This text looks at sediment transport, two-phase flow and loose boundary hydraulics which are some of the names used to identify problems of interaction between fluid flow (water or air) and its boundaries that may be non-cohesive (alluvial).
Summarizing tracing techniques in geohydrology, this book contains chapters written by specialists in the fields of geology, hydrology, chemistry, virology, engineering and isotopes. The accompanying CD aids the analysis of tracing test data.
The problem of reservoir eutrophication and resulting increase of algal activity is common for seven Dutch waterworks. In this context, the text investigates dissolved air flotation (DAF) as an alternative for algae removal.
Observational and numerical modelling studies of the hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and light extinction were undertaken in the marine environment around Cape Bolinao in the Lingayen Gulf (NW Philippines). This text reports on the results.
Deals with studies related to modelling and/or field investigation of flexible sluiceway, spliced piles, levee in the Po Delta, Italy, geogrid reinforcements and mechanically stabilized earth in various kinds of soft and compressible soils.
Providing an assessment of the state of knowledge on the Tasman Sea Basin, this text covers topics including the geological and geophysical aspects of Gondwana break-up, paleooceanography, oxygen-isotope records, distribution patterns and more.
This volume covers topics involving large plastic deformation of metallic materials. These proceedings offer an overview of the synergism achieved by combining microstructural characterization and understanding, and mechanical modelling.
Presents the Proceedings of the 12th EARSel Symposium, held in Eger, Hungary, 8-11 September 1992. The text includes studies of environmental problems in Central and Eastern Europe, urban studies, and water management.
Comprises the proceedings of a conference on geotechnical waste management and contamination. Coverage ranges from remediation of contaminated sites to design and management of landfills.
This reference work on the flora of Ceylon describes every plant family, including: araliaceae; caricacae; dilleniaceae; fabaceae; loganiaceae; oleaceae; plataginaceae; portulacaceae; rhamnaceae; theaceae; tiliaceae; and violoaceae.
This text deals with the estimation, prediction and improvement of the durability of building structures and constructions from composite materials with inorganic, organic and mixed binders.
This is a translation of "Fazovie Prevrazheniya i Petrogenez". Earthquakes, tectonic movements and magmatic activities are considered as different manifestations of the same physico-mechanical process.
Geophysics is seen as a very useful exploration tool and has assisted in the development of such methods as gravimetry, electromagnetics and seismic reflection. This handbook is presented as an encyclopaedia, comprising definitions and formulae.
Containing 13 papers and two short communications, this volume considers paleoecology. The areas of investigation are located in the north African arid belt between the Atlantic coast in the west and the Red Sea in the east.
This text includes coverage of the following topics: hydrodynamic principles of the study of groundwater movement; physical principles of study of groundwater movement; and hydrodynamic principles of groundwater flow on the hydro geological systems.
Implementation of the advances in hydrogeology and engineering geology reflected in this book makes possible the assessment of rock properties and planning of mining activities, together with the forecast of stratum behaviour upon construction.
Considers the history of the world of crustacea. Topics covered include the beginning of Portugese carcinology; the development of brachyuran crab tascononry in the Neotropics (1535-1937); reflections on crab research in North America since 1758; and carcinology in classical Japanese works.
The 18th Symposium of the International Association for Vehicle System Dynamics was held at Kanagawa Institute of Technology, Atsugi, Kanagawa, Japan. The symposium was hosted by KAIT as one of the memorial events of the 40th anniversary of KAIT. Though overwhelming numbers of high quality papers were applied in response to the call for papers for the presentation at the symposium, the Scientific Committee accepted 89 papers for the oral presentation and 38 for the poster presentation. Finally, 82 papers were presented at the oral sessions and 29 papers at the poster sessions in the symposium. There were five States-of-the-Arts papers presented at the plenary sessions in the symposium.
Part of a series on the flora of tropical East Africa, this work considers Proteaceae. It should be a useful reference for all concerned with the identification and utilization of plants in eastern Africa.
This volume focuses on the family Euphorbiaceae. They are well defined tribe which includes ten other small genera of tropical and sub-tropical regions. Euphorbia are annual, biennial or perennial herbs, shrubs or trees, sometimes succulent and unarmed or spiny, with a milky usually caustic latex.
Focuses on the relationships and interactions between palaeobiogeography, biogeography, dispersal, vicariance, migrations and evolution of organisms in the South East Asia - Australasian region. This book describes the links between geological evolution and biological migrations and evolution in the region.
This collection of papers covers a wide range of relevant issues and aspects of slope stability engineering from both practical and scientific points of view.
This book provides an accessible taxonomic base for acanthaceae; rubiaceae; and sapindaceae of Sri Lankan vegetation. It forms a significant part of the vascular flora of the island.
Visitors to these islands in search of sun and sea are often surprised by theglorious wild flowers, abundant particularly in the spring and late autumn
