In the book, A Pipe Hitter's Guide to the Civilian Irregular Defense Corps, I wrote a chapter entitled, "The Shotgun Militia". During the years since that particular book was published, we have received several inquiries regarding shotguns and their use in personal combat. Numerous readers have expressed the desire for more detailed information.Well, I am nothing if not a people pleaser. During this text, we will take the original concept of the Shotgun Militia and expound upon it in much greater detail. While many dabblers and or "tactical influencers" might view the shotgun as an amateur's tool, I can assure you, when taken seriously, the combat shotgun is a formidable tool and when wielded with an expert hand, it is a tool of professionals not amateurs.Topics Include: Choices of Fighting ShotgunsChoosing the Right Gauge for FightingUnderstanding Shotgun AmmunitionTraining with the Fighting ShotgunHistory of the Shotgun in the United StatesAnd More!
The practical concept of the Citizen Soldier has a history that dates back well over 400 years. In the United States of America, the Minutemen were the elite members of the local militias and training bands. The Minuteman was better trained and in better physical condition than the average militia member and he kept his guns and gear staged and ready to respond to a threat to his community at a moment's notice.During the book, Nicholas Orr will spend time considering the important history of both the citizen soldiers in the volunteer militias as well as the specifics needed to be a Modern Minuteman. Every citizen of the United States of America needs to read this book.Topics Include: The History of the Citizen SoldierThe Role of the Militia in National DefenseLessons Learned from Recent HistoryMilitias vs. Standing ArmiesTraining for the Modern MinutemanGuns and Gear for the Modern MinutemanAnd More!
When it comes to long range rifle shooting or the art of sniping, it all boils down to the first shot or the "cold shot" as many refer to it. The goal of a trained rifleman is to be able to put a single round on target regardless of the distance or the conditions. In the Marine Corps, they used to sum that up as "One Shot, One Kill". Many years ago, a mentor explained to me that "You cannot miss fast enough to catch up in a gunfight. While you are missing, the other guy might not be." Additionally, a separate mentor advised me that "You need to consider every shot you take in training to be a rehearsal for that one critical shot that you will take in combat." These many years later, I cannot find fault in the logic that these men imparted to me.Within the pages of this book we will consider: Long Range MarksmanshipFoundational Marksmanship PrinciplesRifle ChoicesOpticsSilencers, Suppressors, and CansSniper Rifle CartridgesFieldcraftThe SpotterHigh Elevation Precision RifleAnd Much More
A Pipe Hitter's Guide to Small Arms & Weapons discusses in detail some of the most popular and historically significant firearms and weapons used worldwide for over a century.Within this guidebook, the author will consider and examine handguns, rifles, shotguns, and edged weapons that have left their mark on history. The small arms and weapons featured inside can be found not only in the United State of America, but most anywhere in the world. The aim of this book is to give the reader a solid understanding, not just of the mechanics of the weapons but, what it was about them that caused them to be the choices of citizens, law enforcement, and military units around the globe. The author has first hand experience using and employing nearly every small arm discussed within. Some he merely trained with, others he carried in an official capacity and into combat. This is not just an analyst's or writer's perspective of guns and weapons from the outside looking in. No, this text is an end user's outlook on some of the most important arms used by man in the last hundred plus years. This compilation includes The Operator (Book 1), Sin City (Book 2) and Operation Diomedes (Book 3). Here is what readers have had to say about The Operator Series. Book 1 5 Stars "Couldn't Put it Down: Read it in one night. I tried to stop, but could not put it down. Very entertaining read, full of suspense. Clever ending." Bons on Amazon Book 2 5 Stars "I thought all sequels were subpar or predictable... With most series I tend to keep reading to "live up" to the first book and am truly never satisfied. With the Operator being a fantastic read Sin City lived up to it if not exceeded it. Even though I do recommend book 1 this book would have been just as good if I hadn't read the first which in my experience is a rarity. Again fantastic job Mr. Orr, whoever you may be." Michael Gibson on AmazonBook 3 5 Stars "Thumbs Up: Another great read from Nicholas Orr, fast paced and action packed as usual. Read them all of you haven't already." David Bowman on Amazon
