In this volume leading scholars assess the contributions of Max Reinhardt, Leopold Jessner and Harley Granville Barker to European theatre. Their work represents the cultural shift from traditional theatre practices of the 19th century to the rise of Modernism and its means of establishing theatre as an art form in its own right. Uncovering the theories and visions of theatre held by Reinhardt, Jessner and Barker, this volume establishes the contribution and importance of these directors in the development of modern theatre and their significance alongside the better-known names of Stanislavski and Brecht.
Treat Your Employees Like... Dogs?!?! (It's a better idea than you might think... especially if you want to succeed!) Your company is challenged all the time to be the best. To be successful, your employees need to constantly meet-and frequently exceed-the expectations of customers, business partners, and everyone in between. And the best way to get the best from your employees is to treat them like dogs! In "Sit. Stay. It's a system straight from the "dog's" mouth. No bones about it! If you are a pack leader, you'll be able to get the maximum potential from each and every employee each and every time. Even if you are merely the pup of the group, what you'll learn will help you to leap over obstacles and advance your way to the top. The dead are not like you and me. They don't walk, or talk, sweat or laugh, breathe or cry because they are dead, pushing up daisies, no more. The undead are an abomination, a blight on the world, created using dark arts or even worse, forbidden or cursed science. DeadEd is the twice dead. A product of dark arts and cursed science. Surely such a creature should be the ultimate destruction, but he Is not. DeadEd has the body of Frankenstein and the blood of Dracula, and the desire to save humans, not destroy them. He is a badly needed hero in a world gone dark.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Stone had just returned from holiday and immediately found himself involved in a routine missing person inquiry. In truth, his involvement, at least initially, acted as a distraction from an establishment cover-up he'd recently discovered. But, as he got to know more about the missing person, his natural inquisitiveness began to take over.Meanwhile, Tom's personal life was suddenly taking an unexpected path. Mary, his partner, had taken a risk by contacting his son and inviting him over to the UK. Tom hadn't had any contact with Paul since his mum, after their divorce, had emigrated to Australia when Paul was just two years old. Tom hated surprises and so this had simply added to his already raised anxiety levels. He had, however, decided to take a few more days away from work, so that he and Mary could spend time with Paul and his family. It would prove to be a fatal decision.
Michael Patterson takes the reader on a charming illustrated nostalgic jaunt across Europe by sleeper.

This book celebrates the British railway station hotel. It focuses on those hotels built or acquired by the railway companies themselves rather than on the many railway or station hotels built by local entrepreneurs as speculative ventures up and down the country. It traces the success and failure of some of the early railway hotels but at its heart are those, such as Glasgow's Central Hotel, the Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras or the Royal Victoria Hotel in Sheffield, which survived the first century of Britain's railways to become part of the Hotels Executive on the nationalisation of the railways in 1948 and, later, the British Transport Hotels group. Many of those built by the railway companies during the Victorian era have survived and continue to prosper into the twenty-first century. In this book, Michael Patterson uses a wonderful collection of photographs to share with the reader the grand architecture of many of the station hotels, the beauty of their decoration and the vaulting ambition behind their construction.
First published in 1981, Michael Patterson's was the first book in any language to be devoted to the work of Germany's leading theatre director. The rehearsing, performance and reception of the various texts Stein tackled are thoroughly and vividly recreated here from interviews and archives and in the first-hand account of the workings of the Schaubuhne theatre in West Berlin.
