Pankration-An Olympic Combat Sport is an illustrated reconstruction of the ancient Greek sport of pankration. This sport lasted over a millennium (from at least the seventh century BCE to the fourth century CE) and was the most popular event in the ancient Olympic Games. In pankration, well rounded fighters used whatever worked, with minimal rules, to respond to the circumstances of a specific competition and, with no restrictions, to fight in actual battle. The sport of pankration was effectively mixed martial arts competition, or-as Aristotle describes it-a combination of boxing and wrestling. There are considerations to reintroduce it in the modern Games. The book draws information on pankration from all the primary sources-from the literature and the products of the visual arts of antiquity. Volume I traces the origin and path of pankration in Greek mythology and history; addresses the physical and psychological characteristics of successful pankratiasts in antiquity; details the rules of competition; and discusses fighting style, specialization, and preparation of the ancient practitioners. Volume II describes in detail the fighting techniques employed in pankration, including the fighting stance, defensive moves, strategy and tactics, use of pressure points, strikes, locks, chokes, throws, and takedowns, as well as counters to these techniques. This book's comprehensive research renders it a reference for students of the topic of pankration and, more generally, of combat sport in ancient Greece. The book also provides practitioners and enthusiasts of combat sports/martial arts useful information and lessons from the ancient practice of pankration. It is valuable reading for those interested in modern mixed martial arts competition.Readers will find in the book both new information about the Western combat sport that preceded the development of the Asian traditions, and 100 admirable artistic representations of competition from ancient Greek vases and sculptures.

One of the Great Reset's goals is to destroy foundational beliefs and make us fearful, so we depend more on government, and in the process, we are losing more personal freedom because of their increased regulations. The News seems to convey everything as a crisis, but what is important to us doesn't seem to be a crisis to news reporters or the government. Rioting has caused much damage in some cities. Some district attorneys verbally attack the police methods, and they want to prosecute them for doing their job to protect citizens. Global warming is presented as a crisis, but the Bible says summer and winter will continue as long as the earth remains. Because many people believe in evolution and others feel God, if He exists, has deserted this world, nothing seems definite that we can count on. We feel isolated and unsafe; crime has increased. People are looking for a leader who will bring peace and safety. Many different things have been said about what will happen at the end of this world and Armageddon, and in this book, you will learn what the Bible actually says about it. The Lord sent His words through the prophets to be recorded for us, and the books of Daniel and Revelation have some future events told to us in symbols. If you were ever curious and wanted a comprehensive understanding of the meaning of what will happen, the symbols and the timeline are explained in detail with the Bible verses to confirm what is written. These questions are answered by the Bible: - What is the tribulation and how long does it last? Did the Bible give us exact days? What event will start the tribulation period? What happens during it? - Did God provide an escape? What is the Rapture? - What happens after Armageddon? Because the meaning of the two books have been sealed and kept secret, important Bible verses have been overlooked, and personal beliefs caused more than one misinterpretation. Now they are unsealed and revealed because we are in the time period which will bring the return of Jesus Christ our Savior!
Calliope, one of the seven Muses, befriends a lonely, troubled mountain girl named Sasha. She flies every evening to her window to visit her and share the latest gossip. They have much fun together! One day Calliope inherits a castle. What a castle it is!It was built on planet Z and uses an advanced technology, unknown on the planet Earth. It looks like a castle but it flies like a flying saucer! It is manned by thinking computer-robots, who learned how to decode the earthling's DNA, put the information on CDs and form the personal manuals for everybody. They even discovered the age gene. Nobody in the castle gets old.Calliope decides to invite Sasha and all the young and old poetesses she knows to the castle for a poetry contest. In the castle, Sasha meets Calliope's husband Madison and his son Fred, who are learning stuff from the computer robots. They experiment with cloning and genetic engineering, sometimes with bad results...The contest starts. Time to put on gowns and jewelry! Each poetess recites her best poems. Self-help classes are being held, while the castle flies them from one exciting place to another, from Asia to India, to Europe.Outside of the castle, the girls are guarded by Holibij, Calliope's body guard. Holibij is also a computer robot, in a form of a walking stick."He can feel all evil intention by his antennae extensions" and beware!...Sasha has so much fun on this trip! Fred becomes her best friend. She rides with him on an elephant's back in Asia, they drive a Tuk-Tuk together in India, and she watches his experiences. She inevitably falls in love with Fred...Scientific experiments (some scary), poetry contest and romance goes on, while the castle flies from one exciting place to another.

It is said that every person has at least one book in them. This must be my attempt at fulfilling this aspiration. This book has been brewing for many years and I am thankful that I inculcated the discipline of writing, polishing and saving each poem over the years. This anthology of poems represents snapshots from my life over many decades. It is also a tribute to the girls and women who have passed through my life. But it is not all autobiographical; much of my poetry has been conjured up from keen observation and a fertile imagination.
This collection of short stories is intended to illustrate a more humorous glimpse of a soldier's life in Vietnam. It's of the times when boredom and a fertile imagination often lead to amusing situations, rather than the "blood and guts" of combat. All the narratives in this book, saves one, are true, or at least were presented to the author as fact. Some are without a doubt true, as they happened to the author. Other Vietnam veterans related the remainder of the yarns, swearing that each and every detail was unquestioningly genuine. We all know that combat veterans do not lie but their memories may, nevertheless recall their experiences slightly altered from actual events. Perusing these stories the reader might logically conclude that ego or passing years might, just possibly, influence a few of the bone-chilling tales.GI's live through numerous happenstances that are not heroic but are embarrassing or mundane. No matter how cynical a GI becomes, some events, maybe only in retrospect, are viewed as ironic or downright funny. These random experiences are what the book are about.
Mum has a nasty habit of blowing boogies and sneezing into her hands instead of using a tissue. This habit puts mum in trouble several times as her boogies always come through faster than she could catch them and the boogies end up going on people. As a result of mum's nasty behaviour, mum is kicked off the bus, gets arrested at the supermarket and gets stranded as no taxi would take mum and her children home. Her children Gidibas and Verosy have had enough of their mum's constant embarrassment. Mum has to think about her nasty behaviour and how it is impacting on her children. She tries to get help, but will it work?
IN GRIED I FOUND GRACE is purposed to give hope and to encourage people that they are not alone in any challenge or trial that life may throw at them. Jesus said that in this life there will be tribulation (John 16:33). Even though we see many people looking good on the outside, their hearts may be full of sorrows, bitterness, and the pain of challenges. Therefore, it is important that we are prepared for challenging times; knowing how to deal with them, so that we are not overwhelmed by them. When you read this book, you will know that God did not create you to live in sorrow and sadness. Learn to walk in the grace of God no matter what challenges and trials may come your way. In this book, I give you insight into my personal story of my son's death, how I dealt with it, and the Ministry of the Holy Spirit and His Word in my successful healing journey. God's thoughts towards us are of peace and not of evil. He is watching over you. You do not need to walk through the valley of the shadow of death alone. Allow Jesus to accompany you. Do not doubt Him so that you can overcome all the challenges or trials in life. Be at rest, your tomorrow will be alright if you have Him in your life!
It's a wonderful journey you and your children can take together. It's a true story on how a lillie bug loses his way and wonders into a humans house. Please share in these huge lessons we all can do to make a brighter day..
Ever since I could remember, it's been me and my dad, and up until a couple months ago, you can say we've been . . . hiding out, far off, away from the rest of the world, living in secret. This life is the only life I know, and so, I live it to the fullest! Look, I know there's more to life than what I get to see but what am I supposed to do? This is the life my dad created for us, the life I was born into, ya know. I'm not complaining, it's just, I'm fourteen years old, I have no friends, and I have absolutely no idea why we've been living this way. All I know is that my dad is crazy! Wait, don't get me wrong he's a pretty cool dad and all, I mean, he really tries to understand. It's just, he's been 'training' me every day of my life, like, ever since the day I could walk. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure he coached me into walking earlier than I would have, given the chance at a normal childhood Lol. Yet the weird part is, if you asked me though, I have no regrets. I just couldn't tell you what I was training for. Dad just says it's important that I know this kind of stuff . . . Oh! And yeah, in case you were wondering, the idiot jumping through the window without any idea of how it he's going to land . ., is me. You're probably just as lost as I am right now. So let me save everyone a lot of confusion, and start from the beginning . . . well, sort of, well hm, let's start at the acts leading up to my fourteenth birthday. Trust me, you didn't miss much before then. Aight so boom, here we go. My name is Auraluke Rust, and this . . . this is the BrixCity Sagas."
Once an Eagle, always an EagleBecoming an Eagle Scout is an honor that is earned by those Scouts who work hard and aspire to a life of high ideals. An Eagle Scout's sense of duty and values are well known. As an author and an Eagle Scout, Wygant invites all Eagle Scouts, Scouts who are currently on the Trail to Eagle, and non-Scouts to rise to the Eagle Scout Challenge with the help of his new book, IF - Beyond The Challenge. In IF - Beyond The Challenge, he encourage Eagles to fulfill their pledges to The Eagle Scout Challenge including Honor, Loyalty, Courage, Cheerfulness and Service. He offers Kipling's poem "If" as a recipe and guide in this difficult task. By their nature, Eagles tend to find success in much of what they do. However, having impact and making a difference is better than success, and longer lasting. It is his hope that readers will work to lead a life that makes a difference, and always remember, the calling of an Eagle is to fly high, see far and serve.

My intention in writing this book is to help you to enjoy a healthier and less toxic life, and you will be motivated to act on my observations and make the adjustments for a permanent lifestyle change. At the very least, you will have some important additional information to better understand why you might not be as healthy as you would like when you end up eventually ignoring or only minimally following some of the most important guidelines in this book. The following observations are all based on my years working for and studying Dr.Hal Huggins who was the world leading authority in biological dentistry and body chemistry rebalancing.I must also point out that as I don't know anything about you, the reader, I am not making recommendations, these are just my observations from personal experience. The title is referring to my own personal circumstances, I'm not promoting or promising anything, just explaing who I am, when I was diagnosed with the horrendous disease, MS, and how I kicked it's butt out of the temple I call me, Stefan
STEP back in time to the Turn of the Twentieth century world of photographer and artist Glenduen Ladd, born in 1891. Over 70 images offer an intimate view of her remote home at New England's northern tip and capture the peace and optimism of her era. These images, along with related archives, bring to vibrant life the farmers, woodsmen, and tradespeople whose courage and strength of character brought civilization to the deep northern forests of New Hampshire and Vermont. Turn of the Twentieth also provides intriguing footnotes to this region's history-the rescue of a Revolutionary soldier's grave and those of other early settlers in a Canadian border hamlet; the evangelical movement of the 1800s, tales of frontiersmen reminiscent of James Fenimore Cooper's Hawkeye; and a peek at the White Mountains grand hotels."By rediscovering the photography and artwork of Glenduen Ladd and publishing this lovely collection of her work, Susan Zizza has accomplished an important task: she has re-created the life of a small, vibrant North Country community, in all its richness. It's all here: hard work on the farm and in the woods, the busy life of the village, family celebrations, church history, even the Gibson Girl fashions of the day. Through the life of this one artist, Zizza has given us the life of her town and her milieu. It is a remarkable achievement."-Tom Slayton,Editor emeritus, Vermont Life Magazine"Susan Zizza has unearthed buried treasure in the photography of Glenduen Ladd...a window into the most pivotal decades of North Country history. Turn of the Twentieth is both a skillful survey of this work and a moving portrait of the unusual woman behind the lens."-Richard Adams Carey, author ofAgainst the Tide: Fate of the New England Fisherman
