  • - Impacts, Threats, and Sustainable Remediation
    av Mohammad Aneesul Mehmood
    1 140,-

Taking into consideration that the agricultural industry is greatly dependent on pesticide chemicals to deal with the damage caused due to pests, this new volume details the challenges along with the bioremediation and remediation measures, such as the use of beneficial microorganisms, polymeric nanocomposites for nanoremediation, phytoremediation, and more. It looks at pesticide contamination from agricultural activities in a variety of different environs and a selection of sustainable and eco-friendly remediation approaches. It provides a spectrum of concepts, ideas, and knowledge related to the detrimental actions of pesticides on the environment directly and on human beings indirectly and provides insight into sustainable and advanced pesticide remediation technology. It fills a gap in the available literature in this field and will provide valuable for academicians, researchers, agriculturists, and students.

This Book will be a very helpful tool to understand the Blood Lead Levels and its relation with various biochemical activities of Humans in general and children in particular. Widespread use of Pb has caused extensive environmental contamination and health problems in many parts of the world. Lead is a cumulative toxicant that affects multiple body systems, including the neurological, hematological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and renal systems. Acute exposures may cause gastrointestinal disturbances (anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain), hepatic and renal damage, hypertension and neurological effects (malaise, drowsiness, encephalopathy) that may lead to convulsions and death while chronic exposure commonly causes haematological effects, such as anaemia, or neurological disturbances, including headache, irritability, lethargy, convulsions, muscle weakness, ataxia, tremors and paralysis. So with the help of practical case studies, this book is an attempt to understand various effects of BLL in the development, survival and growth of children. For young scientists, this book will be good means to understand the biochemistry of Pb in children and its detrimental effects.

This book highlights the importance of ground water because knowing the groundwater level is important for several reasons, including understanding aquifer levels under static conditions and pumping conditions, determining how the levels interact with local surface water sources, and understanding how surface development has impacted the aquifer. Ground water pollution is more complicated than surface water pollution because the contaminated aquifer is very much difficult to treat and recover as compared to surface water body. This book provides an insight into the effect of change in physico-chemical parameters of water on human health. Dental fluorosis, methamoglobinaemia, Knock-Knee Syndrome are some typical diseases associated with ground water pollution. This book can be a very helpful tool for students and scholars to understand the groundwater dynamics and effect of ground water pollution on human heath described with examples and case studies.

This book is an attempt towards assessing the toxicity of certain pesticides on the survival of two free floating plants. Azolla cristata and Salvinia natans. In today¿s era pesticides and insecticides are ultimately finding their way into the aquatic ecosystems, hence posing a threat to the survival of the various plant and animal species inhabiting these systems. This book shall serve as basic guide to the researchers and students in understanding the toxicity of the widely chemicals on the plant diversity and survival.

This book provides an insight into the application of remote sensing and geographic information system for the management of natural resources in general and water resources in particular. The growing population and unsustainable development has not only increased the demand for water, they are also threat to the available water resources. Water resources are distributed in time and space and their availability may vary from time to time and place to place. So the identification of water resources become an immediate step apart from proper management by augumentating the natural infiltration of natural precipitation into subsurface formation by some suitable methods of recharge. Remote sensing and Geographic Information System are emerging tools for managing and analyzing the spatially distributed informations. ArcInfo and ArcView GIS are the powerful softwares to analyse, visualize and create quality presentations that brings the power of interactive mapping and analysis. In the present book, an attempt has been made to provide a detailed information about the nature and morphometry of Aralamallige watershed in Dodaballapur Taluk of Bangalore rural District Karnataka.

This book provides a detailed information about the importance of lentic water bodies. It highlights the role played by these natural resources in maintaining the ecological balance on the surface of earth. Due to anthropogenic pressure and unsustainable development, these fragile ecosystems have become the dump sites of various toxic pollutants like chemical fertilizer residues, heavy metals, pesticides and other xenobiotic agrochemicals. This book provides a kind of awareness regarding the current status of these urban lakes and recommends some of the important strategies for their management and safeguard. This book also throughs light on the mineral status of agricultural soils in two geographically different districts of Kashmir so as to understand the change in soil quality due to unsustainable agricultural practices. This book is a useful tool for students and scholars to understand the current status of some culturally important water bodies in Himalayan range and their future perspectives.

  • - A Brief Comparasion

The study is done on the basis of primary and secondary surveys and both lakes are urban with different geographical and environmental conditions, as the study and observations suggest that the condition of water and sediments of both lakes has extremely deteriorated from last two decades. Our research, observation, and readings are from only four months due to lack of time and accessibility, as our study and collection of samples are latest. This is from, January and February for Dal Lake, and March and April for Bellandur lake Bangalore. Which are giving the details of water quality of both lakes and the investigations are showing the increasing trend in pollution of both lakes. This study will be beneficial for the respective departments of both lakes whether it is LAWDA (lakes and waterways development authority) Jammu and Kashmir and LDA (lakes development authority) Bangalore Karnataka and for further future researches on both lakes these parameters will give a brief introduction on physico chemical characteristics of both lakes. Due to lack of time and infrastructure our study was limited and little but qualitative in producing information.
