Imagine yourself so broken as a person that death no longer means the final end of life, but rather a merciful reprieve, the final option that appears as the only way out of a lifetime of pain, isolation, and loneliness. And then imagine you fail in your attempt to take that exit.Dr. David Keating, genius geneticist and biochemist has done just that - but upon his return to the conscious world he considers another alternative: Fixing himself through the sciences he has pioneered throughout his life. But in performing his radical self-experimentation, Keating has done far more than just repair his tragic afflictions; he has both cast himself into a netherworld while unlocking what could very well be the next stage of human evolution - THE ASCENDANT.
Silver Hill, Nevada - 1874The 1870's offered a peaceful, simple, life after the strife of the Civil War. Its mine promised steady work. Abigail and Martin Beckett's parents owned and ran the mine, often away for days at a time, leaving the twins to... find their own fun. Tales of strange creatures, eerie cries, men and women gone missing in a blink... Folktales flow like whiskey amongst the miners. When curiosity gets the better of Abigail, she ropes her brother into an expedition, finding far more than they bargained for. With their parents and miners acting strangely and unseen influence beginning to take hold of her faculties, Abigail reaches out to her correspondence course professors for aid. Even when they arrive, though, these wise men can hardly believe what has become of the town and its people. Amid fires and armies of the undead and other monsters, how will they survive, let alone save their parents or the town?

After its raucous and playful, shocking and controversial, and wildly entertaining first two issues, DOUBLE FEATURE magazine returns with its double-sized annual issue: "A Night at the Grand Guignol"...Welcome to Le Theatre du Grand Guignol! Our reputation proceeds us as the foremost purveyors and portrayers of the bizarre, the mad, the violent and twisted - suffice to say none that attend will return home...unsatisfied, shall we say. Nine tales, from nine authors await behind these doors - stories of revenge, of greed, and of denial. But just in case you might think you may uncover some deeper truth upon our stage, think again. We are to shock you, to terrify you with acts so vile, so fantastically savage, you may wonder if our scribes haven't themselves fallen victim to their own more baser drives. Our tales tonight include a garden party of a different sort, a diner where the evils of Americana and monstrous legends of old Europe meet to do battle for their lives...and another slice of pie, and a destitute man learns that something never comes for nothing, and when its time to give back it's too late to escape his darker fate. Featuring the all-star collection of authors Michael Strong, Melody Alice, w.p. Quigley, S.N. Humphreys, John A. McColley, and Lucienne LeBeau alongside talented first-timers DS Vernon, Madi Quinn, and Maggie Moreau - "The Troupe" deliver nine unflinching and gory visions into the darkest regions of the human psyche.CONTENT WARNING: A NIGHT at the GRAND GUIGNOL contains frank, graphic scenes and depictions of everything that could have a content warning attached - as was the tradition of that early 20th century French cultural phenomenon. Reader discretion is advised. As well as potentially twice-weekly therapist sessions after finishing.
