In response, the author provides a brief history of the Jesuits and elaborates on the potential dangers posed by the organization. This 1803 work outlined the background to, and conduct of, the Second Maroon War of 1795-1796 between the British and settlements of runaway slaves in Jamaica. Confronting guerilla tactics by the rebels, General Walpole used fierce bloodhounds to force their surrender, and many were captured and deported.
