What is required to renew and articulate public spaces? The need for, and demands of, public spaces are highly specific to the local spatial and social conditions under which people live. Action at neighborhood level is crucial, and must involve interacting and co-creating with residents to discover their needs. At the start of the pandemic, superwien was commissioned to develop innovative designs for urban public spaces in three different cities: Dhaka (Bangladesh), Maputo (Mozambique), and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). The main objective of this applied research was to strengthen the capacity of local governments to undertake participatory urban design processes. This book calls upon architects and urbanists to develop place-based solutions in challenging circumstances.

Today's cities are growing rapidly, creating heterogeneous urban fabrics that cross administrative and political borders. To meet the challenges of our time, a new cross-sectoral, multi-level and people-centered planning apporach is needed. Metropolitan planning is therefore essential to contemporary planning practice and culture and must take into account the potential of both urban and rural spaces. This publication introduces the new discipline of metropolitan design by sharing innovative and international knowledge of interconnected mobility, balanced growth, resilient landscapes and integrated programming of metropolitan regions. Through collaboration and active participation, MetroLab provides tools to develop future-proof and highly liveable city regions.

Ce volume regroupe 24 études en français et en allemand qui traitent de la naissance et du développement du théâtre national allemand au cours du XVIII siècle. Publiées à l¿origine dans des revues ou des ouvrages collectifs, elles deviennent aujourd¿hui pour la première fois aisément accessibles au lecteur sous une forme révisée. La première partie est centrée sur des questions d¿histoire théâtrale. Elle présente d¿abord le sens et l¿enjeu de la réforme de Gottsched, puis traite de la recherche d¿un nouveau public, de la création de la critique théâtrale, de la relation entre Eglise et théâtre, comédiens et spectateurs. La seconde examine plus particulièrement la relation entre l¿aire culturelle française et allemande dans le domaine de la théorie dramatique et de l¿art de l¿acteur ainsi que l¿effet de la guerre de Sept Ans sur la production dramatique. La troisième partie analyse un certain nombre d¿oeuvres représentatives de la période qui va de Lessing à Schiller et à Goethe qui ont jeté les bases du premier répertoire littérairement exigeant du théâtre professionnel de langue allemande nouvellement créé. Vorliegender Band enthält 24 Untersuchungen in französischer und deutscher Sprache, die von der Entstehung und der Entwicklung des deutschen Nationaltheaters im 18. Jahrhundert handeln. Sie wurden ursprünglich in verschiedenen Zeitschriften oder Sammelbänden publiziert und sind heute zum ersten Mal dem Leser in überarbeiteter Form zugänglich. Der erste Teil ist theatergeschichtlich orientiert. Er erhellt zunächst Sinn und Anliegen von Gottscheds Theaterreform. Behandelt werden auch die Suche nach einem neuen Publikum, das Entstehen der Theaterkritik, das Verhältnis zwischen Kirche und Theater, sowie zwischen Schauspielern und Zuschauern. Der zweite Teil behandelt insbesondere die Beziehungen zwischen dem französischen und dem deutschen Kulturraum auf dem Gebiet der Dramentheorie und der Schauspielkunst und untersucht die Wirkung des Siebenjährigen Kriegs auf die Dramenproduktion. Im dritten Teil werden repräsentative dramatische Werke aus der Zeit von Lessing bis zu Schiller und Goethe interpretiert, die die Grundlage für das erste literarisch anspruchsvolle Repertoire des neugegründeten deutschsprachigen Berufstheaters schufen.
