Deep down in my subconscious, I knew that I'd been hiding my 'affliction' in the isolation of the outback. And there would come the day when I would eventually have to leave Waaree-to find my own kind-in the deaf and mute world of the big cities. It was something I'd been putting off for years.I loved the bush, the outback, working on a cattle station and the thought of trying to make my unskilled way in a city, was so alien to me, that I never had the courage to make the break and leave. Soon I would have no choice. My voice is my hands and I needed to be able to talk to people, to tell them what I am saying and feeling.
