This book offers a systematic, theory-based, and empirically grounded introduction to the political system of Germany. Compared to other textbooks on government and politics in Germany, it has two particular benefits. First, it analyzes the individual dimensions of the German political system from a uniform theoretical perspective based on the well-known distinction between majoritarian and consensus democracy. Second, it particularly explains how political decision-making in the multi-level system takes place, including the local, state, federal as well as EU levels. This way, the book provides a comprehensive, detailed, and clear picture of how German democracy is organized and how it works.

Dieser Band sammelt eine Auswahl der poetologischen Reflexionen des Essayisten und Literaten Wolfgang Schröder.Samuel Beckett - Ingeborg Bachmann - Ulrich Horstmann - die verschiedensten Werke, Schriftsteller und Aspekte des Literaturbetriebs werden durchleuchtet und einer unterhaltsamen Analyse unterzogen. Das verbindende Element bildet dabei stets Schröders Fokus auf Fragen einer "skeptischen Poetik".Er thematisiert Herausforderungen wie die Vereinbarung von bürgerlichem Beruf mit der Berufung zum Dichter, vor die der Schreibdrang einen Autor stellt. Auch das Phänomen einer "antiliterarischen Haltung" in der Literatur ist ein Thema: Sie zeigt sich im Aufbegehren gegen scheinbar Vertrautes ebenso wie im Aufstand des Dichters gegen das eigene Werk, der schlimmstenfalls in der Vernichtung durch permanente Korrektur oder sogar physische Zerstörung (z.B. durch Verbrennen) gipfeln kann.Ein Schwerpunkt liegt in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk Samuel Becketts, dessen Stück "Das letzte Band" mit Blick auf intertextuelle und intermediale Bezüge untersucht wird. Der Essay "Ein Stück Literaturgeschichte des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts" schildert einen Besuch Becketts in Bielefeld im Jahr 1961.
