Creating a great safety program for an organization does not happen accidentally. Unfortunately, many safety professionals have attempted to correct a poor safety program by attacking the undesired outcomes. This approach is akin to putting band-aids on an infection. The problem seems to be covered and dealt with, but there has been nothing done to correct the cause of the problem. Creating Symbiotic Safety will help the safety professional understand that safety issues are the outcome of the process. Therefore, if you want to change the results - change the process. By understanding the motivations of executives, management, and employees, a system can be modified to align the goals and motives of each level toward having safety become the natural outcome. This proven method will help you achieve a thriving safety culture within one year! This is Todd C. Smith's and John Brattlof's second book on construction safety. The goal is to equip construction companies with the ability to maintain a safe work environment that contributes positively to the financial needs of the project. Creating Symbiotic Safety describes everything necessary for addressing all the elements of safety on the jobsite.Todd C. Smith entered construction safety in 2005 after serving in the 82nd Airborne Division's, 313th Military Intelligence Battalion's Training Manager and then a Spanish Language Instructor at the University of Texas-San Antonio and the University of Texas-Austin, where he received the Teaching Excellence Award. Todd spent 15 years as the Safety Director for a commercial painting contractor with 100 employees. Todd has also been on the faculty of the Austin Community College's Building Construction Technology Department, where he has been teaching courses in Construction Safety since 2016. In June of 2021, Todd became the Vice President of Safety and HR for BCS Concrete Structures. He has implemented a monthly job site inspection competition, an emerging leaders program, an extensive safety training incentive program, and a company Safety Rodeo. He is currently serving as the Central Texas Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors Safety Committee Co-Chairman and the Co-Chairman of the ASSP Construction Practice Specialty Practice with co-author John Brattlof. John Brattlof entered the construction safety world in 1993 in the Houston industrial market with a large petrochemical construction firm, S&B Engineers and Constructors, Inc. In his role as Health and Safety Coordinator, John was a part of many large industrial projects throughout Texas. His primary roles included project safety management, employee training, and health monitoring program development and implementation. He provided a variety of safety training programs to over 10,000 people during his tenure with S&B. During this time, John also provided OSHA 10 and 30 Hour Construction Outreach Training and the 100 Hour Construction Site Safety Technician Course for the Houston Chapter of ABC. Since relocating to Austin in 2000, John has held the position of Corporate Safety Director for White Construction Company. In this role, John has held the responsibility for all program development and implementation, including the training of employees. In 2001, he successfully negotiated the first ABC / OSHA Partnership in Texas (still active today). With ABC, John has been able to work with the co-presenter, Todd Smith, to develop and teach the Construction Leadership Development Program. Todd and John also formed the Central Texas Chapter of ASSP's Construction Practice Specialty Group in 2017. They garnered participation from the OSHA Area Director to join as co-sponsors on the inaugural Central Texas Construction Safety Summit.

Five minutes is not a long time, especially if your life depends on something happening. With a tenuous grip on life, the doctor assured Jack that if he could stay awake for five more minutes, he would live. As an Army infantryman, Jack Zimmerman stepped on an IED while on patrol. He survived, but he was not the same. He went from a healthy young man with a bright future to a man with no legs and severely damaged arms. "Five Minutes: 300 Seconds That Changed My Life" is the account of how Jack rebuilt his life. He knew, waking up in an Army hospital in San Antonio several days later, that everything was going to be much different than what he anticipated. With a commitment to define and shape his life into the best new version possible, he built on the attitudes and actions that reveal wisdom far beyond what you would expect from such a young age. The principles and truths that allowed Jack to rebuild his life are described with stunning clarity, and the good news is that they apply to everyone, not just those wounded in combat. You will appreciate the sacrifice made by this soldier. You will find yourself in his struggles. You will discover the ability within yourself to turn yourself into the best version of you possible. Friend and family provided one of the greatest resources for Jack. He was wounded two weeks after getting engaged, and his future wife was with him every day in the hospital, through all the rehab, and now as a supportive wife. A bonus is a chapter by Megan to provide the wife's perspective.

In the book, "Back to the Basics (of Love)," Zach Lindquist provides a thorough, yet concise, treatment of the many issues that surround love, sex, and dating. The book is more than a "how to" for finding the right person to marry. It is a guide to lead the married couple to experience the most fulfilling relationship possible."Back to the Basics (of Love)" combines scripture, psychology, and physiology to address the culture standards that have led to the failure in many marriages. You will discover insights into how God's Word addresses many of today's issues and problems in positive ways. This is not a book of "don't do these things." It is a book that explains how God created humans to relate to one another in a manner that brings joy and satisfaction. If you're looking for a partner to spend your life with, this book is for you. Even if you're married, there is a wealth of information that can help you gain the most of your current relationship. It's never too late to get in on God's plan.Dating consumes a lot of time and more often than not, ends in heartbreak for everyone involved. Many are caught up constantly looking on their phone apps for someone better or more options, instead of developing a good relationship with one person. "Back to the Basics (of Love)" offers a better approach, complete with guidance for making it possible. This book will show you that there is a better way. After spending four years at university studying human physiology and exercise science, Zach Lindquist considers himself mostly self-educated, believing that one should never stop learning and seeking answers to life's most significant questions. His regular areas of study consist of theology, Christian apologetics, history, and philosophy. This is all in addition to having made a life-long commitment to never stop studying his beautiful wife, with whom he resides in Texas. Seeing how the exclusion of faith from the average individual's everyday life and decisions has negatively impacted the culture, he took up writing in the hopes that God could use him in some small way toward immersing hearts in Christ and returning God to our daily considerations.

Carl and Francis had a beautiful life together as friends and spouses for nearly 50 years before she was diagnosed with a serious illness. "Life Without Fu" describes their wonderful life and is a tribute his beloved "Fu," a nickname that stuck with her. Carl also details his grief as he stood by her side as the illness gradually took her away.Carl writes as if he knows what he's talking about, because he does. For decades as a pastor, he has seen grief up close, but he has never lived it as painfully and intimately as he now has. His own experience is the source of this book. He writes with deep faith and disarming honesty-two things you don't always find in the same person, but you will find them both in Carl and this book. I trust what he says, and I believe his raw vulnerability, his natural gift with words, and his unrelenting faith in God's goodness will encourage anyone walking a similar road of grief now or in the future. Rev. Lynn Meadows-White, United Methodist MinisterCarl and Frances White's love story spanned almost half a century. To know them as a couple was to know how faithfully they served the Lord Jesus and how they loved each other so well in such a sweet and devoted marriage. In Life Without Fu, Carl does a masterful job of sharing both the delightful back story of their early years together as well as the poignant story of how he faithfully walked with Frances through her courageous battle with cancer. Carl's sense of humor coupled with his ability to tell the story with such passion and detail evokes both laughter and tears. To God be the glory for this encouraging account of how the Lord sustains his children even as He calls them safely home! - Mary K. Mohler, President's Wife, The Southern Baptist Theological SeminaryRecounted with incredible transparency and punctuated with touches of humor, Life Without Fu is the story of one man's journey toward and through the grief prompted by the passing of his beloved wife after nearly fifty years together as "Mutt and Fu." Carl M. White describes with remarkable candor and considerable courage his coming to terms with the inevitable reality of life without his soulmate. This is a source of comfort for anyone who is heartbroken over the loss of a loved one. It is a source of encouragement for anyone struggling with how to take the next step. Most importantly, it is a source of inspiration for anyone who needs a reminder of the power of love and the providence of God. - Dr. Barbara McMillin, President, Blue Mountain College

    av Terrell Douglas

"Walk-On Island" is a true American success story straight from small-town Texas to big time college football. Like the best stories, it starts with a small child, some foggy dreams, and a whole lot of adversity. Terrell Douglas didn't have much chance of succeeding when he was growing up. His family moved when the rent was due, his father struggled with drug addiction demons, and his mother worked from dawn till dusk. Against all odds, she pieced together the staples of life, starting with the most modest of goals; a roof over her family head and enough food for her three children. There was family and the church's grounding, right across the street from his great grandma's house. There was a sliver of light that shone on a young man fighting the same dangerous elements thousands of other youngsters in town succumbed to. He stood firm. When you face adversity, life, and death at a young age, it makes you a victim or tougher. Members of the Douglas family were never victims; they were realists who met their challenges head-on. Terrell never did put up with things that went wrong; he didn't endure them. He beat them, no matter what it took. Along with the church, school provided Terrell a chance to excel and dream. He even thought that he might just become the first person in his family to graduate from college, but then again, where would the money for that come from? Stability came to him in high school. Grades, a steady girl, and coaches who listened, inspired, and passed on the fire needed to excel in football if someone had the strength to block-out what Texas' streets offered. A scholarship would solve so many problems, but getting one was tough, and the odds were low. The only challenge would be somehow getting to college on a part-time drummer's pay and an even longer shot of making a football team as a walk-on-player - so few chances, and so unlikely. It might take a miracle.

Every year in the Texas Legislature, the first bill brought up for consideration is one to secede from the Union. It has always been ceremonial. However, on March 1, 2022, Texas State Senator John Lucas IV, changes all of that with these words: "When the President, Supreme Court and Congress took office they took one oath - that oath was not to devalue our currency by taking us off of the gold standard. It was not to invade our privacy by allowing the NSA to read our emails. It was not to go to war with nations that were not a threat to us. That oath was to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. They have broken that oath. Therefore today, we, the sovereign people of the state of Texas, declare ourselves a free and independent nation." The story begins almost 30 years ago at the federal government's siege in Waco, TX against David Koresh and his Branch Davidians. Dylan Thomas and Carson Bradley are among three Navy Seals covertly called in to neutralize the situation. It goes tragically wrong as one of the Seals dies and Carson barely survives with severe burns throughout his body and a burning resentment towards the federal government. Fast forwarding to today, Carson and Dylan devise a plan to ignite the fight for Texas' independence. They go to John Lucas, IV, a complex Texas State Senator, rancher, and family man who has always opposed abortion. Even more so since his once wayward, sister, Sarah had one while in college. He agrees to push the bill and guide its successful passage. It culminates with a standoff in Houston, TX to close the nation's largest Planned Parenthood facility. The President sends in the Marines to halt the closure and the battle lines are drawn! What starts out as a battle over abortion explodes into a fight for Independence!

    av John Mark Caton
    125,-

On August 1, 2007, Pastor John Mark Caton was heading home from work when he noticed multiple missed messages from his brother, James. He quickly sensed a looming problem as he returned the call. This would be the “Last Call” he would ever have with his brother, who took his life early the next morning. In the following years, John Mark walked through a valley of loss filled with questions that surround losing a loved one to suicide. The answers to these questions were not discovered in seminary theology classes or seminars but learned through personally walking this struggle and desperately leaning on Scripture for guidance. Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States; few families escape losing a loved one in this manner. The questions addressed in Last Call- Suicide: An Unfinished Life are the same questions that torment everyone who has experienced such a loss. The confusion and anger that follow a suicide when a loved one chooses to end his/her own life are shared by all who walk this journey. Writing with the heart of a pastor, John Mark offers a path to healing.

A lifetime of playing golf has taught Stephen Ables a great deal about life. The game can be challenging, exciting, infuriating, uplifting, discouraging, and a source of joy-just like life. Gathering the lessons from golf, Stephen has written daily thoughts to carry with you in your golf bag or your briefcase. These devotionals will continually draw your attention to the important things around you and help you see past the obstacles and sand traps along the way.Golfer and sports commentator Peter Jacobsen explained, "One of the most fascinating things about golf is how it reflects the cycle of life. This book is a collection of thoughts to help you do just that, not only on the green grass of your local course but also in the everyday events of your life."Teeing it Up" refers to placing the ball on a wooden or plastic tee at the beginning of each hole to make the ball easier to hit.
