Wilhelm Windelband (1848 - 1915), Philosoph, Vertreter der so genannten Wertphilosophie und Begründer der "Badischen Schule" des Neukantianismus, in seinen Forschungen bemüht, die Abgrenzung von Naturwissenschaften und Kulturwissenschaften herauszuarbeiten, will mit seiner Philosophiegeschichte "die Gesamtheit der philosophischen Probleme und der Richtungen ihrer Lösungsversuche aus einem einheitlichen Grundgedanken entwickeln: sie sieht ihre Aufgabe lediglich in der Anregung zu lebendigem Mitdenken der großen Rätsel des Lebens. Aber sie will auch nicht als Einführung in ein besonderes System der Philosophie gelten, sondern den weitesten Blick auf alle Möglichkeiten der gedanklichen Entscheidung eröffnen."
