Covers the physical, biological and chemical basics, including microbial metabolism, wastewater characteristics, and wastewater treatment processes. The book also includes information on membrane technology, micropollutants' removal, activated sludge processes, membrane bioreactors and the evaluation and selection of different aeration systems.
Businesses and corporate firms run significantly on the manner in which communication in them happen. They have a high degree of dependency on these communications to go well. This book makes the readers aware of the various kinds of communication abilities that are needed in the business and administrative world.
Offers fresh insights into new challenges in terms of efficiency and quality improvement, networking, and logistics in the globalized world. The book also addresses the current developments in the operational and financial system of private enterprises.
Provides an introduction to the hospitality industry. The book discusses travel and tourism, the operational development of the hotel and lodging industry, the food service industry, and the role of technology in hospitality.
Provides an introduction to earth systems and the environment. The book provides insights into the global changes that are taking place in the environment, concepts related to environmental science and technology, and environmental management.
Provides readers with a global perspective on small and medium enterprises, and goes on to explain strategic management. The book outlines the various leadership and management skills that are used in the SMEs. Also discussed is human resource management in SMEs, and the use of technology to improve performance.
Examines various aspects of hotel planning and development, including an extensive overview of necessary planning and development in hotels. The book includes definitions of hotel design, development, and market analysis.
Examines various aspects of climate change, including an extensive historical overview of climate change and water resources and related issues. Coverage in the book includes the impacts of climate changes and water scarcity, water resources management, and climate change and rainfall variability.
Examines various dimensions of seismology, and earthquake engineering. Coverage includes the meaning of seismology, a description of earthquakes, and various structural engineering tools and applications required to deal with earthquakes.
Examines various crimes that happen against women and children, including an extensive overview of types of crime and related issues. The book includes definitions of violence, domestic violence and abuse of children.
Water resources and services are integrated measures of social systems that range beyond the technical world and the IWRM requires a balance between competing views of social and political issues. This volume focuses on increased awareness of the human dimension, the role of women, environmental protection, sustainability and food security aspects in achieving sustainable water management.
Water is a key driver of economic and social development while it also has a basic function in maintaining the integrity of the natural environment. Presenting a rationale for Integrated Water Resources Management; this volume brings together both the different environmental problems that affect the very different ecosystems and the main methodologies able to face the problem of IWM.
Focuses on how microbial ecology contributes to the management, restoration and sustainability of the biosphere. Discussing current microbial ecology and environmental microbiology, this book reviews the role of microbial communities in ecosystem services, with examples from both natural and managed ecosystems.
Seeds are fundamental to agriculture. They are the starting point for the production of most crops and delivery system for advanced genetics. Seeds constitute 70% of our food and recent additional uses of seeds as stored energy has increased both seed and commodity prices worldwide. This book discusses the different principles governing seed science and technology.
Explores the possibilities for effective and sustainable fisheries management across the globe. Fisheries management draws on fisheries science in order to find ways to protect fishery resources so sustainable exploitation is possible.
Traditionally biological studies examined individual systems in detail, and compared them with a few that were related. In bioinformatics, we can now conduct global analyses of all the available data with the aim of uncovering common principles that apply across many systems and highlight novel feature.
Offers a thorough review of business analytics for banking. It covers topics such as a bank's customer analytics, fraud detection and analytics, risk analytics, and various banking business analytics case studies drawn from the experience in different countries.
Billions of spots of tiny genetic code comprise the human genome. It was DNA sequencing technology that had revolutionized genomic research by decoding the valuable genetic information by giving the picture of an exact order of occurrence of nucleotides in a DNA. The inception of first-generation sequencing method, also called Sanger sequencing took place in 1975. The first major breakthrough of first-generation sequencing comes, when the 13 year log Human Genome Project (HGP) was completed in 2003 at a cost $3 million. With ever increasing demands of researchers and clinicians, complex genomic research require a depth of information which is however beyond the capacity of traditional DNA sequencing technologies. These research questions gaps are very well addressed by Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has filled that gap of cheaper as well as faster sequencing technology. It is just a decade old technology, but it has popularize the next-generation sequencing to high-throughput sequencing hat allow millions to trillions of observations to be made in parallel during a single instrument run. Since the introduction of these technologies, the number of applications and methods that influence the power of genome-scale sequencing has increased exponentially. Although in genome research NGS has mostly superseded conventional Sanger sequencing, it has not yet translated into routine clinical practice. The following chapter will highlight the concepts, technologies, and methods of next-generation sequencing to illustrate the breadth and depth of the applications and research areas that are driving progress in genomics.
