The author, a devout golfing duffer, shares some of the pain (and occasional glory) he has experienced in 40-something years of playing in the rough while seeking the ever-elusive fairway. The book recounts golf-related adventures, describes some often-eccentric friends and recounts experiences with a few celebrities. There also are occasional ruminations on such momentous matters as escalating golf purses and the obscure and controversial origins of golf. The book is a golf-centered memoir that tracks the humorous side of where the author has been and what he's done on the golf course and, once in a while, between rounds.
