that follows the narrative of an unnamed protagonist and her lover as she begins to recall memories of their past, from their first encounter to their last. Uncovering the reasoning behind his suicide, she becomes engulfed in a feeling of incompleteness-forced to combat her reality: how the worst of the other drew them together.Paralleling the vision of the individual within the metropolis, "The way we love." focuses on a close-quarter view that transcribes the traditional outlook of self-love and value; as it isn't our success or failures that defines our existence but our connection to others.
