This subconscious ploy into a humorous city enlivened by the diablo ghosts of another era is a soulful breather of incarnate words and post-modern identity; Emily Yew is a down-and-out Chinese American writer who is battling her Werther-like en situ in Funnyvale, where nothing is ever that funny. Propped up by her 80-year-old mother and her sister Audrey, Emily struggles with being "uncured," with dark, creative depressions, and revisited by romantic flashbacks from her primal youth. A shy, immature, reluctant young soldier finds himself on a darkened jet, making his descent onto an airfield in Vietnam. What Larry Long didn't realize, however, was that he was also descending into a hole of pot, booze, and pills-one that would take him years to escape. In this memoir, he looks back at his army service, beginning with the worst eight weeks of his life: basic training. During that time, he didn't make any friends or gain any self-confidence. All he did was long for home.Having received his draft notice, he was on that plane because he had to be-it was not about fighting communism or fighting for freedom. After experiencing the hell of war, he returned home and made friends with a co-worker who turned him on to something called amphetamines. The only problem was they prevented him from sleeping, but smoking marijuana solved the problem.Join the author as he recalls the evils of war and how the Lord transformed him from being someone whose body took him where he didn't want to go to a man whose spirit takes his body to where it is happy to go.
This book seeks to bring attention to our growing preoccupation with technology. Our overwhelming dependence upon this mode of existence has created some negative results. For example; it has diminished our intellectual skills, consumed too much of our time, become dangerously distracting, and more importantly, has taken priority over the things of God.These things are very evident in everyday life. Consequently we must see the potential danger of these signs, if not, we run the risk of committing the sin of idolatry - just like those who built the Tower of Babel!

'I'm Still Standing' is a book of poetry and short essays which are composed from personal accounts that occurred in my life as well as poems written about African American injustice. The first chapter oppressed is about what's occurring in the world today; police brutality, racial injustice, and social unrest. The following chapters are poems from my personal life's experiences in regards to molestation, family deaths, and poverty. Other chapters account my personal struggles with depression, thoughts of suicide amd domestic violence and my struggle with self. I'm Still Standing is written to inspire others who have gone through some of the same struggles I have in turn giving them hope in knowing that they're not alone. It is also written to encourage them to speak out about injustice and be a voice for those who can speak for themselves.
